  1. Wups; I meant to attach the study, but I see someone else did.
  2. This is the study, from last year. Let's keep in mind the study did not propose real traffic circles but small pavements in the center of the residential street as a traffic calming measure.
  3. Does anyone else think the plan to construct a whole series - is it seven? - of tiny traffic circles (one could say "islands") all the way down Franklin Boulevard in and past Ohio city is kinda dumb? I really like bringing back Franklin Circle (I wonder if any of the old brick from the old circle will be retained) and changing the speed from 35 mph to 25 mph is fine but all these little circles? Does anyone know of a street in Greater Cleveland where many islands have been added in like manner? I'm referring to a residential street, of course. I'd like to drive there and see what it's like.
  4. You're counting to the very top, no matter how unfinished? I count 20 with the glass plus 14 - with the plastic, etc.
  5. It's a 1920s Beaux Arts luxury commercial look. Fifth Avenue, North Michigan, etc. Most cities have one or two, thank goodness, in their downtowns. We have more, including in some suburbs, but these are particularly urban and in the "right location."
  6. It's reached 34th so almost time for the flag, or tree - whatever is done nowadays!
  7. No balustrade shown in prospective image on sign displayed....
  8. So it looks like the farthest east building had some decoration in 1929 but the facade is being rebuilt without it. That's too bad.
  9. For this particular building, in this one spot, I think it's great!
  10. Beacon NOT in Playhouse Square....
  11. Ansel Road once had a row of rather upscale apr. bldgs.; some still stand, fortunately.
  12. I'd like to see that balustrade rebuilt!
  13. Yes, that's s different shot of the one in Johannesen's book and reveals there was a side street there. How about the original facades. to the east?
  14. Can anyone post a photo revealing how these buildings looked originally? I know Eric Johannesen's book on Cleveland architecture shows one. Were these facades all remodeled in the '20s?
  15. I really like the parking garage and I really like the apartment tower, but I'm having a tough time finding any real design/aesthetic connection. Does anyone else feel that way? What was the argument that made it get approved by the design review committee?
  16. Yes, part of this has to do when each city has grown the most. For example Cleveland was larger than Atlanta, the big Texas cities, Denver, Toronto, or Seattle until recent decades, and it shows. It was larger than Detroit until the 1910s and smaller than Cincinnati until the 1890s. Youngstown used to be larger than Akron, and I think that's reflected in Youngstown's having a better art muséum. Of course, there are exceptions.
  17. Does anyone recall the Guvnor's Pub, that used to be on the lower level of the East Ninth side of the building? My dining room fixture is said to have been from there, and I haven't found any useful photos of the restaurant's interior.
  18. Does anyone know if all the windows will retain that unusual gray-blue color? They need to be painted anyway, for a first-class renovation.
  19. I'm so glad to see the signs are up on Fulton north of Lorain and resurfacing is set to begin 10/7!
  20. I'm thinking they'll try to get away with not painting the remainder of the windows. Why would they have stopped in mid-summer? However, the two colors, with the old and discolored brown paint, certainly distract from any first-class renovation. Meanwhile, the deep blue with gold highlights on East Twelfth is gorgeous....
  21. This is all so disappointing. I had thought interior work was going on all these months. The corridors have been closed off so long and Rickey Tanno's has been gone for so long. I assume the salon has too.
  22. Do you think the work on Fulton north of Lorain will yet begin this year?
  23. Thanks very much, though I hope they don't close off W. 38th.
  24. So was anyone here at the church meeting last evening devoted to the plans for Franklin Circle? Anything of special interest to report?
