Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Wanted to say how much I appreciate and envy the great transit system Cleveland has. As you all have heard me state, I live in Charlotte, for now. I was born and raised I Cleveland though. Charlotte's transit system is very deficient. They have one light rail line that opened about three years ago. Nice train, nice development along the transit line. But that's all the rail they have. Nothing to the airport. Nothing running around their downtown. Charlotte does have a bus system but it has faced cutbacks due to funding. GCRTA may not be the best transit system in the country, right now. Of course it does have it's flaws. But the fact the Greater Cleveland has accessible rail and BRT is such an asset. You don't realize how nice that is until you leave and come to a city like Charlotte. I, for one, am very envious of the transit system Greater Cleveland has. I appreciate the work RTA does and I hope RTA continues to develop rapid/light rail transportation options in the future. Thanks GCRTA!!

Cleveland in National News
^^Cliches are loved by writers and the media. I don't like 'em, but when I've faced tight deadlines, they come in handy. I understand that but I really don't think you've used cliches that degrade Cleveland or put it in a bad light. I don't know if the woman who I referred to in my comments is from Cleveland or not but that whole negative bent about Cleveland needs to be changed. It does start at home, that is, the attitude of those who live in Cleveland needs to change. Once OUR self-image changes then possibly outsiders will look at us differently. That attitude change, admittedly, will take effort and time.

Cleveland in National News
Frankly, tired of the 'mistake on the Lake' usage. That term is way outdated. I guess I'm tired (and probably very sensitive about it too!!) of people throwing around old, negative terms in reference to Cleveland. This seems to be the thing to do when referring to Cleveland.

Cleveland in National News
Didn't know which thread to put this in but it is national news, sort of. It's a very nicely done piece about Cleveland. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/Clevelands-Signs-of-Renewal.html?c=y&page=1

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
I'm not sure if the unemployment rate for the Cleveland Metro area has gone up from 8.5% I think it has but it is not at 11.1%.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
^^When I tell them unemployment is at 8.5% (less than Seattle, Denver, Cincinnati, etc.) and that we are entering 2011 with a balanced budget and no major layoffs or tax increases, they are dumbfounded. Just wanted to add to this. Everyone talks about how well Charlotte is doing. It's economy is used as a model to aspire to and people seem to be flocking here because of the supposed good times. Well, new figures I just saw yesterday show that the Charlotte Metro areas unemployment rate is 11.1% That is above the North Carolina state rate and much higher than the Cleveland metro area. So, Cleveland isn't such a bad place after all, is it? Rank that, Forbes!

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
Ok, I am THE world's biggest Cleveland fan there is! Believe me, it's true! Just ask my friends how obnoxious I am about Cleveland. Anyway, with that being the case, I really don't have a problem with the Kimpton Exec's comments. We still may get a hotel and a 3.5 star one at that! It's a positive move overall and one that will benefit downtown.

Cleveland: 2012 Democratic National Convention?
Politics dictates unfortunately. As a current resident of Charlotte I know first hand it has nothing on Cleveland. Don't get me wrong. Charlotte is a nice city. I'm not trashing it. But Charlotte wishes it had the assets Cleveland does. Queen City is just a label due to the fact of the Queen she's named after. It is the Queen of nothing else. Cygnus, I'd like to know what the 'as usual' is you're referring to.
