Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand
I'd say the continuous facade, for the most part, could be associated with the Beaux-Arts movement.

They were mainly from Edmunds north to Wade Park avenues.

A "unified" look in this case is really questionable, as I think the faces should look like separate buildings. But signage can change that too.

Really? I'd imagine those who have purchased here specifically do not want a lot of landscaping to plan and purchase, and maintain. Look around: each resident does his or her own thing in front of each house - just enough yo make a statement. See the row on W.18th; there's a good variety of plant choices and arrangements on postage-sized yards. Like the expensive row houses in the eastern seaboard cities and San Francisco.

That's what it is now! And almost every month an old house goes such that there aren't that many of them left to replace with the modern, and I'm fine with that!

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I know someone commented on this a few months ago, but is West 28th Street, coming from the south, supposed to remain detached from the rebuilt Franklin Circle? If so I think it's a shame. Just a nuisance.

Does anyone know what's going on with the Rhodes House on Franklin? For many months I had pictured the Rhodes and Sanford Houses to be redeveloped simultaneously, and now one is gloriously finished and the other is still a blot on the scene, with all the peeling paint and discoloration on the exterior, etc. Also, who owns the corner parking lot to the west? That could look a whole lot better.

The project should spif up the block and sort of extend the "Ohio City vibe." I note the houses on that block of Franklin are bland compared to those east of West 47th Street.

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
There have been such circulars in the past. Definitely between Shaker Square and Coventry Village.

Yes, the public transportation remark is quite obnoxious. Unless someone has a major walking problem, the entire Ohio City is pretty darned good for public transportation! Was the writer thinking of big city districts with subway or train entrances at almost every intersection? They're not exactly a necessity of life....

I follow EVERYTHING in Ohio City, Tremont, Gordon Square/Detroit Shoreway, downtown, Univ. Circle, Little Italy, and many areas. This is true!

It wasn't looking too great in its last years, but it caused quite a sensation when new. The original Yonge Street facade of Eaton Centre in Toronto reminded me a little of the Bond store, on a much grander scale, of course, but then they remodeled Eaton's exterior.

Downtown Cleveland has areas of somewhat historic-looking lighting but yes, the Euclid Corridor light poles leave a Lot to be desired aesthetically.

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
Yes, I'm extremely anxious for the whole character of that site to change completely. I might some day want to live in one of those bldgs. on Shaker Boulevard east of the Square....

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
Fine but you really need to get out of the car to see what's really going on - how horribly shabby the Square is: the peeling and filthy paint, the cracked and missing wood trim, the missing and inappropriately replaced architectural decorative features.... The front of the Van Aken strip is pretty bad too. See not only around the entrance to CVS but go inside and look around the vestibule.... The landscaping leaves a lot to be desired, too, at this point.

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
That's nice, but that building got lots of publicity in the PD many months ago and, empty, it's Looked absolutely crummy for many months. I want to see things done with the many bldgs. that hadn't been publized but look almost as bad as 2804 had looked a year ago

This building started life as a supermarket, but I recall when a Drug Mart moved in there from a site on Larchmere just west of North Moreland In 1974. There are currently several Drug Marts in Lakewood.

I couldn't open article here but found it on the Web. It says " eastern" end of commercial district but, of course, that site is on the western end. I sent a message to SB noting this typo.

The upper floor interiors of these buildings are all going to be connected, like one big building - right?

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
Coral doesn't deserve to own the Square if it's keeping up its exterior (at least) so poorly. I certainly expected the painting, for example, to be done this recent painting season! It looks horrible - virtually slum-like. This is very unfair to the business owners on the Square who want to retain a respectable clientele and even those with apartments or condos in the immediate vicinity; it's a bad image for everyone who owns or rents in the area and discouraging to those who may consider renting or buying there. Meanwhile, some program needs to be set up to encourage investment in many of the apartment buildings - particularly those south of the Square. The Councilperson for that area should very involved. There should be public meetings and some sort of funding, like loan funding set up for building owners. Some sort of punishment for those who don't keep their buildings up, too. And if they truly can't afford it they, too, should not be owning these buildings.

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
The first thing I 'ce wanted for many, many years is a complete architectural restoration of the Square. That means bringing back wood shutters where they had been, replacing wood shutters where they had been and in the correct style and proportions, bringing back the missing decorative wood trim, bringing back the missing iron lanterns, but rid of the replacement windows with fake plasticky muntins (e.g. Coral office area), and going back to the Georgian-style windows of real wood. Get rid of the vinyl siding behind CVS. windows of real wood. Painting situation is desperate! Must be a real turnoff to prospective tenants. Coral had created an ofxfs-white, as I had suggested, but no brash white, like the bank used a few years ago....

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
I did update this about a week ago, for what it's worth. If the Square is for sale it's no excuse for tremendous lack of maintenance at least in its exterior. The paint alone is wretched! The Van Aken strip is even worse.

Are you certain it's larger than the Centennial? Each floor is huge, and it's twenty stories - not that much shorter.- Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
I'd assume the pink will not be visible much longer. - Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
