  1. Ya that hojo isnt really near anything. I understand the yearnings to renew the building to build a neighborhood potentialy there, but thats so far down the pipeline to even really consider now. All thats there is Quay55, bunch of industrial buildings (that are not of the nice to re-use variety) ,and fox 8 news. Quay55 DID have some plans for townhouses in the vacant field and a market on the ground floor but that hasn't seemed to pan out. To me that indicates not any demand out that far and near nothing.
  2. "Kristosik said he planned to meet with Little Italy merchants Monday, when he would discuss the possibility of multicultural events." Ugh if we get 'other' cultural events in the neighborhood, then it becomes less and less italy

Yeah I vaguely remember driving through Chardon in my teenage years at night seeing Cleveland at night. Is it from Chardon Rd? I can't remember really from where on Charon Rd, maybe its one of the other back roads Mentor Rd, Wilson Mills, Auburn Rd? If I can pin it down I'll get a picture of it at night
  4. Or even money to make the cleveland innerbelt bridge the correct southren alignment...
  5. Skid row is allways adjacent to the CBD. Just getting rid of the over-the-rine one merely moves it from one area to another, with the possibility of making more skid rows.
  6. ^^ Students allready got U-Pass for transit, a quagmire in itself. In 2002, the student body voted to approve the U-Pass by a vote of 473 for and 132 against. Basicaly a fraction of the student population decided to tack on $25 to every full-time student for the few that opt to use it. It was basicaly "forced down" transit, alot of students feel burned by it and don't support the program. Perhaps opinions will change with the brt.
  7. http://www.csuohio.edu/campusmasterplan/pmp.pdf This link actually gives an accurate idea on how Cleveland State plans on managing parking. There seems to be nothing that indicates that the parking deck is used by RTA, other than the transit center underneath. It is part of Cleveland States ongoing plan of elimination of its vast acres of surface lots for structured parking decks. I would say this is a good development for the following reasons. #1 Its an improved east side transit center as compared to what already is used as an east side transit center; currently busses just line up and down the curb along e 21 and e22, this is an actual formal bus interchange spot. #2 Its more than just a parking garage, Cleveland state could have just made a garage, but they also included athletic facilities. #3 The convocation center now has adequate parking facilities to serve it during events. #4 with more Cleveland State structured parking in that area; it makes non-structured Non-Cleveland State parking less viable. Most of the lots near Cleveland State on prospect are used by Cleveland State students. If you take away the need/incentive for students to park there, it opens up the possibility and encourages of re-development of the surface lots for a higher order use. #5 It allows Cleveland State to redevelop its vast surface lots for other uses, new replacement parking must be made before re-development. You can argue till your blue in the face that transit is the way it must be the only way but it’s just not going to happen. Cleveland State is a commuter school, and as such needs a lot of parking, that’s simply the way it is. By design the cities further from Cleveland aren’t well served by transit, but still have people that come to Cleveland State. You got to put them somewhere as the drive to school, and it might as well be done in the best way as possible.
  8. Looks good, not something half assed and half thought out. Nice addtion of some much needed volume and height that prospect is lacking around that area.
  9. Ive used cleveland press archives physically. Some of its not so good condtion. Alot of it is literaly old newspaper clippings, that kinda tears in your hands, and nothing is more nervewracking than tearing old newspaper clippings that are well over 80 years old. Some of its old microfishe that wasnt copied over good originaly so portions of it cant be read. But, if you want tons of nearly useless information on stuff thats where to go.

This link is a reasonable primer for the house styles http://architecture.about.com/library/bl-styles_index.htm , it however lacks in pictures.
  11. The Heart of Cleveland: Public Square in the 20th Centaury, is a good book on this particular subject. Loaded with all sorts of stuff on this subject. Shows proposals, events that occured there, buildings built around there, etc.. Pretty much any book published through cleveland landmark press has alot of stuff for us "urban cleveland fanatics"
  12. ^^ Me too, I like Mueller Building, if I had the money. I'm all about wanting this one, because its 'most affordable' without sacrifice of a lot of space. http://www.muellercondominiums.com/Unit220.html
  13. I say market and densly develop payne ave from the innerbelt to railroad bridge. Much like w25th near the market has been developed.
  14. Hurray for this thread, I have been waiting for I dont know how long to see this one.
  15. It used to be croation, some sloveinian, kinda mishmash of eastern europe countries. I agree with you X, in that it will be clevelands next ethnic hotspot to live in

Anyone got a map where the cameras are at?
  17. I disagree..I like to think of some of the positives It better opens up University Circle, to the west side. Cleveland Clinic and all the others are among the cities largest employers and future growth should be supported as much as possible, since the city seems to be banking on biosicence as the new thing. It remedies brownfields. Opens up that side of town to better industrial development or any type of development. But lets face it the root of the reason for this is because joe westsider, dosent like his commute from westlake to his job in university circle, instead of moving closer to the job.
  18. Where exactly is bridtown? I know its on the eastern end, but no idea of the general boundries
  19. ^^It would be a theroeticaly prime building to convert had that area town been something, rather than alot of nothing. Just like it took so long for Quay55 to develop into anything

I'd say we need to focus on some of the parks we allready have and the neighborhoods that surround them. Cleveland seems to neglect their parks, such examples of the park on chesterand & E12 (crappy design), kirtland park (crappy location), rockefellar park (bad neighborhoods, neglected)That being said I would like to see some parks around the edge of scraton peninsula, a nice thick band near the water probably just about as wide (maybe a bit more like the park near sherwin williams) as the land between scraton rd and the water on the eastern side. I wouldnt want it to be all parks simply because it wount have anyone directly nearby to utilize it and cause $$$ real estate effect

Only reason I dont want it on the parking lot on public square is that I want it to be the big #4 in the skyline someday

IF they were to need a new building, I would rather see the building be built at the site where the "firestone garage" is on E12. I would like to try and keep all that federal stuff as close as possible to eachother. It would also help boost up the avenue district, perhaps encouraging people to live and work on E12
  23. I hate 8, used to drive it to a friends appartment near the Akron Airport. Its kinda like a highway, but not at the same time. I ~think~ the speed is supposed to be around 45-50, but everyone does 70+, and then there are traffic lights along it, and the people driving on it exceede its capacity. Such a mess on that road, I have allmost been rear-ended twice on that road.
  24. Looks very nice around there. Its nitchine nice things like this that the inner ring suburbs and cleveland should capitalize on for new growth
  25. Only problem I see with your plans KJP is how you allways want to run rail down E 17. It is where the coveted E 17/18 parking garge near cleveland state is. It has 3 entrances to it, but ONLY the E 17 one is ever used. As its one of the few garages on campus students will sit with their car in idle waiting to get into the garage most of the afternoon. they go all the way up E 17 to euclid ave and go about 1/2 way to E18 all lined up to get in, a few even lurk down to chester. Also from time to time trucks for playhouse square shows, line up all along the road too. Untll cleveland state does something to remedy that type of activity
