  1. That's an interesting plan and I like most of it. The one thing that jumped out at me was the 1/2 mile or so of W25th that becomes farmland. While I realize that hillside is unstable, it's hard for me to accept agriculture as the highest and best use there.
  2. Weird, yes. I might even go a step further.
  3. I agree with Gramarye that tourism advertising is not likely to affect growth a whole lot, but I still believe that rebranding our population centers could help in the long run.

Yes, we are talking about a legal requirement, but it's a foolish and destructive legal requirement. It simply cannot be justified. I don't think it's possible to "be realistic" and allow it to stand. The reality is that we need these businesses to thrive and multiply. This policy works directly against a crucial goal. It needs to go away, period. If nothing else, consider the callous disregard it displays toward "the young people" and anything that might interest them. This administration is culturally lost in the woods. Protecting and cultivating our live music scene should be a top priority, and here we go attacking it instead. Unbelievable.
  5. I would start with the cities, which are the greatest potential assets and which also need the most image rehab.

This policy should not be pursued to any extent whatsoever. No negotiation is needed. Nothing should have been paid and nothing should be paid.

Breathtaking incompetence at city hall, on the issue of taxing small music venues. A foolish and destructive policy choice that needs to end today. http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2012/07/an_encore_for_admission_tax_fi.html
  8. Uh oh, that looks taller than the church.

This is the only kind of closer we ever get, since Mesa. Remember Bob Wickman?

Apparently, having a good PG (or QB) makes Cleveland seem like a much cooler destination for pro athletes.
  12. I've never had a problem reading the schedules. Finding them can be very difficult though, if you're not already at Tower City and you're not online at the time.

Wildly disparate prices on the same street could be due to appraisal fraud during the 2000's. Banks routinely demanded high appraisals in which proximity wasn't the factor it should have been. New construction was especially overvalued during that era. Developers and financiers would just pick a number, and that number never made sense.

FWIW I've done Shaker and Lakewood, and I prefer Lakewood by a wide margin. It ain't perfect but it's as close as you're gonna get. They both have holes in their transit coverage... Shaker has no all-night service, and Lakewood's 55 bus doesn't run on weekends.
  15. I agree, foot patrols have helped in the Heights. Can't have a pedestrian oriented society without pedestrian oriented cops.
  16. Wow, Akron gets 4 congressmen under the new plan. That's better than some states.
  17. I would say that in terms of "uniqueness," Cincinnati is in its own league. But I agree with many here that it isn't marketed properly. Just guessing, but maybe that has something to do with having so many anti-urban people in power, not realizing what they have there. All Ohio cities have this problem, as well as the state itself, but I think Cincinnati possesses more squandered branding potential than the rest.

Are you talking about living at the Rowfant Club? That's around E32 and Prospect. A friend of mine was once the "caretaker" there.
  19. Mark this down... 327 was completely wrong about something. Makes me feel better to know his is the original.
  20. ^^The song doesn't mention Cleveland at all. It's about whatever town he happens to be playing in. Meanwhile, his cover of "Rosewood Bitters" is a masterpiece and way better than the original. I've been tempted to call him at 98.5 and ask about chords I haven't quite figured out.
  21. I agree, that statement makes zero sense. It typifies the cluelessness of Ohio's powers that be.
  22. I haven't watched any of the Polk videos because I'm afraid they'll piss me off.
  23. Michael Stanley had some good songs... it's a shame that "My Town" is increasingly the only one he's known for. What an insipid piece of crap.
  24. And unfortunately, what we really need is one large one.

In estimating for 2020, I would anticipate some growth in Youngstown and Canton due to the shale boom. Employment is increasing so fast that tent cities are being erected as we speak. Not all of this employment will be permanent, but some of it will, and all of it will have spillover.
