  1. Nope, but on the right side of town. (West)
  2. I actually didn't need to guess, I lived in the heights, and frequently drove down Auburn (Sycamore) to Liberty St. One day I looked to the side and saw the apartments, and thought that was pretty cool since they are (were) on Haunted Ohio. http://local.google.com/?t=k&ll=39.153526,-84.795522&spn=0.002795,0.004946&t=k Has anyone else noted that Google Local takes a lot longer to switch between view levels?
  3. Wow, it's back from the dead. Those are the currently abandoned Glencoe Apartments, apparently one of the more haunted places in the area.
  4. The guy who invented the radar detector lives in Cincinnati. Incidentally, I also believe he invented the radar gun.
  5. Good to see tat HOP-A moved forward and that all but one roundabout option was thrown out. I hope they end up choosing the 5/4 continuity, as right now from Hopple to 74 it is a bottleneck during rush hour. Additionally, there is a potential bottleneck on 74 between 74 and Colerain Ave caused by weaving. Not a big deal right now, but I can imagine that as traffic on 74 increases (and it likely will), that the weave situation will only get worse and worse.
  6. It almost feels as though Green Township is trying to leverage its power to get more land for its Benken park, amongst other things. Selling back to the township 35-40 acres is a lot of land. Will they want to do that? Perhaps that could be used as leverage for something as atrocious as a Super Walmart, which could be used to redevelop Manchester Plaza rather than tear up undisturbed property. I guess will find out the plans in 45 days or less.
  7. It would be quite the catch for a company who has focused on slow growth. Cedar Fair would have to muster quite a bit of money to pull of a stunt such as buying the parks. It is not as though it isn't possible, but previous quick growth strategies in the Amusement Industry has not worked so well (See Six Flags). I'm sure Cedar Fair could do it, but there would be quite the risk in buying so many properties at the same time. That brings up the question of whether or not CBS will sell them separately, and from what I have heard it was their intention to sell them as a whole. I also remember hearing that an investment firm led by a previous Viacom Executive might try to buy them out. If this falls through, and they decide to sell them separately, then I do hope that Cedar Fair picks up PKI, and performs a clean house of a bunch of people in upper management.
  8. ^ I am fairly certain that Ft Scott will need to have an onsite treatment facility, for there are no sewer lines in that area. When MSD does make it out there, the facility must then be turned over to the MSD from what I understand. I know this is what was done at the subdivision I used to live in down the road in Colerain Township. Personally I am excited and intrigued by what this means for Crosby Township. The construction of Ft Scott will have huge rammifications on the the infrastructure out there. I will bet a large sum of imaginary money that the future of the area around SR 128 and New Haven Rd has commercial corridor written all over it, and this project will expedite that future. I would not be surprised if this development acts as a catalyst for something larger. I hope this development is the begininning of a bright future for Crosby Township and Southwest Local Schools. The tax base from such a project will likely be huge, and I hope that the money generated can increase services throughout the township. I also hope they dedicate some of the money to sprucing up some of the old unicorporated communities.

Colerain Township has 2 very different parts to it. I would consider those parts semi-rural and suburban. The area which you probably think of as going downhill fast is Northbrook/East of Colerain Ave & South of 275. In that case I would have to agree with you, some of this area has become rather depressed, and resembles the rest of the houses in the area. Western/Northern Colerain Township is rather different than than this area, as it is mostly undeveloped. Most developments in this area of the township are few and far between, but when they do occur they are subdivisions with houses ranging from $250K to $300K. These developments, like many developments in Western Hamilton County, are limited by the lack of infrastructure to support them. In addition to the lack of infrastructure, Colerain Township has a zoning policy that a lot of developers feel make it impossible to develop the land for a profit. In this area you will mostly see houses on relatively large tracts of land, farms, open space, or new, cookie cutter subdivisions.
  10. From the OKI 2005 Regional Traffic Counts: HAM024 Brent Spence Bridge (I-71/I-75) ADT: 148928 and during the same time: CAM035 I-471 at OH State Line ADT: 95864
  11. Perhaps I am in the minority, but I really would prefer we explore the options of keeping the Brent Spence intact before considering its demise. Personally I do not think that trusses look all that bad, and from a structural standpoint the bridge, with proper maintenance, could stand for quite a long time. Should the Brent Spence plus new bridge options provide the same level of service, safety and service life as a new bridge(s) would, but would be cheaper than building just new bridges I would hope that we would pick keeping the Brent Spence and not be swayed by what a lot of people consider an ugly truss bridge.
  12. I am currently cooping for a Transportation Engineering Firm located in Mason, Ohio. I also am also halfway through prejunior year in the Civil Engineering program at the University of Cincinnati.
  13. ^ If I remember correctly the entire parcel that Manchester Plaza sits on is owned by the county. It also is 70 some acres, but then a large portion of that sits underneath High Tension Power Lines. Personally I would not want to work under a bunch of lines that give me cancer. In addition, I do not know if the county is looking at redeveloping Manchester Plaza, but the township definitely forsees the center being developed in the future, and studies have been completed that accomodate that. I believe though that these two projects will develop separately of each other, and it would not surprise me in the least if Manchester Plaza gave way to a Walmart, given the atrocious nature and condition of the one in Western Hills.
  14. If that is the case, then I can only imagine that the ramp meters are now part of the ARTIMIS I74 extension, which if I remember correctly is also programmed for 2007.
