  1. Believe me when I tell you that we here in Cincy feel your pain. To go from hub-status to no-status hurts incredibly, and (like mentioned above) there's not going to be any quick-time, quick-fix, magical aerodrome-solutions. Neither in Cleveland nor Cincinnati are any hot-shot, "feel-good" airlines gonna step in and fill our losses. Needless to say, our two cherished metros are now needing to cope with what was but now isn't. And it really does hurt. (Just ask either Pittsburgh or St. Louis... )
  2. ^ FINALLY! Mainly because I reside in Norwood (2-blocks from "The Tank" @ Surrey Square), for several years I've routinely meandered past this magnificently-forlorn complex and simply begged for its phoenix-like reprieve. Now it may be here... (We'll see.)
  3. The "OTR" photo (the 11th from the last--where Washington Park centers the pic) demonstrates why the CBD and OTR might be considered one "downtown." Obviously, the helicopter perspective makes things appear closer together and less elevated than they really are, but in this shot look how seamlessly OTR blends into the CBD. (In fact, wide Central Parkway past the Kroger building is virtually imperceptible.)
  4. ^ My thoughts too... Just how "urban" must Cincinnati be to be urban? Maybe not in the vernacular of Hong Kong, Tokyo, or NYC, but certainly in the "American Midwest"? Please give us a break by explaining what is meant by "less urban."
  5. If Covington KY's "Cincinnati Marriott at RiverCenter" was added, Cincinnati would actually have 4 "Four-Diamond Hotels."
  6. Absolutely horrible! (What was this--some sort of architectural "insider joke"?)
  7. Kudos on this plethora of helicopter pics--totally a surprising and valuable look at Cincinnati. This kind of aerial-photography doesn't come our way all that often, but when it does it makes a tremendous difference! Just let it be known, for various reasons, I'll be examining these photos for hours to come. At this moment (if time and money were no problem) I would encourage you to consider photographic flyovers of both the fast-emerging Florence/Burlington, KY and the the West Chester/Tylersville Rd. areas. (But, then again, I'm paying for nothing, so it's very easy for me to request too much.) And, added to that, I'm totally unaware of any flight restrictions in and/or around CVG. Nevertheless, Jake...thanks for "making my day."
  8. What's there not to understand, fellas? The Bengals are only a middle-of-the-road team: Lewis and Gruden need to be fired; Dalton needs to go the way of Palmer; and Brown needs to be retired. But none of these things will happen next year or ever.
  9. ^ Please show some respect, all... Is this man or is not this man Cincinnati's next mayor? (Tell me I'm wrong!)
  10. ^ Sorry, but as much as I may disagree with kjbrill on many things, I don't think he's far off-base here. Even though Sittenfeld, Mann, and Flynn may now be our new "local heroes" because of their votes for continuing the streetcar, all three of them were politically astute enough to realize that if they sided with Cincy's newly elected "Demon King," their own political careers would be finished. Believe me, none of these three can be entrusted with much more than saving their own political skins. Nonetheless, what they did do when it was needed made all the difference, and for that, alone, they may be thanked.
  11. I believe FakeCinEnquirer may be referring to this announcement re: Smitherman and the NAACP last June; read this: http://citybeat.com/cincinnati/blog-4767-smitherman_temporarily_stepping_down_from_naacp.html No. Smitherman resigned for good. There's a lot speculation as to why. Well find out soon Smitherman also said today: "This is not over. These streetcar supporters are gloating but, as well all know in politics, things can change in an instant" So he admits he isn't doing what is right for Cincinnati. He's playing politics. Nice. Over and over again, Smitherman's proven himself to be Cincinnati's most deranged and dangerous council member. He contributes absolutely nothing to meetings except trouble. Remember how Alicia Reece continually kept city council in turmoil with all her destructive grandstanding? Smitherman's far worse. After all--she was sane, he's not. He's simply got to be watched at every moment.
  12. No matter what happens hence concerning the streetcar, John Cranley should be recalled and his political career be terminated. Period!
  13. Good for him! Most certainly, many of us here in Cincinnati miss him and appreciate all he did. Indeed, Dohoney was one of this city's most accomplished city managers ever.
  14. Yeah Cranley, piss those guys off and see how things go for you. This list is good--but, then again, exactly where do powerhouses Kroger and Macy's stand? (IE, why haven't they been far more outspoken?)
  15. Thanks, Jake, for this streetcar update, and especially for the unusual perspectives of Elm St. presented in your first and last photos. For a moment, that first pic really blew me away--ie, with "Washington Park" on the immediate left and "PBS" in the center, seemingly only a few blocks apart. (I've always appreciated Cincy's compact core, but I just knew it wasn't that compact!) :-o
  16. Now that Christmas and its four most-beloved "Spirits" are almost upon us, any objection to our new mayor being introduced to a different kind of Xmas spirit altogether? IE, that of Lt. Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, with attache-case in hand? Oh, never mind...just a passing thought.
  17. if memory serves the 51 used to make that turn. Yes it could. Before the #51 route was radically-revamped in August, the bus headed down Jefferson and turned south onto Clifton @ the Ludlow firehouse.
  18. ^ Thanks for your feedback! I just found it intriguing that W&S has purchased a whopping 170 acres next to CVG...then their CEO "just happens to mention Illinois" in passing. (Needless to say, I'm trying to connect the dots and pretend that I know what's going on.)
  19. Lately there's been considerable speculation as to what W&S is planning for its "ALI quadrant" of the CBD, especially a possible new HQs. Yet, on 10/27/13, the Enquirer ran a detailed business article about this insurance behemoth and its powerful president/CEO, John Barrett--and, therein, was this information: "It [W&S] also bought 170 acres near the Cincinnati/Northern International Airport, which Barrett is hoping will attract new companies into the region. He said companies in states like Illinois and California, with higher corporate tax rates, should be prime targets for economic development officials here." Considering that not long ago, Barrett was in talks with Sears about their HQ relocation from suburban Chicago's Hoffman Estates, IL to Cincinnati (at least until John Kasich came to town, along with his infamous $400,000,000 lure to Columbus), I wondering if such discussions might not be quietly taking place once more--or am I hoping for far too much? :wtf:
  20. Thank you for these stark, revealing Ukrainian pictures accompanied by a great commentary! Nevertheless, in the very first photo, I couldn't help but notice that Odessa possesses something special that Cincinnati does not--ie, a streetcar! :-( :-D
  21. Thank you both, TPH2 & ColDayMan, for the richness of your combined, inspired Cincinnati photo-shoot. Gawd, how I loved it all! (The beauty of Cincinnati has to experienced firsthand, as you men did, by walking it; no "flyovers" allowed!)
  22. The "Wow-Factor," Sherman, (x) 3-x. Thanks!
  23. ^ Yes they are, natininja, and be glad for it...

Geez! Exactly what is it about "Norwood, Ohio" (alias, the very center of Cincinnati) that you fellas don't understand? (Like Lakewood=64/Norwood=61) :?

Congratulations, Lakewood! (and, in turn, Cleveland.) But realize that Norwood literally sits in the very center of Cincinnati. (I ought to know; I live there.)
