Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
College Town Plaza and walkway - finished, as far as I can tell. At least building was demolished a while back and the walkway looks aboaut finished.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
E. 4th needs a lot of wig shops. Also pawnbrokers, schlock jewelry and schlock, cheap duds. Ah, nostalgia.... Bring me the good ol' days of downtown.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Yes, thanks. The senior project proposal I had had for 6700 but it might have been my mistake. Since the two 1920s bldgs. are nearly obliterated (too bad restoration/renovation wasn't a higher priority), I hope construction begins very, very soon (and yes, I know it's virtually winter!).... At least put a decent illustrated sign up.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Can anyone post an illustration of the huge thing going up at 6700 Euclid? There was an illustration posted here maybe three months ago and, if it was ever correct, it sure is nothing like what is being constructed. Fortuntely, there is a sign with illustration on the Carnegie side but no on Euclid, as far as I've seen lately. There was in the early construction weeks - looks like they moved it to Carnegie. In any case, it would be nice to have it here. How about an illustration of the senior housing project to go up where the two highrise, twin apt. bldgs. are being demolished? I think its a real shame they were not saved (I know an architectural firm came out with a restoration/renovation proposal to save them for the senior use) so I hope the new construction is at least a decent design!

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
I also follow various construction projects along the route - difficult to see when standing. Regarding rush hours, we need more 32 buses at the Univ. Rapid station at these times. a 35-minute gap from 5:21 pm to 5:56 pm is outragious!

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Not only is standing for many blocks physically difficult for some passengers, it is also a waste of time when one can take advantage of the time to looks at books, magazines, or newspapers. This is very important to me.

Woman in new Room Service on W. 25th Sat. told me, when I mentioned some had said they were moving to E. 4th instead, that a different style venue is still planned for the E. 4th space. Didn't want to divulge any details, though. Said something like "You'll find out."

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
Jerry - I should also add the University station should be expected to grow in riders more than the Windemere station. It's still the main Univ. Circle station and Univ. Circle is growing in leaps and bounds the next few years. Can't wait to see the new one go up between Mayfield and Euclid, too. Do you think it will begin next year? Is the one at E. 120th to be closed (I'm sure it is but am asking anyway).

Bldgs. not that confusing once one is outside. They were built different times, have different history. I see the construction on the roof of the larger building, which has the hotel, big lobby/hallway, etc.

South Euclid: Cedar Center
Thanks. I didn't want to give the impression I'm on the City's side; I just wanted to see something in writing with more detail than I had heard. I read the "Sun Press" but not the paper covering South Euclid, normally.
-
South Euclid: Cedar Center
I heard construction did not begin in October due to some stinky disagreement with the Cleveland Hts.-Univ. Heights School Board. What gives?????? Sun Press should publish an article, already!

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Thanks, Jerry! There are enough problems for some of us as is. And the HealthLine BRTs are a long way from running as they're supposed to - every five minutes and staggered every other type.

Are you sure the W. 25 building is part of the MRN project? I know they have the highrise bank building, along with some parcels in Lorain (such as the bldg. that long houses the Greek store) but I'm not certain about south of the bank bldg. on W. 25th. People at Salty Not Sweet said Sat. yes - they're moving to We. 25th by the end of 2010 or so.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
No, the biggest problem is the long gap between buses that go east from the Univ. Rapid Station. The 35-minute gap in 32's leaving the station during rush hour! is outragious - nothing between 5:21 p.m. and 5:56 p.m. :x

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Has anyone heard or know anything about the ugly rumor that, starting in December of this year, the HealthLine order will change from Univ. Rapid/Sokes/Univ. Rapid/Stokes to Stokes/Stokes/Univ. Rapid/Stokes... ???? It had better not happen! :x

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
This is indeed confusing. Is Rosetta going into the building at the corner of E. 6th or the building where the hotel is, which still has the bank lobby and has or did have the NCB sign on the east side? That's the one with the Maron's penthouse and I thought Rosetta is going into that bldg. next to the penthouse, on the Vincent side.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Yes, it really has been a dumb space all these years. An uncomfortable space, so to speak.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
The unbroken wall is still there separating the construction area from the narrow hallway that has the exhibit. Wish they'd do away with the wall had have a wider, more inviting space for all those who pass through there every day. Whatever they're constructing could perhaps off that enlarged interior space. I've always thought that corridor is one of the dumbest spaces in downtown Cleveland. Most of the time there were just blank walls on both sides. Sometimes there has been an exhibit along the northern wall, such as there is now, which does make a difference.

I'm referring to the first floor of the 1980s PNC building - to the east of the entrance right by the sidewalk. Rosetta is going to the old NCB building - to the roof area, if I recall. I think that construction is going on, too, because of the street's being closed off.

New retail? I'd say very unlikely. Unless the whole exterior facade is changed, this space has no exterior entrances so it would have to be a shop or shops off the lobby space. I'd assume this is just PNC-related offices going in. I did ask someone in the take-out place but - not suprisingly - she knew nothing. Yes, I'd really, really like to see more decent stores on the street!

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Never mind what the Amish-related business was (I passed it Sat. and couldn't tell). Let's get on with it: What the Deuce is going on with the last vacant space on E. 4th? No sign of anything new whatsoever when one peers in there. Kind of a mess.

Does anyone know what's been going on at Dunham Tavern? I thought they were finally repainting it. They had scaffolding on the right side and it looked like paint was chipped off the front window frames, but the scaffolding is gone and the front and side clapboards still have several tones of body color due apparently to poor paint matching. I see no sign of work being done each day. Are there still plans to demolish the ugly hulk to the tavern's left? The mural adds something positive but it's still a huge eyesore. And I mean HUGE. Sure I would have liked it rehabbed but I think that ship has sailed....

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Sure Chinato may be doing well but I think a decent sign, that would be seen for some distance (like the other signs on the street), will bring still more customers. One nice thing about the street is the wide variety in restaurants (various sizes, cultures, and price ranges ) yet everyone, except one, cooperating - so to speak - in investing something to show they are part of this uniqute Cleveland district. All signs are unique but creative and reflect each's individual restaurant style.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
In the Chinato's case there is actually some business sense involved, as the place is one of the two Prospect gates to the district and a sign that juts out - the style for that particular restaurant row - would make the place be seen from each direction. Maybe people walking up from Euclid, for example, will not see the location of Chinato's until very close, and they'd decide to hit a restaurant to the north, while if they may have heard of Chinato's and be reminded of its location they might head up to that place were they to see the sign. It also sort of offers an "inferior" image to the restaurant than its neighbors have. The other places - even the small coffee house - have more interesting signs that make the places look more inviting. If the signage "marketing tool" seems silly to some I can only say it may not take much for one to decide one restaurant over another in a district like that....
