Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
What is the exact location of this project, please? The only site I'm aware of where a bunch of houses are planned together is vacant lots.

Now I'm interested in the relatively small project Kertesz announced across the street, at 2925 Detroit. It sure doesn't look like much now, but he's saying he wants three restaurants and a boutique. I hope he keeps the building, as long as it's cleaned up. I'm thinking the two former houses won't be around much longer. Land way too valuable.

Construction of the whole western section is way behind the rest.

Regarding the building at the s.e. corner of West 29th and Detroit, here it's now got this all-black, sleek, sort of elegant walk on the West 29th side, and on the south walk is this huge, gaudy, colorful mural.... Does anyone else think it distracts from the bewly rebuilt building's beauty?

Regarding the Vine Court project, I went there today to see what's going on, as the developer states construction is to begin "this month" (July). Absolutely nothing is going on, save a guy working on the back yard of new apartment houses facing Clinton Avenue. Along Vine Court, which, incidentally, has wretched brick painting, are several small old and decrepit buildings, with only a small space remaining that looks like it has any real potential for new residential construction. The land may go up to Franklin Boulevard, but everything is left as it was, with scrub and a lot of trees remaining. No sign anything is going to happen soon.

About a week ago the PD had an article regarding colorful murals being painted by students in the vicinity of the greenway and madae it sound like work would be done very soon.

Maybe a small hotel/motel, as a less expensive alternative to the downtown hotels - many of which are classified as "luxury."- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
See article a few posts up, please. Says construction expected to begin "this month" (July). I'm referring to the townhouses along vine court. There was a relatively small project planned between Detroit and Wheaton Court between W. 41st and W. 45th. Does anyone know if this proposal is still intact? It was to go on what's sort of a strip of land between the two streets - possibly to include demolition of an empty building on Detroit. :?- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Can hardly wait for the shovel to go into the earth for the Vine Court project.- Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
And his wife, Kyle, has a prominent position with NEORSD.- Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
I'm thrilled to see this. The strip has been a drain on the Square for decades. It was mostly occupied for a long time, but not stores up to the quality of those on the square. I know it was constructed in 1939 and had a fire in 1949, I believe (there was a small fire on the parking lot side in the '90s), and that's when they added a parking lot on the roof. No, I don't recall anything about one's parking there. There was a chain supermarket there in the '70s - to be followed by two more food stores, each of lesser quality than the preceding. Originally the strip was a boon to the area, with a popular restaurant on the south end with the cupola. This looks like something that recognizes right across the street is magnificent Moreland Courts, and Shaker Courts across Van Aken ain't too shabby, either. However, those condo owners didn't support the retail that has been there (though, truth be told, I have known Moreland Courts residents who have shopped at Goodwill....). Should there be retail on the first floor of the new apartments? Probably, as long as there's intensive screening, as there's supposed to be on the Square. Actually, the Square doesn't have as good a mix as it used to - lots of food-related establishments but not too much else (yes, I know there's the theater, the Cleveland-themed store, the cell phone store, etc.). Perhaps Van Aken could add to the mix (e.g. books, music, housewares, gift ware, menswear, bakery, even antiques). It used to have these and a lot more.- Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
I'm excited. The sketches look like the downtowns of Toronto or Chicago, where projects of this scale go up every few years.- Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
By "CIA" are you referring to the Cleveland Instiute of Art? I'd sure like to know what's being discussed for that property.- Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
General problem with these forums: Not everyone following University Circle news is going to know there's an Upper Chester forum. Hence the post should be in both places.- Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Plans have called for use of existing parking garage? Is that correct? I know the building with the clothing stores was supposed to be demolished.- Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
I live on rhe East Side but I enjoy Crocker Park, every once in a while because it's got in one place many of the stores at Beachwood Place, Eton, Legacy, and LaPlace. However, whenever I go there I keep thinking if only a fifth of these stores were in downtown Cleveland what an impact they could have!- Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Another Stark proposal that didn't happen: huge mixed-use project near downtown Solon.- Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
As to thos thirteen Bldg. Permits mentioned above, the addresses on W. 20th are way to the south - not even in the main part of W. 20th, near Abbey and Lorain, so I don't think that would be considered Duck Island.- Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
2254 " " 2248 " " 2242 " " 2238 " " 2234 " " 2066 West 17 Street 2070 " " 2074 " " 2078 " " 2082 " " 2086 " " More details at: http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/bza/agenda/2017/crr05-22-2017.pdf Such a cool and insulated little neighborhood. My only gripe with it is its relative isolation - but even that is really a stretch, considering the WSM is a 10 minute walk. Duck Island Club is a treasure, in my opinion, and the new homes fill in the neighborhood very well.- Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
Fortunately, I'd say Duck Island is hotter right now than the apartment areas of Beachwood!- Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Bullard's article DOES mention four components of the property - NOT mentioned in that sentence in relation to change. I say there's no hotel expected, at this time. I'm very skeptacle about any of Stark's announcenents - the way huge, multi-block, mixed-use project proposed for the Warehouse District fizzled out! I say there's about 10%about a n What a shame. i say there's about a 10% chance nuCLEus will materialize at all...- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I think I've seen something over the years but don't recall any details. Nothing recently. That leaves the former circle sort of a hodge-podge. A Victorian "circle" would add flavor to Ohio City - nothing like that, nor in Tremont. But Ohio City still has some buildings built for a circle. Imagine if the circle were there and the vacant lots were filled in with new buildings built for a circle (a la Washington, DC, etc.). It was announced for a while there would be a "University Circle" again but it never happened.- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
That's too bad and I hope the intersection reverts to four-way. Then, I'd like to see Franklin Circle a real circle again! [and Magnolia Drive in University Circle a single winding drive again, or at least the segment renamed "Juniper" named "Magnolia" once again, on and on....]- Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Do you know for a fact Franklin used to go right across West 25th? On my old maps it looks like it did so, but I don't know how accurate they are. After all, all cities seem to have streets with the same name that don't quite connect when crossing another street. - Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
