  3. Here's some news. Although this might have been alluded to or mentioned in this thread earlier: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/12/post_542.html
  4. WOW!!!!! Asolutley Awesome!!!!!!
  5. Definitely. However, it seems like wishful thinking since only Columbus, Oh and Austin Texas are in the running.
  6. clvlndr, Me being a native Clevelander, I will always hold Cleveland above everything else. SO...my opinion is of course biased. One thing about the proposed streetcar. The tracks have been in the ground for a year and no streetcar yet. It's only a mile long segment and was pushed through even though many were against it. It is supposed to expand to the east side of Charlotte but there is no funding at all. As far as light rail expansion here is concerned, funding is such that it probably won't happen except for the extension of the Blue line.
  7. Just a little transit-envy I have to admit to. I live in Charlotte and the transit system here is absolutely inadequate for the stature and economic clout this city is supposed to have. There is one train here and it doesn't even run to the airport! CATS (Charlotte Area Transit System), of course, is not a perfect system. Neither is RTA. RTA has it's faults like every transit system does. But to have the transportation options Greater Cleveland has is very impressive. I've ridden the Red Line from the airport to Tower City before and it is so convenient. To have a train that runs from the center city to the airport is quite an asset. Wanted to give a shout out to RTA for operating a system that is the envy, at least in my humble opinion, of many other transits systems around!
  8. Wow! Dispels all the negative images from heresay! Gorgeous downtown!
  9. Same problem here too!
  10. Clevelover replied to a post in a topic in City Photos - Ohio
Nice ones! Now if the Browns would only play well enough to pack the place out!
  11. I'll definitely pay that price to go!
  12. Very cool! Thanks for the link!
  13. MTS has a very valid point about Burke. It simply cannot be closed until Hopkins gets another runway. it's actually an asset to have Burke so close to downtown.
  14. As always, awesome shots!
  15. I like this. This plan, unlike the previous plans I believe, has a clear direction. I especially like the Burke development area with the capability of floating business barges and campus-like office developments. Excellent way to keep businesses in the city!
  16. Yeah, sounds like a positive development for CLE?
  17. No pictures of the gorgeous Stanley Theater? that is a gem of a building that has been expertly restored to its former glory.
  18. I was working across the East River in Brooklyn Heights with a direct view of Lower Manhattan when the planes struck the WTC. I clearly remember how beautiful a day it was - clear, warm , and little breeze. For years after that day, I never liked similar late summer days. Seeing the tons of office paper, memos, etc flying out of the WTC after the planes struck was just a tragic symbol of the people and lives working in the twin towers that morning. Something else I try hard not to remember is seeing dark objects falling down the side of the towers. A look through binoculars revealed those objects were people. I also remember the electrical fire smoke emanating from the WTC for days if not weeks after. I would run the Brooklyn bridge early in the morning every other day and that smell was sickening. Hard to believe it's been 10yrs. It seems like just yesterday in so many ways.
  19. Nice article on the greening of RTA! http://www.gcbl.org/blog/marc-lefkowitz/rta-embraces-sustainability-challenge-sets-aggressive-targets
  20. Used to go to the beach here in Long Beach quite a bit. Awesome town with incredible homes!
  21. Let me add to Hts121 comments. Being a Charlotte resident, for now, there is nothing in Charlotte even remotely similar to Cleveland's Little Italy. They have a nascent artsy/trendy area called NoDa that is ok. Charlotte has no real area, even downtown that is vibrant like East 4th or West 6th. There is the Epicenter, which is a brand new mixed use development on the corner of a major intersection in downtown (or as it's called down here, 'uptown Charlotte'). Don't get me wrong, Charlotte is a 'nice' city. But there really is no comparison (at least in my mind) of the two downtowns or cultural neighborhood offerings.
  22. Michelle, want to congratulate you on such a positive article. Articles like yours actually get me believing in the PD again!
  23. Ton of good information about OC. Very positive!
  24. Man, your pictures of Astoria bring back great memories of the 6 or so years I spent in Glendale and Forest Hills. Queens is such a great Borough! Thanks for the pics!
  25. MD88PILOT, I live in Charlotte. Where in the world do you shop for food when you're in town? The Wal-MArts I have been to here in Charlotte are less than desirable and the produce is disgusting. My family lives in Cleveland and when I come home and go to the store with them, I see similar if not lower prices than Charlotte.
