Cleveland Cavs Discussion
The only consideration that Izzo is giving to this is because he figures this will be his last shot at the NBA. Now, the factors that keep him at MSU are the following: his family has deep roots in East Lansing and he's coached there his entire professional career (minus a cup of coffee in Tulsa) at MSU. He's making $3 million a year (and i've heard the money being tossed at him from Cleveland isn't a lot higher than that...in the $4-5m range) so his family is already set for life. He has a team that is coming back that is expected to rival his 2000 national championship team and will likely be a favorite to win it all. He's on the cusp of being a legendary coach if he gets a second title. He's already a hall of famer, he would become a legend. As far as Coach K being untouchable? no one is, but Coach K, Izzo and Roy Williams are probably as close to it as you can come. There isn't a word for how i would feel if Izzo left MSU. Shocked doesn't even come close to describing it.

Pet Peeves!
people that show up 30+ minutes early for a job interview. Really? 10 minutes? fine...you wanted to be here early rather than late...but half an hour? dude, that's just annoying.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
No question that Gilbert wants to do what he needs to in order to keep his superstar (and the hottest commodity in the league). I have just read some stuff about him and taking Ferry out and those reports make it seem that it was at LeBron's behest. I quit following the NBA when my Pistons signed Ben Gordon. I knew the NBA had nothing for me at that point. As far as Izzo not "shooting it down" he never does because he's an honest guy. He tells it like it is and if someone offers him gobs of money that would be impossible to ignore, he'd have to take it. He's not like Calipari and guys like that. I agree that college coaches don't have a high success rate. I think that's another reason Izzo wouldn't take that job.

Cincinnati: Stadium Fund
quick clarification: it's an issue for the County, not the City.

Off Topic
my coworker just laughed her way through a job interview...i mean, how unprofessional is that? Sure, the guy wasn't exactly a home run hitter here, but at least have some respect for the guy. damn.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I wouldn't get too much going on the Tom Izzo front. He passed up a job with the Atlanta Hawks back in 2000 when they had a more stable front office and an owner that didn't live to serve a superstar player who may or may not be around much longer. Sure, Gilbert is an MSU guy, but i doubt that it would be enough for Izzo to leave the school. He's always said that his goal is to win 2 titles at MSU. If he accomplishes that, i could see him moving to the NBA as more likely...but not probable.

2010 World Cup
There was a pretty interesting article in SI about Messi and Maradona and how they really don't relate at all. It also discussed the pressure that is likely on Messi with his underperformance for the national team. I don't know, i think i'd give Argentina more of a chance if they had a different coach entirely...not saying they won't advance, but I'm not sure they really have a chance. Of course, with the injury bug that seems to be flying around, who knows.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
No way was that a bobble. Even if it was bobbled, the ball was secure at least a half a stride before Donald reached base. I doubt that the call will be overturned and this will be used as a catalyst to implement instant replay, unfortunately.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
As a Tigers fan, i'm thrilled that i wasn't watching that game. I almost bought the MLB Extra Innings but if i'd been watching last night i might have killed someone. As it stands, i feel awful for that umpire. He effed up, sure...but it didn't change the outcome of the game and everyone knows it was a perfect game. Gallaraga just pitched the first 28 out perfect game.

when my coworker barges into my cube to tell me something without regard to anything i may be doing...demands that i look something up on the web and then points to it and touches the screen. don't. touch. my. screen.

Shepard Fairey invades Cincinnati
Sure, he's turned it into an industry but it's still a form of expression. I don't particularly care for him, but i don't think silencing the artist (painting over the murals) is the way to go about this. Yeah, i'd prefer these murals to go away somewhat "naturally" either through the elements or other artists or whatever. Just white washing it is really strange and i feel like it almost sends a message that contemporary art isn't welcome here.

Shepard Fairey invades Cincinnati
Another Shepard Fairey mural painted over Really? i mean, these aren't supposed to be permanent murals or anything, but what's with painting over them? That's just stupid. Oh great, another cream colored wall.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
really? Bloods and Crips? I'd like to hear more about this...i'm not so naive as to think that gangs don't exist here, but it really doesn't seem like this city has a lot of gang activity.

Originality in Movies = dead?
I don't think that there's a lack of originality in movies...i think it's mostly that the remakes are the ones that the studios are deciding to really market. There are original movies out there, you just have to look hard for them. Movies are about making money, above all. I like to think of film as an art form, but some of it's good and some of it is bad...i tend not to get too mad if someone has a reprint of Starry Night in their house. I know it's not the original, but that doesn't bother me. There are a lot of remakes going on and some of them i just don't understand...Red Dawn? Robocop? but i'll see them eventually. At least i can always go back and watch the original.

Cleveland: Good place to stay near CSU
Sorry, guys...we had to skip the trip as the old lady got a nasty flu bug that has been going around at work. Being the very nice guy that i am i decided to save the upholstery inside my car (i am going to be trading it in soon) and eat the tickets to the show. I really would like to get up to Cleveland and check it out soon. Maybe take in a game between the Tigers and the hated Tribe.

Pet Peeves!
do you really think knocking a bike over is going to cause damage? it's doubtful that that group would have highly tuned racing bicycles or anything. sometimes the only way to teach a lesson is with a little pain.

Cincinnati Retirement System (CRS)
Okay, i could see that happening, but that is a very specific circumstance and probably doesn't reflect most of the new employees.

Cincinnati Retirement System (CRS)
There's no way that this is true. They wouldn't shrink the base of paying members, not to mention it would be in the article (probably under reasons that it's not doing well).

Pet Peeves!
I know why people die in fires. It's because their smoke detectors decide that the batteries are low and start chirping a warning 10 minutes before their alarms are supposed to go off. People don't want to go through the hassle of going downstairs, getting a freakin' ladder and a 9V battery and coming up to replace it. So, instead they just bash it to **** with a baseball bat. at least, that's my current fantasy.

Cleveland: Good place to stay near CSU
wow...the healthline looks pretty awesome. That does sound better than any cab if we don't feel like walking. Thanks, folks. If any of you are heading to the live SmodCast there on Tuesday maybe we'll see you there.

Detroit: Demolition Watch
Wait...where is this library? That looks an awful lot like the library i went to as a kid, that would crush me if it's gone. I think it was right next to the Alger's Theater on Outer Drive. Edit: after looking on google street view...no, i was thinking about the Jefferson branch which isn't as architecturally beautiful. That's too bad.

Cleveland: Good place to stay near CSU
are cabs plentiful down there?

Cleveland: Good place to stay near CSU
Thanks. I'll check on the Holiday Inn. Unfortunately, I won't be in town long enough to really check it out. The show is Tuesday night and i'll be back in Cincy by Wednesday afternoon. I will come up and check it out again. Especially once the 3C is done.
