  1. What happened to the project to add special lighting to those median strips along Euclid from around East 107th eastward? It looks like wires were buried and that's it. What will the lighting be like, if they every install it?
  2. The original cupola was quite small. It wouldn't be the end of the word for it to be recreated. It would certainly add same panache to the building and intersection.
  3. The building does not look like the late a'50s or '60s (e.g. East Ohio, Erieview, CEI, Federal Bldg.) because it has that matte silvery combined with other pale tonality colors that became popular in the early 2000s. We have many examples in the region, such as the NEORSD headquarters, some of the Cleveland Clinic's new buildings, and new buildings in Chagrin Highlands.
  4. Big hotel renovation. Several floors of rooms being renovated/redecorated - that's why the curtains aren't all drawn, as usual, and blinds are replacing them. What will become of all the vacant storefronts - some forced out - will be the next big question....
  5. Does anyone know what the story is with the Alhambra Apartments at Wade Park Avenue and East 86th Street? A segment by E. 86th was knocked down several years ago but the remainder has been left standing, with windows now out, etc. Why was some demolished and why does the remainder stand, and for years? I'm terribly sorry any was removed at all but why is it left in this state? Here's a photo when the building was in its heyday: http://images.ulib.csuohio.edu/cdm/singleitem/collection/postcards/id/2515/rec/2 Would have been gorgeous if restored.
  6. Okay - I suppose the word "project" should be replaced by "complex" once the construction is completed. That's what I thought the article meant - available real estate. 8-)
  7. So aren't the two projects I mentioned "for-sale projects?" I'm sure they are and, if the writer meant salable housing, how could Freshwater Cleveland get it wrong?
  8. By "for-sale project" I assume they mean a project with units currently for sale? If they mean a project of homes to purchase, rather than to rent, I'm certain that isn't correct because both the townhouses along the railroad tracks, and the colored section of the complex at the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 118th Street are individually owned townhouses.
  9. The first house shown was quite distinctive - probably unique in Cleveland. The others look like many that are or were on Magnolia Drive, Juniper Road, Hazel Drive, Wade Park Avenue, East Boulevard in Glenville, streets between Euclid and Forest Hill Avenue or Terrace Road, etc. I think they were all up a slight rise from the street which gave them a more imposing image.
  10. You should be able to open this link - showing all the houses with addresses 1411-1499 East Boulevard and multiple photos of some: http://cplorg.cdmhost.com/cdm/compoundobject/collection/p4014coll18/id/2659/rec/4
  11. Removed temporarily. I see why it doesn't work; photos are tied into my entire My Photos file. I'll get the original web address.
  12. This is the Brutalist apartment building just referred to:
  13. Regarding the Brutalist long, serpantine apartment building along East Boulevard between Wade Park and Ashbury Avenues - I had heard it's to be replaced by some other sort of residential structure or structures - condos, townhouses, or whatever. Does anyone have information on this? The concrete building, planned a luxury apartments facing the park, replaced some ten substantial houses that had mainly fallen into less-than-ideal uses/condition. I have photos of them all, if anyone wants to see.
  14. What happened with the project of adding some sort of artistic lighting to several of those islands in the middle of Euclid Avenue from around the Church of the Covenant toward E. 107th Street? I saw work that implied they were adding underground wiring and then nothing new visible. This was discussed briefly here last fall.
  15. I see this just made it into the Orthodox community's e-newsletter but not in other media yet, as far as I've seen. Perhaps Cleveland Jewish News today? However, I haven't seen it in the CJN's "Boker Tov" daily news items so probably not. Anyway, this is important enough it should be announced in the Hts. papers right away.
  16. And then there's that whole crazy situation with the former Millikin School. What's the latest with that? The last I heard, after all the accolades about how win win the solution was for the Mosdos school to rent and renovate the building, I heard there was a big hassle and construction never began, etc. Haven't seen anything new in maybe four months.
  17. What is going on with the Cleveland Heights portion of the Oakwood property? I have not seen anything news pertaining to this acreage at City Council meetings or in the "Sun Press." There were plans to construct a senior residential colony but what gives?
  18. The Welcome Houses I see on Google Images show buildings that look in good repair and mostly fairly new. I don't expect any restoration of these two Victorians but repair/renovation to the institution's needs. Certainly glad the buildings are to be retained, anyway.
  19. Yes, School Board now saying all h.s. students are to be at Wiley. MyTwoSense: As individuals wrote above, it looks like those "extensions" are what will remain and be remodeled of the so-called "Science Wing." I don't think they'll start athletic facilities from scratch at all. The building was gorgeous when it first opened. How it will all come out depends on how they handle the windows and other "improvements" over the years. Attractive landscaping is shown but how much will actually materialize and how much respect will the students give it?
  20. Not I! Would have been horrible demolishing these two once-fine brick Victorians on the main residential street in Ohio City. Of course it looks bad around them, too, but at least they are a duo which should set a positive tone for what the neighborhood is about as an historic residential enclave, with Franklin the most prestigious street....
  21. What does anyone know about the group that wants to takeover the two County Archives buildings? The two Victorians have looked bad for a number of years. If the Archives can't restore historic houses what are the chance of the new entity doing better? This facility, which has helped so many preservationists and historians over the years, has set a poor example as to how to maintain historic structures. Even the exteriors - very bad.
  22. Does anyone know if the County Archives is to go into this building? I'm guessing, despite the big argument for enormous new construction that so many County facilities will be consolidated, that many that were scattered will still not make it into the new building.
  23. The columns along E. 9th are being covered but are far from the facade material. There's so much to do once construction is about complete - with all the office moving, equipment, high tech, etc., etc. Summer? haha
  24. So you're saying those pieces at the ends added on to the 1920s wings shall remain from the modern science addition - that not the entire modern addition will be demolished after all. I don't know the floorplan very well so I can't speak as to what is were in these sections.
  25. I'm sure the courtyard shown is quite speculative but that the drawing reflects the trends today for high schools. Note there are additions at the end of each wing and then, of course, more additions will be made to the original building. The windows will probably not look much like the mid-1920s, but it's nice to get the so-called Hampton Court Palace-influenced overall image back. Very, very nice.
