  1. It would well fit into the south side of Euclid Avenue part of the campus - going well with the other 1910s or 1920s buildings on that side. I'd just like to see that aforementioned rendering, even if the actual architect was not yet hired.
  2. I have a substantial Euclid Avenue collection and am disgusted when anything from before WW II is removed. One exception, of course: the monstrosity that had been just to the west of Dunham Tavern. There had been some nice plans for renovating it but, other than that possibility, it was absolutely hideous. I know, I know - I digress from the purpose of this particular forum....
  3. Could someone post that rough drawing for the new building at Euclid and E. 22nd, please? Such a rush to tear down the Wolfe Music Building when the architect hasn't even been hired yet?? I'm very, very sorry to see the Wolfe Music Building go but at least I'd like to think a respectible building is to go up in its place. Sure feel this would have been a perfect argument for "Facadism" - where the terra cotta facade, restored of course, is incorporated into the new facade. Just the facade of the former music company building would be enough to retain this bit of history on the Avenue and one of Greater Cleveland's wonderful terra cotta facades. Wonder if it was ever considered.... Read more: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,10753.300.html#ixzz27hS3xj6N
  4. Is there a prospective dwawing on the webs showing the new CSU building to be built at Euclid and E. 22nd? I'm very, very sorry to see the Wolfe Music Building go but at least I'd like to think a respectible building is to go up in its place. Sure feel this would have been a perfect argument for "Facadism" - where the terra cotta facade, restored of course, is incorporated into the new facade. 5. I see the "4515" on the building in the plan, so I take it that's the correct address and it's to be on the north side of Superior. Now, why does it look like the word "Presbyterian" is to be on the building???
  6. Regarding the proposed Lutheran office building shown on the previous page, this is the very first I've seen of it and I find it exciting. What is the true address? It says "4515 and 4516" - implying it's on both sides of Superior.... what gives? Meanwhile, when is construction expected to commence? What is or has been on that site? 8-)
  7. Where is an illustration of CSU's proposed life sciences building - to be constructed on the site of the former Holiday Inn and the Wolfe Music Building (unfortunately!....)?
  8. Went back to Old Chinatown and found it's Emperor's Palace, at 2136 Rockwell. I didn't go in but it looked like it's now open. Phone number given on the web is (216) 861-9998. Beyond the Oriental-themed sculpture in the entrance lobby I could see an exquisite chandelier and a set restaurant table, so I'm guessing the place is now open. Can't find any other info. on the web yet, like a menu, but what I saw definitely makes an elegant impression and it appears it's a one-of-a-kind place - not part of a chain. Does anyone have more information on it? I had read awhile ago the string of restaurants planned for that building would all be of different types - one expensive, one vegetarian, etc. Is this to be the most upscale one? Who knows something? Has anyone here actually eaten there?
  9. There's a new business sign in the building on Rockwell being prepared as a hotspot for new restaurants. Can't tell from the name or looking in windows; does anyone know what type of business this is to be? It doesn't yet look like a restaurant, though I had read the entire row would be eateries of some sort of another.
  10. I took the set of four photos and hadn't seen the sign at E. 21st. I'd always like to see the small Rockwell area and the major AsiaTown area linked - i.e. considered one area. I don't know what to say about the actual name but I suppose it could be considered "Old Chinatown" as within Asiatown. As Asiatown continues to become more "Asian," I suppose the small half-a-mile or so separating the two areas might become more "Asian" as well. Or non-descript, anyway. Probably that "Chinatown" sign should be changed to "Old Chinatown?" Who would have put it up, anyway?
  11. No - he said "...but it's depressing to think of what a stark contrast it is to most of Cleveland." It doesn't matter. I'm sure it wasn't meant to emphasis race.
  12. I see now a store named "Glitter" is coming downstairs but I'm quite positive a store with just that title had been in the mall fairly recently.
  13. "Stark contrast to most of Cleveland?" You don't think there are kids in the neighborhoods around Cleveland? Guess you're implying "white" and families with some money.... Even then there are quite a few of these in parts of Cleveland!
  14. So far we've gotten no concrete information of one decent new shop coming to TC, even though the Casino has been open several months. The music t-shirt shop is okay but it doesn't count because it was already a kiosk and it's just "so-so" anyway, as far as the image of the mall is concerned.
  15. Here are some photos I just took this a.m. of "Old Chinatown." Starts with "the new look" - view when coming from E. 24th Street end. Sure wish this tiny district were totally linked with the ever-evolving AsiaTown, which is so much larger and has so much potential!
  16. I'm extremely happy about Hazel 8 because Hazel Drive used to be lined with fine houses on both sides (yes - even by the mansion that became part of WRHS) and there will be upscale living there again. It's shocking to me, though, how horrible WRAH's old garden walls look! They're pouring millions (I must assume) into renovating parts of the museum interior but what's going to happen with these walls? I know volunteers have worked on the gardens in recent years but I don't know what's going on with that. Of course I want to see the walls along the Court all restored - never, ever demolished and not replaced!!! Anyway, the apartments will be a WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL place to live for some very lucky people!
  17. I wouldn't put too much cotton into what the Manhattan guy said to me. He wasn't so accurate in what he said about the trousers I was interest in.... Funny how that leather store sign simply disappeared. :wink2:
  18. Regarding the Erie Square apartment complex - yes, construction has been going on for many weeks and the past week or so it got to the fourth and final floor level. I can see the design of the windows, etc. isn't the same but that's okay. MUCH better new design/floor plan, with facade and front section matching those of unscathed building, than complete demolition and starting over - if even.
  19. Sales associate in Manhattan says they're not leaving....
  20. New construction planned for 7410: EUCLID CORRIDOR DESIGN REVIEW EC2012-029 – Dozanti - Midtown Brakes New Construction Project Address: 7410 Carnegie Avenue Project Representatives: Brian West, Cleary Building Corp. Dan Dozanti, Midtown Brakes So is something to be demolished for this?
  21. Sounds like some awesome place in a science fiction film, doesn't it?
  22. So now that the terrace on Keemar Court, off E. 101st just to the north of Chester, is entirely knocked down (unfortunately), does any one have information on what's going on with the apartments planned for that site - Upper Chester? http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2008/03/upper_chester_plans_are_exciti.html I was kind of hoping the terrace would have been retained and this project would go up in front of it but, in any case, there's plenty of room now for the project so what's going on? I'd REALLY like to see construction begin this year! 8-)
  23. I just saw the brochure again which is currently being handed out on the buses. It says the station is now called "University Circle Rapid Station" and was "formerly known as the University-Cedar Rapid Station." Whoosh!
  24. Speaking of my proposals for naming the two new stations, near Mayfield Road and on Cedar Road, why is it a handout on the buses says the new name of the current one on Cedar is "University Circle Rapid Station," and it was formerly the "Cedar-University Rapid Station," while on GCRTA's website, under "Planning & Development: Major Projects," the text refers to its current name as Cedar - University Rapid Station" and says it was formerly the "University Circle Rapid Station?" The e-news sent a few days ago agrees with the latter. Of course, neither works with the other proposal "University Circle - Little Italy Rapid Station." Again, I'm proposing the following totally consistent and logical combination for University Circle's two Rapid stations: Cedar - University Circle Rapid Station Little Italy - University Circle Rapid Station
