  1. ...and don't tell anyone--but you could take all "3-C" MSA's, add them together, and still have room for those of Dayton, Toledo, and Akron in making up the huge population of Istanbul. I would definitely say that, on the world's stage of megacities, Istanbul is "a contender..."
  2. Talk about a mega-city and a crossroads-of-the-world...I think we just looked at one! Thanks for the many photos of Istanbul not usually seen in tourist brochures.

Nice shots/nice idea, KJP--hopefully we'll be able to view Cleveland through more than what might be termed the routine "PR shots." Please don't misunderstand and think that I mean no more pictures of the multitude of developments, etc. Like you, I think these dynamic shots might to be supplemented with "people pictures" from every Cleveland locale, every Cleveland walk of life, every Cleveland nook and cranny. (no mom & pop, dog & baby photos though--please relegate those to the family's scrapbook)

    ^ Not a new stalker--just a new translator...

^ Thanks, Matt, for your succinct summary of a sea of figures--the actual job growth of the 3-Cs can now be easily recognized and appreciated.

YOU D' MAN, ColDayMan, YOU D' MAN! (thanks for sharing)
  7. ^ Like was just said, definitely "Onion" material! Not only are there web-designers in Dayton, but also in Cincinnati (a regional marketing center). Thanks-but-no thanks, Dayton for your "support" of regional know how...
  8. ^ BTW, those comments are pouring in right now. Happily to say, though, in this case almost all of them are positive and supportive of OTR and downtown. (can't claim that about those responses pouring in about "Bones"-- but then, that's another issue entirely...)

A gorgeous parade with literally dozens of drop-dead gorgeous women--my entire perspective of Iran just took a 180-degree turn for the better! (and, BTW, thank you eastvillagedon and NYC)
  10. Would you like to suggest a topic of discussion, or are you just chastising? Maybe this fellow has never ridden one of the Queen City Metro buses and experienced the entrapment that wraps often inflict upon the riders. Thus, "whether to wrap"or "how to wrap" one of the new streetcars will remain similar vital concerns.
  11. While it may seem that Matt often stands alone, actually he may not. An untold number of U/O members may be equally concerned about the reams of stats that routinely accompany the Columbus-boosterism that materializes here, but not many of us possess the patience, the expertise, or the time to challenge this insidious deluge of statistics. Numerous times Matt has demonstrated that he possesses the chops to do just this. Needless to say, it's usually a challenge few other members wish to tackle, so their "silence" doesn't necessarily mean agreement with numbers that too often don't mean anything. For what it's worth, at this time I stand with Matthew Hall.
  12. There's also this old adage that states that respect is something that must be earned--if such is true of men, couldn't it also be true of cities? :|
  13. Shame on you, mrnyc, for presenting this particular mega-city to us here in Ohio. I realize that where YOU reside, Istanbul may not seem like all that, but where we live it DOES seem like all that! Whadda ya' expect us Ohioans to do now? (say, cram the "3-Cs" all together, along with both Lake Erie and the Ohio River, to compete with a showplace like that?) Nothing we can do can possibly ease our pain after seeing these photos--so I guess we're all just gonna have to live with the sobering facts--Istanbul is absolutely magnificent and gorgeous. (Thanks!)
  14. ^^ Agree with both jmecklenborg and OHSnap (above)--the entire quadrant of Rookwood has evolved into Kenwood Town Center II, unsafe for anyone who doesn't own an armored vehicle. As for myself, I'm a retiree who often ventures forth, on foot, from my Norwood apt. near Surrey Square down Smith Rd. and up into one of the "two Rookwoods." The walk is nothing really--that is, until one ventures across the I-71 South entrance... It is THEN that a pedestrian needs to become truly watchful--that stretch of concrete ain't no place for the faint-hearted.
  15. Dayton may have just started its end run back to good grace and prominence, but so much needs to happen (especially in its CBD). I suspect that just about every urban-lover in Ohio wishes this city well. At this particular time what else can be said that isn't already well known? Personally, I'm elated over the looming reality of "Cin-Day" (sorry to the naysayers, but the merger is occurring)--however, Dayton's "internal problems" are formidable...to say the least. Enough said.