  15. I wonder what they are trying to get at through this article. I can only imagine that this is a ploy to get more money to fund all the projects, as a lot of people would be very angry if this project derailed. On the alternative, this could stimulate renewed interest in a light rail line, for if the general public realizes that that 75 will never be a nice, tame road, then perhaps then they would be more receptive to other transit options. I don't forsee the Brent Spence Project being derailed by this revelation, but I do see this as a plea for more federal funding, or for the general public to consider approving other transit options. I am sure that they knew from day one that free flow conditions over the bridge are dependent on the connecting networks, and to make this announcement at this point only suggests that they are looking for more funding for their other projects.
  16. I don't think a streetscape would ever work on Colerain, it is too much of a hodgepodge of Development. As for the Wal-Mart, I haven't driven past the Wal-Mart in the Colerain Town Center (near 275), but the reason it is not a supercenter is because a Supercenter is going in on Colerain near Cross-County, and they intend on closing the one near 275.
  17. What do you mean by this statement? Over the last five years there have been many projects done to alleviate problems with Colerain Avenue. Timings were adjusted and signals were coordinated. Prememption Systems keep EMS responses moving. The "Suicide Lane" from Galbraith Road through 275 was eliminated, and in its place turn lanes and a concrete median govern where people can and cannot turn. Right turn lanes were added in stategic places to increase the safety of the intersection. While there has been no widening of the through lanes, there have been great strides to make driving on Colerain a less painful experience, and as someone who has experienced the before and after, it is very noticable. Traffic on Colerain actually flows nowadays, and the improvements completed on this road could very well be used on other arterials that are suffering congestion, while at the same time not completely widening the road in a very developed area. On the topic of Northgate Mall, a streetscape will be an interesting venture, and I can't wait to see what type of tenants they bring in to fill this Upgrade. I just hope that Feldman Properties does not hold the same views about their West Side clientel as Hal Silverman and Co. had when they devised Legacy Place.
  18. Well, that is nice, but I wonder if it implies that they are now going to go for a development that was on the scale of the original site plans, or if it will now become something more modest. Personally I am hoping for something that is more upscale than Target and JCPenney, since it is a slap in the face to call those entities upscale to West Siders, and most of the new residential development going up in the area could actually support an upscale shopping experience, contrary to developer's beliefs that everyone on the West Side is thrifty and enjoys high class shopping at Target. There still are many questions to answer about this development, such as site runoff and retention, and the sheer amount of traffic that this development will create. I think that before anything is built at this site that these issues will have to be addressed.

You know, I live 12 miles from downtown and I still don't have sewer lines, and I am certain that with the exception of the new subdivision up the road there aren't any houses connected to the system. However, you can clearly see where sewer lines and added capacity has just been laid. There are many, many subdivisions going up in Miami and Green Townships, especially around the Rybolt Rd. and Harrison Avenue region, and these new subdivisions generally follow the expansion of the sewer lines from the Taylor Creek facility. However, a lot of things have been learned sewer expansion through the West Side. Given the terrain of the area, sewer line expansion can be rather expensive. I remember the sewer line along Wesselman Rd. going way over budget; however, I do not have an exact figure. If the MSD is going to have huge overruns in running the line then is it really effective to lay them? That is a question that I am sure will be touched on at the next task force meeting. The second thing that can be learned from the sewer expansions is that development does indeed follow the sewer line expansion, and that is made even more clear in this article. This article makes some valid points, but a lot of what it says seems to be obvious. There is a lot of land in Western Hamilton County just waiting to be developed, but it will not see any development until the proper infrastructure is in place. Once that infrastructure is in place it will be interesting to see just how the area develops, since I am sure that in time it will be developed.
  20. Ah the joys of the West side, if 74 is backed up I can take wonderful arterials and collectors such as Harrison, Westwood-Northern, and West Fork into town.and still be at UC quicker than anyone who lives in Mason or West Chester.
  21. I wonder which of the three likely intersections will see roundabouts -- US42&Main, Mason-Montgomery & Main, or Kings Mills & Main. I would bet that the Mason Montgomery/US42 and US42/Main intersections are the interesections proposed to be turned into a roundabout, given that there are rather large backups through the Main St. corridor during the peak periods in its current arrangement, and it has long been desired of Mason to allow left turns from US42 onto the Non-42 part of Main St. I wish I could have seen the plans though since I work in for a firm that happens to be located on Main St. On-street parking does interest me though, as currently Main Street is marked so that there is one through lane in each direction and also a center lane that is used for left turns. I would think that unless every driveway that is currently located on Main Street is either destroyed, signalized, or given indirect access to a signalized intersection then removing the center lane and adding parking could create gridlock such as the congestion that exists today. As for other aspects of the plan, I can't comment on since I know little of it, so I'll stick to my traffic comments. The only issue that could come up elsewhere is about the rights of the business owners and property owners that don't mesh with the vision of Mason. Will Angilo's pizza get to stay downtown, or is it too low class of a restaurant? Will dentist offices be displaced for Starbucks or the Gap? Those are questions that Mason will have to answer in order to placate its existing downtown residents.
  22. To Grasscat, correct, your turn To atlas, I've been to Miami Whitewater many times and been around the Shaker Trace many times, but I've never understood why the Shaker Trace is named as such. Upon some research, it appears that there is a Shaker Villiage actually located within the park near the top of the outer loop, called the White Water Shaker Villiage.
