The artwork at the playhouse square station appears to be installed, for the most part. It consists of 4-5 large metal items that look sort of like stylized #7's or #1's, with light bulbs outlining each one. I can't say I understand it, but I can't wait to see it lit up. It looks good. Edit: The lights are on, they're red, and it looks awesome.
  2. I only buy them when they're $1.99 /lb or less. I used to only buy the flash-frozen ones in the big bag. Cheap as can be and perfect when you're only cooking for 1-2. These days I don't even have time to fry a chicken breast.

I use "that" and "who" interchangably based on the flow of the sentence.
  4. I've tried to increase my shopping at local small merchants. My financial situation has been unique during school, and my cash flow has been unaffected by the recession. The least I can do is spend in such a way that my money circulates locally. Ideally that will lead to a couple more part-time jobs being available for others.

I had really hoped the price was higher for something like that. Did they mention the parking garage?
  6. As long as Hessler is left alone... whenever I bring this up to people who live there, they assume doom.
  7. That's the one. Dottie's? Debbie's? Something like that.
  8. This is huge! Happy happy day.
  9. I just like that it's called Steel Trolley.

Glenville would benefit tremendously from a rail link to downtown, which is roughly 100 blocks away. The same train might also help connect it with the growing arts scene in Collinwood, which is the next thing east. Plus Glenville has University Circle immediately to the south... I don't understand why that connection isn't emphasized more. I think it would be easy to re-gentrify Glenville through UC, but efforts have focused instead on Hough/Fairfax, which never were as upscale.
  11. Several train-car types in Cleveland. One at E40th and Prospect, one in Cleveland Hts somewhere (Lee/Superior?), one at E55th and St Clair. Maybe more. Although I'm not 100% sure the latter two are still open. Somers on Prospect is your best bet. It even has the individual jukebox interfaces at each table.

Ha, that's a fraction of what I pay to share a rental. That's like a monthly utility bill, for owning a condo. Not bad. Fees should be added on though. My friend looked at one near Shaker and the annual fee was more than the sale price. They're not all like that but it's an important factor.
  13. $800/$1200? I've got to see these things. They better be big. I love the building and the location though.
  14. I guess when it's viewed as a suburb to city wealth transfer, a high price ain't so bad. It still shouldn't come down to local infighting. That makes us seem so discombobulated.

I was big on He-Man growing up but I liked Transformers and GI Joe the most. Wasn't Hasbro based out of Cincinnati at the time? Was it ever/is it still? Cartoons in general were a big influence on me, plus the Greatest American Hero. And Jim Henson and Mr. Rogers. I should have mentioned Mr. Rogers the first time. I grew up in the woods so there was woods and TV. There was a city nearby (Newark) that I explored on my bike when I got a little older.
  16. That could have had a very different headline in the PD, with the ending and all. Musky, what is that guy in your picture up to?
  17. For this to get hung up between the city and county is patently absurd. Political units are arbitrary. Jackson, just take your money.

Suburbs have low speed limits and it doesn't make them any more pleasant. Using scarce urban police power to enforce them is the dealbreaker for me. Kids are safer when cops worry about crime instead of traffic. I think a city needs true urban commercial corridors AND arterial cut-throughs that concentrate and contain the inevitable car-oriented development. It shouldn't be all this or all that. Cars are not evil. Also, cities seeking (re)growth need to be welcoming and friendly. Messing with people about the way they drive can detract from that. Especially if cameras are involved... those flat-out offend some people. And which is safer for kids, a driver concentrating on the road or concentrating on where are the cops/cameras? Of course some speeds are not reasonable and shouldn't be allowed. But limiting everything to 25 mph isn't reasonable either.

I like how there's always a hot girl on the front page now, but I do open this at work.
  20. If I see as many things out of proportion as you think I do, we must be in different dimensions. I'm measuring the flow of mainstream information. It's anti-Ohio. How has blowing that off worked out for us so far? We're here talking about being tired of defending our state individually. AOL has the audience it does, and wherever else that was published has more. There's a reason I didn't post any text or a link, the same reason you didn't demand it. We both know it's BS. I'm just saying it's out there in a big way. Most inferiority complex people I've known let anything get said about them, right in front of their face. It's an overt symptom. NYC and Texas, for example, are known for not taking any guff about their homes. This trait seems to be respected worldwide, but there I'm speculating. What do you think? I think the answer to the question of this thread is yes, and we shouldn't take any crap from anyone.
  21. I surf pretty wildly, and I find about one negative list featuring Cleveland (usually Forbes) per week on mainstream sites. It's all out assault. The sun belt and coastal cities in their lists always rotate, but Cleveland and Detroit are stalwarts.
  22. Right this moment, AOL is showing on its front page a picture of Cleveland with the heading "Unhappiest American Cities."
  23. That hasn't always been apparent. I'm not well-travelled enough to form a clear personal view; mine is based on national media snippets which seem to trend derogatory. Even the positive ones are usually backhanded.
  24. I think what Palijandro said is objectively true, Cleveland has a much bigger problem with this than Cincy does. That's why the posts here are what they are. And I don't think the Peachtree fellow was being facetious about Cincy being in a different tier as far as businesses are concerned. In my opinion, Cleveland needs to step up its efforts on defending itself. Ignoring the stream of hate that constantly flows our way ends up giving it credibility. We can't stick our heads in the sand about it, nor can we just open a few restaurants and say TA-DA and expect the rest of the country to smile and say they were just kidding around this whole time.
  25. That's 6, and 5 of them seem neutral-to-positive.
