Cincinnati: Western Hills: Development and News
If it is anything like the most recent ODOT project regarding fixing an intersection with trains (747 grade separation), it could have been several years before the bridge went down. I can tell you for a fact (I have the construction drawing), that the latest traffic signal was modified to its current state in the early 90s. If you are really interested, when I get home I can post the exact date associated with that drawing.

^The CUF meeting this month certainly implied that they had the insurance to completely replace the steeples to as they were. If that will actually be done is anyone's guess.

That made me laugh. I guess the good reason was that the motorcoach companies bought the railway companies with the intention of running them into the ground so that their mode of transportation would prevail. Not exactly a result of public sentiment, or a good reason in my book.

I remember the bridge, so it has be be later than '85. I want to say it was really close to 1990.

Cincinnati: Red-light cameras
Red Light Cameras increase the likelihood of Motorists hitting the brakes hard when they should in fact safely coast through an intersection. This sudden braking increases the likelihood of rear end collisions. That's the safety argument. The "Americans are paranoid" argument is that red light cameras are a manifestation of Big Brother watching you, but everyone knows that the administration of Oceania started watching us from space years ago.

Yeah, just for school. I've seen the ODOT plans though for the short term improvements, but I didn't think to look at ROW takes. But yeah, I did something for school. There is more to the story I guess than what we were told when we were given the class project, but I know not of ODOT's total plans, and due what happens when people see unofficial plans or recommendations, I can't really talk about it, either.

I can assure you that Wagon Wheel will not be torn down in any improvements that are to be made to the intersection. It is a historic establishment that should protect it from the wrath of consultants. It also should be noted that thankfully in this day and age a major part of an engineering project is community justice, and ensuring that we do not wrong the community. Also, one of my senior projects involved recommending and designing mock improvements for the intersection, so I have a pretty good idea of what needs to go in there. The improvements scheduled to be done this year are minor improvements intended to rebuild the signal and eliminate the channelizing islands. I would think that it should not destroy the building. Edit: I should have read your comments in more detail, how do you know they are demoing the property?

I'd love for Cranley to question road projects the way he questions this project. It would be good for the a city where the residential modes of transportation happen only on rubber tires.

Words can't describe the importance of showing up on Monday. I want to be there; however, a job interview keeps me from being there, and it really, really pains me. This project is probably the most important project that Cincinnati has considered in a very long time, even more important than the Banks. Oh how I wish, I want to be there on Monday. I may not be able to be there Monday, but I'll defend this project to death. Words can not describe how important I think this project is for the city and region.

I have a nice letter written, I hope I don't have to send it. Campaign! Campaign! Campaign! Don't let this turn into a turnover.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: Old St. George Redevelopment
I attended the CUF meeting tonight, it was announced that the insurance companies are on site, and they are looking into how to get the steeples back to their original appearance. They noted that the insurance on the building was actually really good. (To much applause) Also, damage to the building was stated to be limited to the steeples. Good news for the rest of the building.

Reading their comments make me sick. I can name so much "waste" in their necks of the woods. Liberty Interchange? 75 Widening through Butler / Warren County? People need to open their eyes in the burbs. Perhaps $6 gas will do such a thing... when does the petroleum problem go from being a nuisance to a huge problem? It may be sooner than we all think. Think multimodally, think creatively, think intelligently.

Oh wow, I can't believe he cut off Mr. Cincinnati. Is that the state of media in Cincinnati? Sadly, I think it is. Can't fight an argument, leverage the button against the argument. There is a reason I stopped listening to 700, and I can see now that my decision to stop listening was justified. Nothing more than a bunch of bumbling radio baffoons. Why not have legitimate discussions? Is it because their listeners are suburban soccer parents? I think it is. I grow tired of their crap. These people (Sloan, McConnell, Willie) have no authority to talk on many issues, and the streetcar is one of them. Stay strong Cincinnati. Be a leader in something that needs to be done. Ask any planner and even some traffic engineers and they'll tell you that a successful city is inclusive of all modes of transportation. Grow the pedestrian mode. Provide alternatives to driving. Such actions will only lead to a healthier city.

This is really, really sad. I just heard about this. So much history. Hopefully the building can be saved.

Sigh, red light cameras and now this. John (Cranley), you should be smarter for where you went to school. But your actions seem to suggest that you can only think for the present. Think for the future, not your own personal gains. Do it for the city you live in, and its future. Do it because you love the city, and you want it do be a great city in the future. Let go of reservations. Just, think for the future.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
To be honest, no. I can't help but think that the final solution for this project will just be continued maintenance of the existing span. Finding $3 billion is going to be difficult, convincing drivers to use tolls will be even harder, especially with a free interstate crossing with the Big Mac Bridge. Hell, they may end up tolling that as well. Let's face it, there are better transportation solutions that 3 billion dollars can be spent on. Think of the possibilities. It could be beautiful.

Western Hamilton County growth issues
I'd love to know where their access is going to be placed. Certainly, North Bend is being upgraded, but I don't believe that at this time North Bend is being widened to 4/5 lanes south of the interchange. Additionally, ODOT will throw a fit regarding any proposed signals between Boomer and 74, so it is likely that any access will have to be unsignalized.

No problem! I know how much fun it can be to completely redesign a website, but it is totally worth it in the end.

The *New* UrbanOhio - SUGGESTIONS
Good job padding the search box from the top of the design. I suggest using a class or style to change the search box to something less generic. Also, I would question whether or not the background image is necessary. Lastly, I would consider a darker gray or something that doesn't strain the eyes for the City Names image. Great design though, you're doing a good job.

Do you mean everywhere but at the original Cedar Fair Properties. Seems as though Cedar Fair, Knott's, ValleyFair!, Dorney Park, and Worlds of Fun all seem to be doing just as well. So, I hear on the grapevine that the Backwards Racer (affectionately known as recaR) is no more. I am really disappointed with that... recaR was always better than Racer. Also, Invertigo is the name of the prototype Inverted Boomerang at California's Great America. It was named Invertigo by Paramount, and I always thought it was better than Face / Off... the Action Zone was an absolutely terrible move.

^If I was the city I'd play the market, you might get a lower interest rate when the possible recession becomes a true recession after the Fed's latest move. On the flip side, the possibly impending recession may make banks and bonding agencies less likely to lend money. So, it's a double edged sword.

Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Projects & News
Priorities. Also, Phase 1 of Rybolt was supposed to be finished by the end of last year. It has to do with securing funding and mobilizing the workforce. I know at least for Sunesis they were preoccupied with Mulhauser and UCB in Butler County, I don't know what's going on with the Ramp Meters.

Western Hamilton County growth issues
This area was supposed to be a medical complex. I don't know what happened to it, but if you look at the access road it looks as though it was poorly designed, as the base course of roadway that exists on the site has shown signs of land subsidence. It's possible that there is a second go at this site. It should also be mentioned that the realignment of Rybolt is supposed to open up some developable land. I'm not really sure how, but perhaps when Imperial House transforms into a Holiday Inn Express they'll vacate some buildings on the site. If you haven't seen what Rybolt will look like in the end, it can be found here. Access Management is here to stay. Around interchanges, there are extremely stringent access management requirements per ODOT. Combined with the Hamilton County Access Management Regulations, you see what was designed at Harrison Avenue. As for "what if this project was actually at North Bend," well, I would say that aside from Behind Bob Evan's that interchange is pretty much built out. Perhaps this complex could be south of Boomer.
