  1. Okay - I looked more carefully at the proposed route 32 schedule and see the bus is actually said to make connections with the HealthLine at both E. 89th and E. 93rd. So - where at E. 93rd? I have suggested some sort of arrangement be made with the Clinic for individuals to be able to wait inside the parking garage entrance....
  2. I just got the new 32 schedule for 3/18/12 and it represents exactly what I had feare (and inquired about) last December. According to the posted schedule, everyone forced to change between the 32 and the HealthLine – and this means a good percentage of the people commuting between downtown and Cleveland Hts., University Hts., etc. will have to change at E. 89th St. – not even by the E. 93rd parking garage, as I had suggested. Where will the large group - that currently waits inside the heated University Rapid Station the many, many days of bad weather a year we experience here – wait in the evening rush hour for the 32 buses that are still scheduled in over-30-minute intervals??? Again, this involves everyone who, for whatever reason, takes the bus – the elderly, the frail, etc. Where is there to wait at Euclid and E. 89th? Any heated area? Even a bench? Is some sort of heated shelter at least in the works? Also, an elaborate investment is being budgeted in rebuilding the University Rapid Station; are all these riders who are now forced to transfer not going to be able to take advantage of the new station once built? That would certainly remove a good share of its usefulness. :-(
  3. Thanks. That's a little something, anyway. Do you know if it's been determined who's opening and the exact variety? I recall in a description a while back each restaurant was to have a different theme - perhaps all Oriental but different type.
  4. I keep going over to "Old Chinatown" hoping to see some action concerning those five or so planned restaurants but the beautiful facades always look the same. What's going on with the plans to open a bunch of restaurants all with different theme? One was to be vegeterian, I believe, etc. Sounded great. :?
  5. Regarding that "1842" year, I've researched the Tavern, for the Guide to Cleveland Architecture, and was told by a Tavern employee the 1824 structure was added to and remodelled. I believe it's in there - was not replaced and thus the sign is acceptable.
  6. A so-called "park" need not necessarily discourage development on the same site. When several wonderful residential/commercial developments at Lee/Meadowbrook/Tullamore in Cleveland Heights fizzled out, the City took the parcel and made a temporary "park." The decrepit parking lot paving was removed, the foliage trimmed, and a picnic table or two added. Just enough put into it such that there's minimal public expense during the wait for another decent development plan. However, if Dunham actually purchases this property, and demolishes the eyesore, I imagine that's that for the next 25 years. It's just such a shame the highrise was neglected to the point it became so extremely ugly and such a deterrant to the historic appearance of the Tavern. Nevertheless, it could once again look appearling - with big bucks and some imagination - and add a great deal to the vitality of the vicinity - particularly effective were it to spur other development around it.
  7. You're referring to the corner just beyond Dunham Tavern? That's renovation of a building so I wouldn't associate it with "moving dirt around" at this stage. I don't think there are any more "pictures" around.
  8. That's more what I'm thinking. Could be a wealthy benefactor or benefactors of Dunham, too. As an aside, the same thing happend with us with our house in 1985. We had a crummy looking neighbor and, after the house was listed for months and we had changed realtors and finally a buyer came along, the bank said it was worth somewhat less and I was mad! Of course we were very anxious and the experienced realtor urged us to accept the lower amount and comply with the deal. Now, back on topic....
  9. Well I heard on Sunday, from someone very involved with Dunham Tavern, that they are purchasing it and will demolish the hulk. "Many a slip between cup and lip," however....
  10. Regarding the photo just posted, does anyone know the story regarding the former mansion with large frontal addition to the bottom left? I recall when construction began - probably at least ten years ago. Then it was started again but I don't think anything has happened in the past few years. Much potential. Who owns and what happened? Second, I've heard conflicting stories - that a developer is or has purchased the monstrosity to the west of Dunham Tavern, to totally retrofit it and make it presentable, and also Dunham Tavern is or has raised the funds to purchase and demolish it. Are either of these scenarios quite certain?

I should correct what I wrote about a week ago on the "Retail" forum, that got moved here on 12/28. The Richmond Sears was very quiet the day after Thanksgiving, particularly in contrast to Penney's Richmond, but the hardware area in the basement was hopping - particularly the area at the far end, coming from the escalator. I assume there was some sort of special sale going on that the rest of the store wasn't participating in. Also, going to the Great Lakes Mall Sears several times recently, I think I can safely say the Mentor Sears is somewhat larger.

