  1. Well the project by Columbus Road is supposed to be a done deal - right? Will it begin this year? I haven't seen any demolition since that long-abandoned cafe was demolished.
  2. Yes, it was common not to have to put an address on a piece of mail if it were an important building. In a small community a name and the community were plenty, too. Now, as for the cupola. it's a cop-out. There's no "false sense of history" of any kind  were the cupola to be returned. The building was built with it in 1902, as far as I know, and that's the whole story. Perfect restoration would be to rebuild the cupola which, incidentally, is very small considering the size of the building as well as the size of the project. But it does, indeed, have a crowning effect, as the original architect had in mind. It's true the building went through much of its history without the cupola - why, I don't know, and it would be interesting to find out why it disappeared when the building was fairly new - but that's no excuse. If no effort is made to rebuild the cupola it's someone trying to save money  and construction time. Period. That's the whole thing. It doesn't matter how much expertise is put into the remainder of the exterior, nor is it a security thing. The room up there needn't be available to hotel guests, etc., but it should be there. :yap: :police:
  3. Has everyone noticed how the panels in the horizontal strips along East Ninth Street change from dark green to lighter-tone green? I didn't see this in the rendering? It's supposed to create visual interest? Could the panel colors not be final yet?
  4. I can wait the 11 more months, too, for the Heinen's. However, they had some idea what the project entails when somewhat earlier dates were given, like at least as early as October of this year. Considering the whole Rotunda building, they've said over the years, has been fairly well maintained, and major architectural features are supposed to be maintained, I'm not that impressed such a huge amount of work has to go into making it into a supermarket. What astounds me in its enormousness is the work required to go into construction - and then all the furnishing - of the County Administration Building this very year. Now that's impressive! Like the location, so far away from our other governmental buildings, is kinda dumb, it's kinda dumb the timing has been such that there's this big gap between the closing of all the offices in the former County Administration Building and the big move to the new building. I realize the hotel people are in a rush to get going, and I'm thrilled about that, but the lack of coordination here gives so much extra work for so many.... Also, of course, all that's going on with the Breuer Tower is extremely admirable in taking place in such a short time.
  5. You went by fast. There was something starting to rise about two weeks ago - probably the shaft.
  6. House is absolutely within City's Historic District. Some significant hoops would have to be gone through for demolition to be allowed. The situation is looking good. Whew!
  7. Yes, there was a florist in the n.w. corner, Superior level, for many years. This could be interesting.... The whole hotel thing is quite odd there, and I wrote an op/ed for the PD when it first opened. I had recently come back from NYC and was all entranced with the luxury hotels there. The kinds of shops and restaurants on the lower two levels, then and still now, are now what one would expect in a building housing a Hyatt-Regency (and all completely open in one huge atrium space)!
  8. Wups - I meant coming from the north of course, Silly.... I'd expect there might be an arch over E. 13th Street and/or East 17th.
  9. 11420 Wade Park Avenue dates from ca. 1910-15. Amazingly, this house and the brick house to the east are the only houses on the north side of Wade Park in that block. Let's keep them both there!
  10. I wonder if that house is in the Magnolia-Wade Park Historic District. I sure hope so!
  11. Of course, this is about 11420 Wade Park Avenue. What do you mean by "they are there?" They stand or they are within the area where the new buildings would be built? In the plan with the footprints of the buildings, as well as the illustration showing the three-dimensional buildings from above, it looks like the site doesn't quite go all the way to Wade Park Avenue. then I can't tell if the corner is all parking or the stucco house. If the house is supposed to go I hope there's a protest to save it. It's wretched how many outstanding houses, as well as other structures, have been demolished in the University Circle/Wade Park area. The Parkside building is worthy, too. I recall when there was a brick terrace along side it - just next to what was the Howard Johnsons's highrise travel lodge.
  12. How do the new dormitory plans relate to the wonderful stucco house at the corner of E. 115th and Wade Park Avenue? Article I saw said the complex will go on what has been an athletic field, so they'd better not be taking that great Arts and Crafts house! Or the brick church/former house next to it on Wade Park....
  13. Too late. It looks like two more "Victorian" arches planned for Euclid Avenue. What about over streets coming from the south?
  14. What's the "scale down Barn?"
  15. "The Hyatt is in this arcade on the North End - So are they doing Hyatt renovation on the South End?" The Hyatt goes across most of the length of The Arcade, and might even include the tower on the Euclid Avenue side.
  16. I've seen wedding parties having photos taken at The Arcade dozens of times over the years. Recently I was there (a Saturday, I suppose) and there were two groups at once.
  17. Let's say "former Free Clinic Building," please, to be accurate.
  18. That's the original way of saying it! What do you mean? The building opened in 1924 as the Union Trust Building.
  19. The exterior of the former Sovereign, which also is not regular market-rate apartments, has been entirely restored and looks great. I know - not the same entity was behind it, I suppose.
  20. Does anyone know if the exterior will be restored at all - e.g. more historic looking windows? This was, after all, one of the five luxury apartment-hotels built around the same time in the University Circle area and it used to look a lot better.
  21. You mean the Landmark Office Buildings? Why the "Sherwin Williams tower" of interest?
  22. Is Superior cut off in the renderings for a festival of some sort? I thought the latest plans were for only Ontario to be cut off. Has this changed???
  23. Okay - I see it's a gasline replacement. Can hardly wait for the real project!
  24. I know the Larchmere Boulevard streetscape/beautification work is to begin this year but I pictured not earlier than the spring. All of a sudden, by mid-February, I see workers digging up sidewalks on the south side. Is this the beginning of the project or is this some sort of maintenance/repair work?
