  1. ^Only problem with this "mall" is that is only the size of roughly two Wal-Marts, or just barely over the size of Ikea and slightly under the size of Towne Mall an exit away. I truly don't think that they can bring in a high enough volume of stores to make this a true "destination shopping", and instead, it will be treated like a third flea market. There is a pretty impressive selection of stores for a project its size, but nothing like Jeffersonville. If another "real mall" (not a lifestyle center) does come to the region in the next decade or so, this one WILL become a true flea market for sure. (I have a feeling that traditional malls will pick up some steam after this recession wears off, because if you're not going to be shopping in a real downtown, you might as well not be freezing your butt off walking from store to store in a fake one) I just hope they expand Towme Mall to the size of a normal mall so that it can truly compete in the area. Despite the fact it's in suburbia, I know form living there that there needs to be a mall, because Tri-County is truly a piece of crap. (sorry)
  2. Okay, some decent-ish stuff, but it's not going to even be able to touch Jeffersonville with its Pottery Barn/ Williams Sonoma outlet. Still, that area is so desperate for a mall that I think this will suffice (not exactly the most urban and Dayton-conscious post that I would like to be writing, but oh well. Still have strong ties to Monroe myself)
  3. ^Also would argue against Houston being stable. An extremely large portion of their industry is oil-related. If alternative fuels ever happen.... Then Houston will be hurting (Imagine Detroit with a strong latino influence)
  4. Chicago isn't exactly rooted in the auto industry, either. Hopefully he has spent some time in Detroit or Gary, because it will truly show you what kinds of problems we face. However, I think he will make smart, rational(sp?) decisions. We might be hurting for the next decade or so, but I do have full faith that he will give us a path to a new industry.
  5. ^^maybe Canada would like us, eh? We DO have a lot more in common with southern Onatrio than Georgia, Bos-Wash, Texas, Portland/Seattle, or California, along with other major population regions such as southern Florida or Phoenix. If we were lucky, we could even be speaking French right now  :yap:
  6. Oh well.... Guess maybe we can recrute another team, or should we move it to abadoned projects? ______________________________________________________________________________ Dayton Bombers Shutting Down Monday, March 30, 2009, 5:09pm EDT The Dayton Bombers are ceasing operations and will not play next season, league officials confirmed Monday. Brian McKenna, commissioner of the ECHL, the AA hockey league the Bombers have played in since 1990, said the Bombers and owner Costa Papista filed all necessary paperwork and notified the league it would not be playing in the 2009-2010 season. McKenna said the decision means the team will cease operations and will not be sold because there is nothing to sell. Papista could not be reached for comment, but Erin Falcon, director of business operations for the local hockey team, confirmed the team would not play next year. The Bombers posted a combined attendance of 132,454 over 36 games this season, for an average of 3,679 per game, according to league data. The attendance is up somewhat from last year’s season, which saw 3,663 average per game and 2006-207 which saw a 3,644 average. McKenna said the team had been financially struggling for some time and things worsened because of the economy. The decision to no longer participate in the league was a team decision, he added. 7. Soory to come by late, but nice thread. 8-) Also, Westland makes me wonder if some malls actually have a future being "recycled' into second and third tier occupants, like the Karate class and BMV like you mentioned. You could also throw in Lazer Tag, a ginormous Arcade, a couple of other low-rent options like hobby/craft stores and 'bargin chains" like Burlington Coat Factory and Big Lots, and BOOM! you have a redneck mall. Seems like these types of stores are working somewhat at Westland in the mall atmosphere, so maybe demolition and wasting all of those resources is a bad idea, because many of these shops would push sprawl further by building new locations elsewhere. I always still wish old Salem Mall back in Trotwood was still around when I look at these "dead mall" threads, but oh well. It was nice back in the day.
  8. ^Cool. At least this is a decent plan. Also think it's interesting how the focus of downtown redevelopment has changed from the eastern edge of downtown/Webster station to the southern/Terra Cotta-ish area. BPV to blame?
  9. It's the finest dead mall you'll ever see. What a waste!
  10. Alright, I am going to say that I truly LOVE this proposal. With 3-C in the mix, along with a hockey arena, I can really see this happening. Dayton probably has the most potential of any Ohio cities to become something really cool, due to our immense, unused resources and history, but obviously the main questions: 1. Where's the money? 2. How long until construction starts? 3. Will construction ever start, or is this just another "plan"? (still, glad you found out about this Jeffery. This stuff is great!)
