  1. That map is really good news. Ohio City and Shaker Square seem to be hurting but otherwise, the city seems to be repopulated with more affluent people, and much of the population loss has been less fortunate folks moving to cities that can offer better opportunities and services for them. Aslo the West Side seems to be somewaht stable. I was worried there might be largescale white flight since the area is becoming much more diverse.
  2. Holy crap 2008 East Cleveland population numbers were at 10% loss and 2010 number ended up being a 34% loss.
  3. Interesting that the racial composition of Cleveland hasn't changed that much. Perhaps white flight is over?
  4. Well I know it goes without saying but it will be a matter of where people are leaving the city, rather than how many. If we lose thousands of people from our poorest neighborhoods, that might mean that they were able to improve their life and move to a better suburb. If not, it still might be beneficial for them. Cleveland cannot afford to pay for the entire region's impoverished population. If the regions's impoverished families become more disperesed throughout the metro, it would help all parties. Most suburbs are in a far better position to offer services (except for mass transit) than the city, and are often closer to jobs these days.

Well since youre in the Shaker Square area, I was thinking about one of the multi-family buildings in the area. An average house appears to be 2,180, so divided by two would be 1090 sq feet. So I am looking at 1090 sq feet. Built in 1920s. Natural gas. I know no one can be exact but could someone give my a very broad guess like $300-400 a month..... $400-600....$1000-1500?

Currently I live in an apartment that covers heating, and was thinking about moving into a duplex or small house. The problem is I have no idea how much heating costs, since I'm originally from Southern California. Could you all help me with how much I would expect to pay a month in the summer and winter?
  7. great explanation! I really was wondering about it.
  8. What's with all the seaguls in the river downtown now. I've only been here for about two years, so I don't know if this normal, but I didn't use to see this many. Is this seasonal or something new? Taking photos is getting hard.
  9. Wow, being from California I had the same experience when I moved here [sarcasm]. Seriously, get over yourselves Hollywood.
  10. I made sure to include the whole "Still beatin'" controversy. Supposedly the lyric was supposed to be "Cleveland" but was then changed to still beatin. Fortunately theres the "In Clevealand" line so I can use it.
  11. Reminds me of 18th & Vine in Kansas City where commercial redevelopement is progressing a lot slower than hoped. Much of the storefronts are painted over with facades of vibrant businesses.
  12. Sports are one of those things an entire city can rally against. Local politicians are still going to have some supporters, and murderers are too obvious. How about a thread about people the city hates to love....like Mike Polk
  13. I'll include anything in the last 30 years really or before if it was really big, I only moved here two years ago so that's why it's more weighed towards recent things. I'm obviously not going to be able to review everything, so if nothing else I can make an enormous list of the material I didn't get to, and give it to the Western Reserve Historical Society.
  14. Wow I didn't know about that poster. On a more enfuriating note, I also forgot to add the Fiji "because it's not bottled in Cleveland ad" either. Does anyone have a link for that?
