  1. As already mentioned by natininja, catenary-powered light rail commuter-trains (from Mariemont or beyond) entering the Riverfront Transit Center, and hooking up with streetcars headed up through DT to UC, is an exciting possibility! Nevertheless, I have one concern about these Eastern Corridor trains that still lingers: their overall speed and number of stops. To attract riders who would normally drive these distances, the trains are simply going to have to "kick a**" from Points A-B-C-D, etc.--are they not? Realistically, what can we anticipate when it comes to transporting passengers from afar in and out of our downtown?

    ^LOL! (Very good!)
  3. At this time, may I venture out there by saying that Mallory has been a decent mayor who brought positive vibes to Cincinnati. I'm looking forward to Roxanne Qualls, but I will miss him very much.

That touch of blue just adds another touch of magic to an already beautiful photo. Thanks, Sherman!
  5. Robert--I can't tell you how much I both enjoyed and learned from these recent Chicago photos! Superb coverage of Pilsen; it matches your previous coverage of Devon Ave. (however, your photos of Chicago mass-transit in both photo ops. is something to drool over)
  6. ^ Wish this were so, natininja: wish this were so...
  7. Thanks, ColDayMan, for the mix of shots of this vibrant music-capital--it's a city undergoing a transformation (rehab?) as your #8-#9 seem to show. Nashville's certainly on the move! (Oh, by the way... Loved how you wrapped up this tour with five shots of "that other city." I never tire of seeing "that" place...)
  8. A lot to admire here, Jaybird! A historical, handsome city inside and out. Especially liked your many panoramic shots; I learned a great deal about the city's layout (and that water, water, water is everywhere!) Thanks.

Something strange happening to me, ColDayMan--something I don't understand... The more I see of Chicago, the more I'm forgetting all other Midwestern cities--NOW WHY IS THAT??
  10. It sure "appears" to be good news on all "3-C" accounts! Thanks for presenting these provocative and positive graphs, arenn.
  11. ^^ A most provocative post, nati streets! You've done some real "homework" here--hopefully this kind of insight will influence other planners. Thanks.

Great post, Civvik; one to really think about! Just one question, though, concerning your "not-so-smart" list--the very last one mentioning "slogans," etc. Absolutely no disagreement here--we're all probably tired of the relentless and useless "naming" (the "Blue Chip City," etc.). However, I sense that something important may be emerging here in the Queen City--and that is that the city just could develop as a "Mecca of Marketing," considering the powerful presence of P & G, Kroger, and Macy's, etc. So, briefly, what are your thoughts here? In no way do I want to hijack this thread by taking off on this idea, but I really would like to hear from those of you "in-the-know" (perhaps in another thread) if such a development is realistic or feasible?

Thanks, Sherman! I travel Gilbert 2-x/wk and have never tired of this picturesque road into the DT.
  14. ^ Quimbob, the article cited above illustrates "classic Smitherman." This incorrigible, treacherous leopard will never change his spots, so we can all expect more-of-same, except possibly on a more sophisticated and covert level. As Matthew Hall just mentioned, we all have been warned!
  15. ^ Numerous keen observations here, natininja! Will think about these... Thanks!
  16. Chris Smitherman is a cancer that, left unchecked or unguarded, will metastasize in the worst possible way. How COULD Cincinnati voters even think about allowing this fox back into the hen house? He is a self-serving, two-faced, demagogue who will sow divisiveness, turmoil, and destruction at every opportunity. (Detroit is his model for Cincinnati.)
  17. Let's go for the gusto now, Cincy--build it AND THEY WILL COME! Congratulations all!
  18. Enough, enough, buildingcincinnati! Here I am, already loving this city to death, and then you go and add to my misery with these absolutely splendid photographs of one of its most beloved neighborhoods. Shame on you--all I can do now is drool some more and pretend I didn't see them. Thanks!
  19. Aren't you guys being just a bit too hard on Queen City Metro as far as its transit shelters and buses? Let's be honest now--how many of our Cincinnati U/O posters actually routinely ride Metro? (probably very few). More and more Metro buses are the new ones--the "low riders" that are easy to board and exit. No, they're not Megabuses, but they're nowhere near being POW transports either. And, unlike years ago, Metro has consolidated the majority of its routes so they pass either through or nearby its centrally located Government Square sheltered area. Helpful signage all around. No, you won't find stewardesses or an open bar or urinals here, but how much gumption and guts does it take to plop $1.75 in the fare-box, go sit down, and enjoy the ride? Yes, I'm too well aware that these vehicles don't take off like rockets or race out to Cincy's farthest-flung exburbs (as do the trains on Long Island, etc.), but they're not all the terrifying welfare-coaches that many of our posters envision them to be. And, NO, I don't work for Queen City Metro and, YES, I do drive when necessary--and I can affirm that one can learn to appreciate this city's bus service, i.e., by actually using it!

I never knew this place existed, but now I know! Thanks, ink, for helping educate this old arm-chair traveler!
  21. Thanks for once again "slicing & dicing" America's greatest city into "bite-sized pieces" (in this case, Yonkers). For the urban-lover & urbane-minded, Yonkers appears to be an ideal inner suburb/bedroom community for those who love NYC, yet can't handle the stress of actually living on "The Island." (And the public-transportation options to/from Manhattan seem phenomenal, especially with the completion of a BART-system.) Tell me, exactly what is being constructed in photos #1 & #3? Also, three pictures (besides those of the scenic Hudson) that really appealed to me were #22-23-24. These pictures suggest that Yonkers is also very "human oriented" and very livable. (In one of my next lives, I can easily see myself walking along one of these avenues, big smile on my face...) Thanks, Nexis4Jersey. I'm looking forward to your next installments!
  22. Thanks, Keith M., for the time you've spent to help us become more acquainted with some really neat neighborhoods of your new home--I guess at this point, you still consider yourself very much an explorer in a strange land. (This time next year, though, you"ll probably be giving tours of your own...) Thanks again for some fine photographs!
  23. Some really decent research and footwork on your part, Sherman. These troubled structures surely illustrate "the past as present." Thank you!
  24. Wow, some of the best shots of a city ever! What a handsome, urban community. Thanks, Ex-Ithacan, for so many rich, finely-detailed photos--you captured so much here that one viewing will hardly be enough--I'll be back again and again to enjoy!
  25. As your pictures demonstrate again, Jersey City possesses an impressive, handsome skyline even if NYC weren't across the mighty Hudson. Thanks, Nexis4Jersey, for your photography. (but slow down or you'll kill yourself, heh heh!)