  11. Didn't realize how well the Dayton area was represented. Cool.
  12. I think they are called "whiggers"? Generally, I believe it can be classified by as any "white" person who acts like they are "gangsta" or "ghetto", but the wonderful posters at Urban Dictionary below came up with these first few results for Jeffery's version of spelling the word: _______________________________________________________________________________ 1. Whigger 264 up, 38 down A disparaging term used to describe a Caucasian person that mimics ghetto and urban vernacular. More commonly used to describe those Caucasians whose only contact with popular urban culture is the entertainment media. A poseur. The wigger thought all the black kids at school would be his friend because his mother bought him the latest pair of Jordans. by Venessa Nina Dec 26, 2002 share this 2. Whigger 221 up, 58 down Whi(te-ni)gger need I say more? I do? Ok then.. Stupid little white boys from the suburbs (rich kids) pretending to be from the "ghetto" and to be "hard". They wear fubu (for us by us, am I the only one to find the irony in this), Ecko Unlimited, shady ltd, sean john, and other nigger/whigger brands of clothes and pretend to be niggers. They speak broken ebonics, walk slow, wear baggy sweatpants, and have a habit to grab their crotch. They usually are really pail and try (and mostly fail miserably) to rap and "ball" They listen to (edited here- you CANNOT diss rap music. Ever.) rap music and often think that they're actually tough, with their "peeps" and often get their asses kicked by real niggers and white people. They often speak broken ebonics, and are a logical equivilant to retarded. See also Wigger (the words are pronounced the same, but have 2 different meanings, Wigger can be used for any nonblack person who acts nigger-ish, whigger is for white people only). Whigger: I so blak yo. me n mi peeps r guna chll ltr at mikes hous. Me: SPEAK ENGLISH YOU RETARD Whigger: yo, u so wite foshizzle. Me: And so are you, you tard, now speak plain english, whiety. Whigger: yo, wai u getin up n mi gril yo? Me: f$&k you, you faggot whigger *I kick his ass* nigger wigger retard rap whiteboy by Racist Rob Mar 8, 2006 share this ______________________________________________________________________ ^ Hopefully I'm not the only one that thought some parts of the second definition were somewhat amusing (although I'm pretty sure that the poster WOULD get his a** beat by the "whigger", because he is a racist and has it coming). The suckish thing about being white (like myself, unfortunately) is that you CANNOT pull off acting like you are black, I do not care who you are. They are way cooler than crakers like myself could ever hope to be, so why try?

  14. ^They could just blare rap music 24/7. I know I would come by. Sort the weak from the strong!

I thought this editorial the DDN put out on saturday sums Boehner up nicely. _______________________________________________________________________________ Editorial: Boehner flounders for role other than ‘no’ By the Dayton Daily News | Friday, March 13, 2009, 08:08 PM Bob Schieffer, of CBS: “Why do you think that it’s a good idea to just simply freeze spending?” John Boehner, R-West Chester, U.S. House Republican leader: “Well, because I think if you look around the country, our economy is struggling. American families are tightening their belt, but they don’t see government tightening its belt.
  16. ^^ Very nice!!!!!
  17. Trust me, if Cincy mills ever would have stole those stores from Tri-County, we wouldn't be having this conversation!
  18. Thats the funny/sad thing about the Dayton suburban thing, the resolute-to-the-point-of-absurdity refusal to identify in the city...even when on vacation. I don't know about that one. I find that MANY people from the Dayton area out of town say "Oh, I'm from Dayton" when infact, they're from Anna, Botkins, Piqua, or even Springfield. If anything, I'm frustrated that these people claim Dayton when infact they probably don't even know how to get to JJ's Fish & Shrimp. Agreed. I live in the north hinterlands and I'm here, aren't I? (also used to live in a little area now known as northern West Chester, as well, and I still thought of myself as living in the Dayton area)
  19. Trust me, it an't easy defending Dayton, especially out in OUR OWN SUBURBS, WHICH CANNOT SEE ANY BENEFIT OF THE CITY WHATSOEVER!!!!! It's honestly ridiculous and dispicable, and most suburbanites actually have a strong, pent-up hate toward the center city, like it was their ex-girlfriend or something. I don't get it.
  20. There are actually a lot of oddball pockets of rolling hills and streams scattered throughout SW Ohio, by places like Oxford, Camden, portions of southeast Miami county (by Charleston Falls) , West Oakwood, spotty areas along the Stillwater river, and by the Ohio River in many places. Odd, yes, but it does exist.
  21. ^ Agreed that 33.3 mil was way high for the property in these times. Again, probably the "dead" referencing was toward the pathetic middle strip of the center with stores like Lane Bryant and Verizon wireless that are set up in a walkable,lifestyle-center style pattern. However, I do know that the center is a HUGE draw for many people that do not want to put up with the Tylersville road crap. However, if they live close to Monroe like I used to, they will find that shopping in Middletown is ALWAYS the best option.
