Cleveland: Calfee Building (Rockwell and East 6th)
You're right KJP, to a certain extent that concrete does best around 50 degrees, but concrete can be placed in colder weather if special considerations are taken, such as temporarily heating the space, or more commonly (cheaper) to cover the pour with concrete blankets. The thickness of the pour is also a key consideration. I don't have any inside information on this particular project, but like everyone else, I too hope they can begin working on other projects and soon.

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
Thanks for the postcard pictures. Are any of the buildings from the postcards still visible today? The second one especially shows how completely different Cleveland used to be...

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
For place that is looking so incredible (cool aquarium, great historic building), I'm surprised how little we're hearing about this project?

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Metal studs on these types of buildings are very common, and certainly don't reflect the developer being "cheap" in any way. Steel studs are generally faster than wood framing, but also always straight (no warped lumber), which provides for better interior finishes.

Some pictures today of the remnants of the demo'd parking garage.

Cleveland: Richman Bros. Site Re-Development
Here's a link to the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History about the Richman Brothers Co. It appears the distribution center portion closed there in 1992. http://ech.cwru.edu/ech-cgi/article.pl?id=RBC

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Clearly not the right spot for discussion here, but on the list of major impending Cleveland projects, what about the Innerbelt Bridge and reconstruction? The bridge itself is $400M and will probably be the most visible construction project in town (somewhat unfortunately, because of traffic delays...).

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Not much left of the Corlett building... (sorry about the poor picture quality; its all I had).

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
Here are some pics of the progress at 668. On the one hand, still a long way to go; on the other, such a vast improvement already!

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
I drove down Euclid yesterday with the sole intent to see how work was progressing on this building, and even though I knew it coming up, I still caught myself saying "whoa! This is awesome!" Here are some pics for everyone else's enjoyment as well. Are those new windows going in on the 6th floor? Also, its great to see the contrast between the classic brick and the hideous covering.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
It looks like the main interior space for Wyse is out for bid, and the due date for that bid is March 20, 2009. I don't know when construction would begin or end, but at least something seems to be moving forward! The description says "Scope of Work: 25,000 sq ft corportate headquarters located on the first floor."

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
I had heard that the Corlette is NOT on the National Register yet, or perhaps only part of it is. Sorry for the confusion, but the clear indication I got was that it is not yet fully protected, and thus needs to be torn down quickly for CSU to avoid that fight. This project is already fully funded by the University. For a bit of good news, the renderings and final use of the property seems to be very good for Euclid Ave and CSU in general.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
I recently posted that the Corlette Building on CSU's campus is scheduled to be demolished soon. Here's some more information that I heard, from a reliable source: It sounded like CSU was worried the City would push the building as a landmark and thus make it difficult to tear down, so they were hurrying to demolish it soon (demo to begin at end of March). But after the demolition, the site will be temporarily used as a gravel lot for contractor parking. The site eventually will be the site of an outdoor music pavilion of sorts, then someday a permanent performance building, supposedly 4-5 years from now. Supposedly, a study was done (not sure by whom) that claimed it would cost $40 million to renovate the Corlette Building. The outside terra cotta is indeed beautiful, but even for me, the inside was nothing special and really in dismal shape and nothing special architecturally inside.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
FYI - The Corlette Building on CSU's campus is apparently scheduled to be demolished soon. The prebid meeting is Jan 21st and the bid opening is Feb 6th; I don't know when the actual demolition would begin. (Mods - this might be better/also posted in the CSU forum?)

Cleveland: Random Development and News
First time poster, long time reader. The Independent Towel Building is coming down and it was bid as an ODOT job, so one might presume it is for the eventual Innerbelt project (getting the demo done now, so its ready to go later). Another building demo was bid at the same time near the I-90/W. 14th exit ramp - the warehouse with the child's face mural on the south side. They just tore down some small buildings in front (south side) and I saw some aerials lifts on the north side last week, perhaps prepping that building for demo next? The Independent Towel building didn't "look" very good just prior to demo, but now that all the ugly windows are gone and you can see only the brick architecture, its not hard to imagine how cool a building like that (with iconic smokestack) could have been...