Regarding the Sears at Richmond Town Center, does anyone foresee its being one of those 120 Sears' or KMarts that will be closing soon? It's seemed very quiet for years. I was at the mall the day after Thanksgiving; Penney's was totally buzzing, with many extra salespeople on the first floor and lots of customers (and decorations, too). Upstairs - close to the usual. Macy's first floor was pretty busy compared to the usual, too, but less so. Then I went to Sears - very quiet, as usual, all over. Usual number of employees, customers. Limited decorations. I was hoping when the Sears Hardware in Willoughby Hills closed at least some of the hardware categores would come back to Richmond but it seems not. Still can't buy an ordinary light bulb there, let alone lighting fixtures - all the standard stuff Sears sold for a century-plus.

Well my Nexus LEDclock I bought from the Museum of Modern Art shop, in NY, reminds me of it:[/img]

The current facing material sure doesn't look like the architect's prospective drawings: http://mocacleveland.org/newbuilding.php
  15. Maybe it's here somewhere but does anyone have the web address for Fat Fish Blue Cleveland's auction? There's a sign on a window of the place but I forgot the full web address. Says they'll accept bids very low, etc. Thanks.
  16. Wow - you're expecting stores to open as soon as spring, '12? You mean the stores on the north side, where the apartments are slightly ahead? I believe that's the side where Constantino's is supposed to go - right?

I'd think the final coating would have gone through the whole design review process at least six months ago.
  18. Maybe someone was working on that light sculpture near E. 14th, as someone suggested, but now none of the lights work....

So when are we going to see the final coating? Yes, for this particular structure I've been rooting for fairly black. Ultra-sophisticated. The digital clock I got from MOMA in NY, with black, shiny glass and purple LCD numbers reminds me of the design I've been expecting for this edifice. Litts' first articles describing the final design said they had ruled out bronze due to cost and were going for the black. So can hardly wait to see it.
  20. I went by on the HealthLine quickly this a.m., but it looks like threatened Church of the Transfiguration, adjoining former Cleveland Play House property now owned by Clinic, now sports "Available" sign. Does anyone know anything about this?
  21. Pls note mural shown in Buffalo Main Street photo - same design as one covering facade of hulk just to west of Dunham Tavern.... http://www.buffalorising.com/2011/12/returning-cars-to-main-street-and-the-cleveland-brt.html I read last week there's some proposal in the offing for some entity to purchase this monstrosity, but I haven't seen any more information. it was to be discussed at a meeting. What does anyone know about this? Who's interested in purchasing that former buiding and what do they propose to do with it or replace it with? Anything going on with the property immediately to the east of Dunham where the sign announces a restoration and seeks tenants? I've seen no action whatsoever. :yap:
  22. Read it again: "Cleveland....is one fifth the size of Detroit." Didn't say "the gambling market is...." Even if he that's what he meant, why on earth would Detroit's gambling market be five times the size of Cleveland's?
  23. The Casino's general manager states Cleveland is one-fifth the population of Detroit???? How do they hire these people? Cleveland has long been somewhere in the vicinity of one-half the size of Detroit (city proper as well as metropolitan area). Did anybody else notice this ridiculous statement in "Crains's?" In some areas Cleveland is equal to or ahead of Detroit, in fact. Always was. Detroit was smaller until the 1910s when they both boomed with the auto industry, and then Detroit got considerably ahead. For a while the gap has been narrowing, at least slightly. http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20111213/FREE/111219949
  24. It's a pretty noticeable piece. Nothing great and not that creative, but appropriate to the site and does look pretty good a night. Working, that is. Playhouse Square could definitely use streetscaping to make it stand out, as it was given the same paviang, lighting as the rest of the stretch toward Public Square, unfortunately.
  25. HOTL Baltimore to you! At the same station the computer which always had on display Euclid Corridor info. is never on. Can it be turrned on or is it malfunctioning? Are other ones at the stations working? Are they all "turned off" indefinitely? I know this one is NEVER one when I wait there. Frankly, I never expected this sort of "frill" amenity to be functioning on a longterm basis....
