Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Interesting. Apparently we have been somewhat fooled by the Cleveland areas lower unemploymnet rates than most places, since the same area is doing worse than most other places in the ohter ranking overall. I was really hoping things were turning around there. Cleveland's a lost cause city, maybe some day we will all come to terms with this (75% of the metro area already has). Casinos and new convention centers will only get you so far. We have been fooled into believing Cleveland's economy is actually going somewhere. The lies.... "Fooled"? "We"? Speak for yourself! I'm going to leave it at that, before I say something that I shouldn't. A bit of sarcasm in my post. Figured you being the king of it would understand. No worries, no need to say anything you would regret. On that note, it is worrisome where Cleveland is today. I think I have sat behind the rose colored glass and figured things were really starting to look up for Cleveland. Unemployment rates do not speak the entire picture of Cleveland, and unlike a lot of other cities that are also going through building booms, they are announcing big job prospects. Cleveland hasn't seen major announcements in jobs like other cities have, let alone watch its workforce grow. With a declining workforce, lackluster job growth, and one of the very few cities in the nation with its housing prices below 2000 levels, Cleveland is going to have to do a lot more than build a casino to say its future looks bright. Ok and can you tell us just who said this? Seems like you have drank some of the negative Kool Aid or something because nothing you have said makes a lick of sense.

Cleveland: Retail News
And you have the adequate knowledge and background to actually say something like this? You know they have any problems especially a two fold problem? What exactly are you basing this internal knowledge on? It's quite simple, You don't belong in this store, there are plenty of discount stores for you. I spent a good amount of time in there while visiting and their pricing is completely in line with many buyers today, even people in Cleveland. Their pricing is way way way below many stores in most cities I visit. I got to meet the owners and people who worked there and they are fantastic and even used my Partner and me in one of the video promotions. They all told me the business has been amazing and much more than they expected. It' completely amazing you just assume they are not doing well or have problems and then suggest they move to Beachwood?? Maybe you have a low opininon of Clevelandars but may people do not. Thank God there are people like the Owners of DU that have faith in Clevelandars. I am offended at your comments.

Cleveland: changing attitudes about the city vs inner ring vs outer suburbs
All I can say is UNBELIEVABLE! The only thing that makes me feel good about the future of Cleveland is that I know many people that don't think, or act, in any way shape or form like people here on this forum and who "get it" and if you take offense to that as being self-righteous, oh well. What I'm offended at is the Cleveland bashing from people as to why they won't, can't, shouldn't live in the city or who want all the problems eliminated before they would even consider it. There is an answer for all of you and it's called THE SUBURBS!

Cleveland: changing attitudes about the city vs inner ring vs outer suburbs
No I'm saying things like being leered at happen and shouldn't be a shock and someone familiar with city living should be able to deal with it. And your take of yeah I want Cleveland to be better but it's just too dangerous and risky for me and my family to live their is a big part of the problem, sorry but it just is IMHO.

Cleveland: changing attitudes about the city vs inner ring vs outer suburbs
I don't get many of the posts on this site because I thought it was more for people who understand completely what the risks are all about living in Cleveland or any urban environment but figure out what they need to do to stay and make it better versus giving into their fears and living in the burbs and only taking advantage of the city when they feel like it. Fear is the core of what started the flight out of Cleveland and obviously it's still raging to many. It amazes me to hear people on here describe some of their experiences of the city like they are completely shocked it happened. Like yes sometimes you can experience groups of black youth or be able to see your neighbor close up through your window and yes crime happens??? I understand the thought process of people using their children as the reason they just can't live in the city and that's the reason you should live in the burbs but I have way too many friends and family, and most with basic monetary resources, who have children and they make living in the city work and are happier for it. If you think living in Ohio City or any of the Cleveland hoods discussed on here are sketchy you should bring your children and try living in the middle of the Mission neighborhood in San Francisco. There is no comparison and absolute craziness abounds but my family and friends make it happen completely aware of the risks and they are what make this city great.

