  1. This is correct. The authorization vs. appropriation processes can get kind of messy and confusing, especially when they're happening simultaneously.
  2. Here's the Senate/House conferenced authorization bill (which is a pretty darn bad bill, btw...but that's another topic for another thread): http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d112:3:./temp/~bdH1CL:: Here's the THUD Appropriations bill. Search amendments for "Chabot" and you'll find it: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d112:5:./temp/~bd4a7L::|/home/LegislativeData.php| As you can see, the first has been presented to the president for his signature while the second was passed by the House and sent to the Senate.
  3. I am. The amendment is listed as passed under the THUD appropriations, and the conference report for the authorization bill was voted on without amendments to ensure that it mirrored the Senate passed bill. Getting a bit into the legislative weeds, but Chabot's actions haven't done anything just yet, and I doubt they'll ever actually become law. Doesn't mean Sherrod Brown shouldn't hear from us though! In other good news today, I've been told the Enquirer ran my LTE about Chabot's amendment in the paper today (not online though)
  4. Just to be clear, Chabot insterted this amendment into the THUD appropriations bill that passed the House but has yet to pass the Senate or go through conference, not the transportation authorization conference report that passed yesterday and is on its way to the President. These are two distinctly different bills. I'm seeing conflicting reports from people here thinking that this has been passed by both chambers and will be signed into law shortly (if it hasn't been already). That's not true from every report I've read (and the press release on Chabot's website). As others have said, turn your attention to Senator Brown to ensure that this doesn't get into a Senate THUD appropriations bill.
  5. Again-- don't post here often (might be my 2nd post?) but here's the LTE I just submitted to the Enquirer. Doubt it will run, but I thought it was worth sharing: Congressman Steve Chabot took an alarming stand to halt investment in his own district ("US House bars federal money for streetcar" 6/28) by inserting an amendment in an appropriations bill to halt all federal investment in the Cincinnati Streetcar project. Chabot's reverse earmark ensures that the City of Cincinnati cannot, and will not, be considered for important federal dollars that will create jobs, spur economic development, and provide transportation options for the growing number of Cincinnatians who live, work, and visit downtown. The voters of Cincinnati sent Congressman Chabot back to Washington in 2010 based on his campaign promise to focus on "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs." Unfortunately, his amendment does just the opposite. Cincinnatians should hope that Senators Portman and Brown better understand their role as advocates for their constituents and undo Congressman Chabot's reckless decision to grandstand rather than take seriously his responsibilities as our representative.
  6. I almost never post (created this account about...6 years ago?), but I think this has a lot of potential to connect a lot of the larger NBDs together nicely, with some dedicated bike lanes, it would seem really easy to bike from Hyde Park Square to Xavier or to Mt. Lookout Square or over to Pleasent Ridge or Rookwood. Same is true between College Hill and Northside and Northside to Clifton. It has a lot of potential in the center city, but I'm intrigued by its potential within the neighborhoods. The question in those areas is whether or not ridership would be high enough to sustain the infrastructure outside of the CBD, OTR, Uptown areas.
  7. Not sure if this is in the right place. I'm writing a paper comparing and contrasting old and new FOuntain Squares after the renovation in 05-06. Does anyone know where I can get a diagram of what the old square looked like before the renovation? Myfountainsquare.com has the new map, but I wanted to find the old diagram. Thanks for your help!

Is there a reference section somewhere around here to look in or should I try to search it out. (Sorry for being so inquisitive. I'm new to both here and Google Earth and I'm trying to get all my ideas into some sort of visual presentation to show to an adviser when school starts back up).
  9. Hello all. I'm new here and need help finding a resource. I've been brainstorming some mass transportation ideas for the city (literally a page of notes scribbled on a road trip home from vacation.), and I've started to fool around on Google Earth. What I'm trying to do now is map in all of the metro routes, but I realize how tedious and challenging it will be (I'm new to the program and still learning my way. Any tips there would be helpful as well). Does anyone know of a map that already has the routes on it that I can open in Google Earth and overlay on my map or work from? If so, how would I go about doing that. Thanks in advance for all the help.
