  1. Pesht is pretty much what I'd want to see there. And it might be cool to take boating access one step further and do some kind of canal system, with lots of happy little bridges.
  2. It doesn't seem that hard not to blow it. Just build city. It's really quite simple. Where we get lost is all this "I can do more than just build city" nonsense. That part about the iconic experience scares me and I don't know why. The city and its landscape should take care of your iconic experience... it shouldn't have much to do with what's built on the port site. I kind of hope that whatever gets done involves very little greenspace. I may be in the minority on this, but I think we have plenty of lakefront greenspace. We need buildings, lots of buildings, built close together. The waterfront should still be accessible, i.e. not a gated community, but I don't think it needs to be lined with grassland to allow for that.
  3. My roommate's bike was stolen out of our garage in Lakewood last summer.
  4. That makes sense. I'm cool with the buildings down there being nondescript compared to the rock hall. I just hope they don't overcompensate and give us generic. They do seem to understand the wind conditions, which one must give them credit for.
  5. It was just a bad joke. They do have a nice football field. There's a picrure of Paul Brown on the scoreboard that lights up.
  6. I hope the "we don't want iconic buildings" bit applied to NYC and not here. We could use a few more iconic buildings. And our downtown has enough "spaces" already.
  7. And why did they drive there from Massillon? Classic case of crime coming in from the exurbs...
  8. This is something that should come up during municipal elections, but I don't know that it ever does.
  9. I think you can look at Cleveland as a whole and intuit that the public here doesn't go out of its way to protect buildings, regardless of quality or historical merit. It shouldn't require 100 people to endanger their jobs and form a picket line. The city needs a mechanism to stand up for historic buildings. I'm sure they have one, of some kind, but this is an example of how it doesn't work so well. This is one of the reasons people have governments. Historic structures don't fight for themselves, and few have built-in constituencies. I'm sure someone can use the space in that building at some point. Maybe it won't be the Clinic. Being based a few blocks away does not give the Clinic god-like powers over this parcel. Neither does ownership.
  10. ^ I've been hoping they would just forget to tear those down.
  11. When is Commander BRT's contract up with RTA? In each instance of possible BRT, I would rather use that money to get rail closer to shovel-ready. I can't be the only one thinking this.
  12. As I understand it, it's like lacrosse except you're all driving bumper cars.
  13. It looks like the area was always industrial. So why was that built there in the first place? Regardless, it doesn't seem compatible with what's to come.
  14. Agreed! Indeed.

Yeah, I don't get it. That looks like Columbus.

That's good but it lacks the impact of our girl, who is not only shocked but kind of happy about it.

There's more use in the inner city, but suburban use is underreported. Suburban crackheads don't rob people for crack money because they already have all the crack money they need. And they tend to binge more, while inner city crackheads are gooned up on a steadier basis.
  18. No. I bet MTS can.
  19. There is such a thread, and it has some cool color-coded maps in it. I really just wanted to follow up on your point about the BRT and red line being redundant. That seemed sufficiently meta. I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition.
  20. I still don't want to be the first/only city to have this system, because it makes us look dumb. These pole-items, are they monitors or audio warnings or both? That does seem like a much better plan, better than having every bus beep at every stop and corner throughout town.

Kentucky is the universal stand-in for all things laughably rural. The word itself is funny sounding. Incidentally, it originally referred to an especially fertile hunting ground that all eastern tribes could use but none could possess. So it kinda means "so desirable it has to be shared."
  22. I've been on the other end of government "suggestion boxes," and I think posting something here for these two to read is more effective.

It depends on the drug. A lot of US pot, whether urban or suburban, comes from Mexico. The rest of it is locally grown. The locally grown stuff is a significant factor in the market, especially at the higher end. The harder and more tropical drugs work like Kingfish just said. Suburban kids link into the inner city distribution network.
  24. ^ Thank you for setting some guidelines about this thread. I was about to start a thread just about the beeping problem, since it seemed to have a life of its own. Then again, that seems played out. Everyone appears to be unanimously anti-beeping, and I don't see how it could be any more clear how poorly that's been recieved. Please Jerry, let them know.
  25. see...you're taking it off topic... there is no need to do that. Well good morning to you too. Several people were discussing this in this thread before you came along. You confronted me, and I asked two questions in return. You answered neither. 1) Is there a thread for BRT's effect on the red line and what to do about it? 2) What does "Great Cleveland RTA Thread" mean? If I remember right it's a merger of several old threads, set up as a catch-all. Nobody has a problem moving a discussion to a more appropriate thread. But don't act like I'm talking RTA in a thread about bathroom fixtures. I think last week you accused someone of taking the "Off Topic" thread off topic. Now why don't you just sit back and have a pleasant Friday.
