You know what else they should put there? A roller skating rink. One that plays Meatloaf. And a merry-go-round... oh wait, someone seriously proposed that.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Existing horse tracks can barely stay open. They've been declining for decades. I don't think horse racing has ever been less popular. This is not a good idea.

Fall = The Best Season... Who agrees?
Fall is best, especially October.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Maybe people should start taking mass transportation instead. :) I agree wholeheartedly, but I think that we can get there faster if the uninitiated aren't led to associate public transportation with measures they're likely to consider draconian and restrictive. That's true too.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
This is common throughout the project, but there at E 6 especially. Walk signs don't come on when they really should. You'll wait through several cycles of the traffic light and it never says walk, even when there's no earthly reason not to. This undermines the push against jaywalking because it seems like gratuitous holdup. Also, having each intersection be 24-hr No Turn On Red seems unnecessary. Turning from a sidestreet into the car lane of Euclid doesn't involve the middle bus lanes at all. Neither does turning off of Euclid. These lights are extra-long, and enforcing No Turn on Red at late-nite deserted interesections breeds unhealthy contempt for the system. Plus, forcing people to sit when they could go exacerbates rush hour bottlenecks.

It's Mexican Subway. You pick your own stuff and somehow it all still comes out the same. My cravings for it are rare. But I think they're good for developing corners because they get so much traffic.

Possibly a better location for Chipotle is the lone vacant retail spot in the Amtrust building on E9th just across Walnut from this EOG building. Neither one of these locations would support much night buisness. Not quite close enough to residential or bars. Maybe they could if the East Ohio building became apartments. If they put a lot of one-bedrooms in it, which it looks like a really good candidate for, it would fill up quickly. A quick injection of one-bedrooms would help everything downtown.

You're right, that makes more sense. Those aren't legal anymore so they're gone too.

Youngstown: "The Armpit of Ohio" "Murder Town" - Rolling Stone Magazine
Not exactly, but to some degree. We're working on it. Check cashing places may be less prevalent soon. Moves are being made to reposition this region in the economy. If this election goes as expected, the rust belt could finally have some pull in Washington. Don't discount the recent lack of it as a factor in what's happened here economically. You have to go back to Gerald Ford to find a president from a Great Lakes state. Note that Tim Ryan is on the rise too, and that's good for Youngstown. Corner video arcades would be great but I haven't seen one since the 80s. I don't associate them with economic turmoil at all. And socially, they're better than having each kid play separately in his basement.

Bob Evans
Like Sunrise, Hot Dog Shoppe, or Abruzzi's. I love Leo's in Howland Not generally a big fan of Bob Evans... usually just for breakfast... they have good biscuits and sausage gravy. Best biscuits & gravy in the area is the truck stop on Rt 5 (Center of the World) just before the turnpike. At least it used to be. And if it's still there, Combine Bros on 18 in Hermitage. Not for biscuits. Giant portion of pasta with steak on top. I once went to the original Bob Evans near Chilicothe (?) as a little kid on the way to see the Tecumseh play. We got to see one of the wait staff get fired. It was a nice opening act to the drama of Ohio's early settlement wars. I've never had bad food at Bob Evans, it's just really basic. Using more fresh local ingredients could be a nice modern hook for them. Come out strong in support of small family farms. Double down on their brand.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Yes that rendering was awful. Towers should be towery. It's like they handed Jacobs a blank blueish sheet of paper and said picture this-- as a building.

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
Losing that Eaton FEB project isn't so bad at all. Stark had a point when he called it suburban and inappropriate for the site. It'd be great to keep Eaton downtown, but their moving was probably inevitable all along. Now the tracks don't have to be ripped up. Maybe they can put a skinny office tower in there for smaller companies someday. The new building for the Breuer complex sat around for a while and they improved the design. Hopefully Jacobs does that too. We've got a nice pointy style going on public square and it doesn't need an icecube. A little time to think things over never hurts. I'm anxious to get things up too, but we have more things going up than we've had for a long time. Life is good. K&D and the banks might be waiting to hear more about the medical mart before they move forward with a new hotel.

North Randall: Randall Park Mall
Why on earth does a municipality that small even exist? I wouldn't call its end a "fatality" so much as euthanasia. This county should have well under 1/2 the municipalities it currently does, if it even has more than one. I would support consolidating the entire thing into Cleveland.

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
I love the way Ohio has so many different urban areas. But this is one of those times when it would be nice to just have a Chicago instead. Hopefully by competing with ourselves we can develop some unique niches.

Cleveland: University Hospitals Expansion (University Circle)
Too bad the former OCPM in the middle of the shot will be torn down in the near future. Thanks Cleveland Clinic. That really does need to be saved. Absolute tragedy if it comes down. If the city still has any power at all over the clinic that demo must be stopped. Seems like the building would be perfect for small startups, like the tech incubator in Youngstown.

Begging the question why was it built on Lakeside... plenty of suitable options that wouldn't waste the view.

Cedar's in Youngstown had Hudepohl on tap. Only place I've ever seen that. We called it hit-a-pole.

Cleveland: Courthouse Plaza
Jenga. I liked the previous rendering and I like these too although the first one is a little basic. Putting something bold there softens the blow of the courthouse, which is way too dominant over the western approach. That is an awfully big plaza in the 1st & 3rd pics. Shouldn't the open area go towards the valley rather than the intersection?

San Francisco: Developments and News
Modern architecture hits the ball sometimes. But it doesn't have a great average. It is prone to colossal failures-- buildings and complexes that can't make it through one generation. And it has anti-urban tendencies. Isolation, impenetrability, disregard for context. Is it a coincidence that cities have declined with its rise? We have to keep innovating, no doubt. But there's something to be said for the urban design principles that have worked for 1000 years. In a perfect world I'd like to see more of both.

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
1) I'm having to take an earlier bus now. :shoot: 2) This doesn't bode well for the west shoreway boulevard. 3) That unmarked cop car at 32nd & Detroit is gonna be raking in cash with his radar gun.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Well, 3 at once. The new dorm goes where the bookstore is, and they won't be able to clear away the bookstore until after the one in the new student center is open. At least that was my understanding of the 24th st housing. Maybe it will fit between the bookstore and the freeway? If so, what goes where the bookstore is now? Your opinion is as good as mine. And I know little of art, so yours is probably better. But could you imagine that thing chasing you at night? I can't get past that initial fight-or-flight reaction to it.