No, the rules are for passenger/driver comfort and peace-of-mind. Queen City Metro buses are not airplanes; no explanation is needed to detail the differences between these two modes of travel. No passenger should have to endure another's music, their cell-phone chatter, or their eating. One wouldn't think that's the case on many a metro; half the passengers are so uncouth that they board the bus with a drink in one hand and a cell-phone in the other. It doesn't even occur to these individuals (as they fumble around for their change) how ill-mannered they are. Then many of them sit down and put all their biz out there as they continue to shout into their phone--at least until the bus driver tells them to cool it. These people are pathetic.
  17. ^ Appreciate the update, unusualfire. We can only hope that the hype in the update ("...these should be the nicest office buildings built in greater Cincinnati") will soon become reality. Needless to say, no one wishes this development to steer business away from the CBD (which could easily happen, sadly enough), but that embarrassing vacant Norwood fenced field has sat there long enough--about time for vital new infill!

Say what? A CLEVELANDER posting pictures of Cincinnati?! (simply unheard of) Hey, BigDipper 80, obviously just having a little fun and also enjoying some decent pictures of the city. I'm glad you took the time to post them; that ELPH 300HS really served its purpose! And pu-leeeze--no apologies necessary on those night shots--they all looked great. All I ask is that sometime soon you get back up to your hometown and fire away with that little camera of yours!

An enjoyable "drive," MayDay--thanks for taking all of us along! Other than the fact that I'm planning to transport two small suitcase-nukes to several Cleveland and Columbus locations to neutralize Cincinnati's stiffening competition (OOPS, strike that last remark, ColDayMan!), I learned things about our 3-C's that would keep me coming back. First, Cleveland. What a city of rich, historical, picturesque, and vibrant neighborhoods--wow! Next, Columbus. Please forgive me, Queen City lovers, for starting to LIKE this city. Many eons ago I thought I never could. Now I know I was dead wrong. ( reserve my parking in German Village immediately!) Last, Cincinnati. My hometown. It's a unique and beautiful city that I sincerely hope gives the rest you urbanites the blues. What else can I say? (except that many of us ARE unhappy with the new Great American Tower--instead of being the squat structure it is, it should have been tall and slender, and rivaled Cleveland's two finest. It doesn't.) P.S. Just one other comment and concern... (Am I seeing things?) In that ominous Columbus "tornado" picture, check out the clouds EXACTLY 2-inches above the middle street lamp. Do you not spot a sinister, satanic pair of eyes and a mouth peering down out of the sky? (I'll say no more... :-o)
  20. Hey! Can't say I know a whole lot about Cleveland, but this set of photos sure makes me wanna learn--nice job. (now go out and get some more!)
  21. ^ Perhaps all the excessive scrutiny, second guessing, and complaining have become our streetcar supporters' way of venting their anxiety. Most everyone is frustrated by the fact that Cincinnati's own "Portlandnese Postcard" hasn't yet materialized. Like a scene from one of those western land rush movies (where settlers nervously awaited the "cutting of the ribbon" so they could charge forward to claim new territory), I think we're all simply bored from the seemingly endless constraints. Just when will Cincinnatians be able to hop on one of those beautiful transit-vehicles for themselves? (Ask Duke, right? The beat goes on...)
  22. ^^ Agree with both City Blights and natininja, but our backward time-warp and its accompanying reality here hamstring us all. Just how long has it been now since the FWW cap supports were built, but never incorporated and just how long will we wait for the massive turnaround that the West End so badly needs? Meanwhile, I'm taking closer looks at what Seattle is doing and Columbus has done with capping and taming their own "spaghetti monsters."
  23. I know this area well and love seeing it put "into focus" once again, Sherman. Oh, how it must have been, when all these homes (and those across Reading Rd. around Clinton Springs) were in their glory. Whether this particular bucolic enclave of opulence and class survives, we'll all just have to wait and see. Thanks!
  24. ^ No hard feelings, Civvik, but please allow these dialogues to play out. I often feel the same way you do about various threads (for example, the virtually endless, inane babble on the Trayvon Martin thread), but I've learned to back off and let it go.
  25. ^ Okay and thanks, OCtoCincy! I think we all know that "the news" could go ANY which way--so let's hold our breath and anticipate the best. (I guess...)