I will be moving to Cleveland soon
ToCleveland for what it's worth I live in California and visit Cleveland often, in fact I am here right now and staying in Ohio City which you should absolutely check out along with Tremont and Detroit Shoreway especially Battery Park. I have traveled by car at least six times in the last week from Ohio City and it took no longer than 15 minutes to drive past the CC. I took the Bob Hope bridge to downtown then Euclid down to CC, and at all times of the morning, afternoon etc. You have to take the info about traffic issues here with a little bit of caution because it doesn't even compare to California. The East Side is an excellent choice for sure but you cannot over look these West Side neighborhoods for a great combination of residential and things like restaurants/bars. Don't let the commute fear stop you from checking these areas out. 15 Minutes? Lets give realistic information. I can't get from my house to the CC in 15 min. on a consistent basis. After 9pm or the weekend, maybe. On the bus, 15 min., is the min. OC/Tremont to CC in 15 is a huge stretch.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Or perhaps her and her coworker are "Out of it"! Jerry I always give you the benefit of the doubt. The way the post was written I did think the situation was pathetic. However, in hind-site I thought about the possibility that RnR's office mate may have been out of cell range or had the mobile radios on their device off. that is a large chunk of time.

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
One of the feedback comments is "Too much density". Did this come from residents living in the area? I can't believe anyone would think this in an area full of parking lots.

CURRENT Tremont Reviews/Thoughts please!
The poster above who states that there are limited places in Tremont for a night of drinking is ill informed. I only visit Cleveland but Tremont has plenty of great drinking establishments and is every bit as safe as Ohio City or Detroit Shoreway. Some joints in Tremont you will like are the Tap House, Hotz's Cafe, lava lounge, 806 Club, Flying Monkey, Treehouse and especially the Prosperity Social Club which is unlike most bars anywhere and great for drinking the night away. Just like any inner city neighborhood you just need to keep your wits about you.

Hey everyone else let's start jumping on and giving our senseless comments about something that could really make a differerence and cut short the people that are actually doing something to help the neighborhoods in Cleveland Yeah! So Urban of us all!

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
It's completely amazing the complaining about prices for things in Cleveland. I travel everywhere and this is nothing crazy and very much in line. If this is a greate experience it will be well worth it. I mean if you can't afford it then it's not for you. I am sure they did their due diligence on what to charge and again they are not just thinking of the locals thankfully, they are also targeting people from out of town who will not blink an eye at paying around $20 to see something like a great aquarium.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
That makes almost zero sense. If your people really wanted to live in the neighborhoods like Tremont and Ohio city why would they insist on an apartment? You would think they would want a house to rent which are readily available because I have looked along with apartments. That's too bad. That would be a prime location for apartments, being so close to the Market District and the Red Line. Cleveland seems to have very little in terms of decent apartment buildings for professionals outside of downtown, which is probably a big factor that keeps those types from moving into the city. I know multiple people who considered moving into the city, but ended up in the burbs because that's where they were able to find the best living options. They did not want to be downtown, but wanted to be in more of a neighborhood atmosphere. These are not urban minded people like those on this forum, but they were intrigued by the cool restaurants and bars around Ohio City and Tremont. Ultimately the lack of decent housing options kept them in the burbs because they did not want to sacrifice their living conditions to live in the city.

Tacky? Distracts from the WSM tower? Perhaps you can't concentrate on more than one thing? Did you perhaps think it could illuminate and highlight the WSM? No? Guess not.

Results of my informal, unscientific poll
This discussion is sort of rediculous but if you think adding swing sets to any downtown will make it vibrant or successful is extremely debatable. I live in one of the most vibrant downtowns (San Francisco) and you would be hard pressed to find anything close and we are packed every day of the year. If I had any involvement with downtown Cleve the last group I would be worried about is attracting children, SF focuses on Adults (who also don't worry about paying for parking) and they drag the kids along, period. I disagree that is truly non kid friendly. However, I think that developers are missing a key component of city living by not building housing that would entice parents to stay closer to the city center. Nor are we building not only smaller kid friendly "amenities" or activities for overall multi generational family entertainment. (Examples: A playground; A putt-putt/miniature golf course; Dog Park; Water features; Bike/Running trails, etc.) Who is saying that? Please, we're all just offering different opinions of what DT for a child is like for a child based on personal experience.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Can't you contain yourself a bit and perhaps get your facts straight? I doubt people are ready to boycott this place like you. Give them a break and they will work out the issues. I mean this Guy has brought so much to this neighborhood and you're ready to fry him. How do we know it's just not you!
