Daytonnati Early Predictions (circa 1970)
Believe it or not, I believe that somewhere in ODOT they are still trying to do something like that. However, the new plan would be to simply widen Bethany Road and Mason-Morrow-Milgrove road to a massive 8 lanes or so and install an I-71 and Mason-Morrow-Milgrove road interchange. So, the interchange would also connect South Lebanon into all of this as well. I'm sure the plan has been scrapped if there ever was one, since this was only a rumor, but it may be a doable project in the near future. I think that Mr. Sparkle was half-right that 741 was connected to I-71, but I-71 and I-75 were never connected.

Monroe: Cincinnati Premium Outlet
I dunno... Columbus and S.E. Ohio has to get cheap crap somewhere, and I am sure that most would rather go to Jeffersonville than Monroe. Also, does anyone know how big Jeffersonville outlet mall is? I think it might be around 600,000-700,000 sq. ft. vs the Monroe mall's 400,000 sq. ft. To put that in perspective, that is only the size of two Wal-marts or Meijers, and 130,000 sq. ft. short of Towne Mall 3 miles up the street. This is not all that big of a project, and I doubt that it will contain such stores as the Williams Sonoma/Pottery Barn outlet, Nike outlet, or the Brooks Brothers outlet. Jeffersonville might have to downsize, but I doubt that it will go away.

Gosh dangit, I was hoping that people would actually be able to see this picture without having to click on the "view image" icon. I'm a tad bit computer illiterate, but I'm learning.

Logan Square
Awesome Tour! Seriously, though, how could anyone consider living in the 'burbs after that thread? I have been in southside replica of the area, Stony Island/Jackson Park, (just a few blocks from the University of Chicago and Barack Obama's house) and it was beautiful, especially with the lake and the Museum of Science and Industry. Also, driving on Stony Island was the first time that I have ever seen anyone attempt to sell bottled water in the middle of a street before, so that was kinda cool. If anyone here is considering driving to downtown Chicago anytime soon, I would highly suggest taking Stony Island up to Lakeshore and going into town that way, because it is an awesome drive, and with the Dan Ryan under construction, it is a faster alternative during most times of the day.

Wow, this comment looks really bad now that I put that Fox News image up.

Boycott Dayton
I was tempted to call the creator of the blog a moron, but I figured it wasn't worth the energy. Seriously, though, this blog is the most moronic thing I have ever seen. Don't hate cities, hate people!

Cincinnati-Dayton Megalopolis
Anyone know if there are going to do a light-rail line between cincy and dayton? It might work if they ran it from airport to airport, and past some major places like downtown Cincy, Dayton, Middletown, and Hamilton, WPAFB, UC/XAVIER/UD/Sinclair, Cincy zoo/Kings Island, malls, Lexis/Nexis, etc. I think that it migh actually be effective if it was just one straight line that connected a lot of large destinations even if it was a tad bit twisty and turny.

Dayton: Grafton Hill / McPhersontown / Five Oaks: Development and News
Normally I would agree, but in this case, Dayton doesn't really have a high end condo highrise overlooking the river and I think that may be very attractive to young professionals working in the CBD. I hope it goes through! It would be awesome for Dayton if it did happen.

Cincinnati-Dayton Megalopolis
Not quite...Dayton / nati And on top of all of that the entire name of Dayton is in the name with only the ending to Cincinnati. Why not just write it like this then... Daytonnati But like I said...it is a irrelevant point. No ones name is changing...just adding a hyphen. Think of it like Cincinnati and Dayton getting married, but both want to keep their name...hence the hyphen! This thread's back up. Cool. Anyways, if you guys haven't realized yet, this thread was one of the reasons why I started doing this, and this post is where my name stems from. Also, if anyone knows how to change user names, let me know. I wlould like it to look something like this:

The New Suburban Gothic: Dayton after Peak Oil?
Anyone know how the Salem Mall redevelopment/Landmark thing is going? I'm guessing not good at the moment, but I also hope that I am wrong.

Nope. I'm sorry, but Tri-County gives me the creeps. Reminds me too much of Salem.

Nope, agree with Boreal completely. I would move to Canada or west of the Mississippi before I would live south of Kentucky (minus Florida)

The (ugh) Lifestyle Center Thread
So, how is the new lifestyle center(s) in your region doing? Personally, I always wonder who actually spends money at these places. The only thing they are good for ia a few decent restraunts and stores. The rest, in my opinion, is just a bunch of mall crap that I would rather see IN A MALL, because I would rather not freeze my butt off this winter trying to do Christmas shopping while walking through rain and snow to get from store to store. However, I may be wrong. I know that Dayton's lifestyle center, The Greene, has some cool, locally-owned shops. Your Thoughts?

Cincinnati Mills
If only it was just a few miles northeast... Still, I think the mall's main problem was the fact that it did NOT steal away Dillards, Sears, Macy's, and the now-defunct JC Penney from Tri-County. The lack of practical, traditional, and well-known stores when they were all located less than 10 miles away in either direction on 275 was surely was caused the mall to fail. Personally, I think that Tri-county should pack up and move over there, because it is by far the more aesthetically-pleasing mall. It is also newer, and the surrounding area is in better condition. If the mall ever got some decent stores that most everyone shops at (like Sears, Macy's, Elder-Beerman which it had at one time but was out of place, etc.), Tri-County would be dead. Now we are just waiting for the day when a mall-like thing is built to serve the West Chester/Mason area that will kill Tri-County. I am looking forward to that day.

Dayton: NCR
Maybe this is just me, but am I the only one who thinks of the stepford wives after reading these Peachtree, Georgia posts? Anyways, that not the topic, but it may make a cool pictures thread. Still, though, these are good NCR jobs that are going to Atlanta, and this trend doesn't make me too happy, especially since I am sure that the City of Dayton would have offered incentives out the wazoo if the jobs would have stayed here. With this economic climate, Ohio can't afford to lose any jobs, even low-paying ones.

Dayton: NCR
NCR relocation to cost 40 to 50 local jobs Dayton Business Journal NCR Corp. will move parts of its global customer service operations to Georgia, costing 40 to 50 Dayton area jobs. Including Dayton, the jobs will be moved from a combination of locations, including Columbia, S.C. and Winnipeg, Canada. The move will create 916 jobs in Georgia over the next two years. The headquarters for NCR’s Worldwide Customer Services business will also be put in Georgia. ... __________________________________________________________________ Ellen Belcher: Ohio, Dayton got shut out in NCR move By Ellen Belcher Sunday, November 02, 2008 The Dayton region is always on red alert for other states trying to pick off work from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. There's a network of people who like working at the base, or who used to work there and still live here, or whose job it is to know what's going on in the Air Force; they all keep in touch. When there's a hint somebody is trying to poach people or projects, they spring into action. ...

Arts Scene can and does set Dayton apart
I know this is extremely off-topic, but do you guys think that they will turn the stony hollow landfill into a ski resort a la Mad River Mountain? If they did, that would be awesome! The end quote in the editorial reminded me of this.
