  1. I try and not post just to rant because it's not useful, and I have not idea of what the goings on behind the scene is with the MM, but I just can't imagine why leaders throughout Cleveland and Ohio including the Governor, UH and Clinic officials can not bring all the best minds together and work this out? Getting this project done is so very important you would think together they could either come up with the additional funds to still use PH or make a different decision. Is it as disjointed as it seems? Looks like Jackson is hanging out by himself trying to lead but it seems like we need a complete and unified front on this coming from all the leaders or does that just not happen because of egos or whatever? I would think the Governor seeing how important this is for jobs etc. that he could help and find funds for PH? Am I just out of my mind here? I really hope this turns the corner and soon although I am not as freaked about Nashville because it seems like it can't be that easy for them to move so fast plus they don't have near the medical strengths like the Cleve does with UH and the Clinic.

SFSpike that sucks big time and I feel for you and hope things are much better. Just wondering and this may require much too long of a reply but why are you fighting for your insurance and benefits? Is it due to the particular illness you had or just the bureaucratic crap insurance companies are so good at? Also I always get extra insurance, like long term disability etc. through my employee benefits and wondered if you had that as well and if so did it help? Anyway good luck Buddy.
  3. I just don't understand why they can not build something up to the street with parking attached to the back or something so it's hidden? Are we sure they aren't thinking of this? I can't imagine it has to look exactly like some suburban office with a grassy front lawn with tons of parking in between? I mean what would be the point of that and who cares where the parking is located?
  4. Lord, why does this scenario of everything turning into a quagmire of crap always seem to happen with things in Cleveland? It seems like there are always groups of people just wanting to stand their positions no matter how remote and nonsensical just to derail something. It's almost too much. This has to get done. Period.
  5. I think it's a great idea as well. I think the complaint of lake views being obscured is ridiculous. A great landmark type building between two older iconic buildings could be amazing. I agree the city can deal with Public Auditorium later and perhaps incorporate it somehow down the road. I just hope some people don't turn this into an uproar and stymie the whole deal, would be a real shame.
  6. Flee2theCleve... no one said he doesn't stand to make a lot of money. I hope he does. I mean did anyone think differently? He's a business person and that's usually the objective. I just said he comes across as somewhat different and not just someone who wants to steam roll in with a Casino and rape the city of billions. I could be totally wrong, I can't see into this Man's soul. He just seems like he really wants Cleveland to get something out of this which really positively impacts both his business ventures and Cleveland. And X there is never a guanantee..why you would even say that. I spent a lot of time in Vegas and the restaurants outside of the casinos were growing and doing awesome, just one example.
  7. Clvlndr....yours and similar posts are right on. Crybaby business owners that scream about having too much competition are companies that are mostly likely putting out sub par product and are just afraid of better companies coming in and putting them out of business and THAT IS A GOOD THING! Any well run restaurant, or other service type of establishment, should welcome the synergy and masses that the Casino will create. Competition will force them to be better or get out which is good for Clevelanders. With all the new big projects being built in downtown alone Cleveland will need the new restaurants to fill the demand which will have a huge ripple effect. I am more excited about this ripple effect than the Casino since I could give a rat's ass about gambling. I would spend more time downtown for the food, hotel, retail and entertainment options it could bring. Protecting a few establishments is the absolute wrong way to go. On a side note I am typically leery of some "Out of Town" entrepreneurs like Gilbert but having closely watched what he has to say I think he has some heart for Cleveland and I think he can be trusted to do the right thing.

Who freaking cares? I travel all over and have never heard of the slightest hint of Indianapolis and its new branding blah blah blah. Does a town really need to have a slogan or branding to make strides? Cleveland has had more national attention with it's headway becoming a foodie destination than anything Indianapolis has had with their Convention Center expansion, and oh by the way all that type of stuff and more is happening in the Cleve as we speak.
  9. I'm not sure if you consider this part of the UpTown project but I would think the MOCA would be part of this list as well.
  10. McCleveland I agree something needs to be done with that building. I have no idea what the history is concerning the owners but during my last visit it was really depressing to see such a vital corner looking so ghetto. Something strange must be going on because someone should have snatched that building up by now. Perhaps someone on here has the inside scoop.
  11. StrapHanger.... I would email Dante because he will respond and perhaps they will be open by the time you arrive in the Cleve. If not don't worry because there are so many great places to eat that the problem will be deciding where to go. A few places I dined that were all terrific were: L'Albatros (University Circle), Luxe (Detroit Shoreway), Lucky's Cafe (Tremont), Momocho (Ohio City), Great Lakes Brewing (Ohio City) and if you want something different and ethnic with music we tried Sterele's Slovenian Country House which was surprisingly good and fun although it's in the hood. There are so many more places to eat. Cleveland has become a great foodie town without a doubt.
  12. I emailed him before my visit in early October to see if the restaurant would be open while I was there and Dante sent me a message saying it would be open sometime early November.

I'm have no intention of getting into a pissing match. I know when it's worth it and when it's not, and this is definitely not. Wow.

This negative perception question can be debated up and down but I'm not so sure it's worthwhile. I do stand by my comment that typically it's not warranted because it's usually born out of ignorance, the article someone shared on HP about New York becoming Cleveland is a prime example. Unfortunately this negative image of Cleveland has settled into the American psyche. It seems as though people like to have other cities to kick around, probably to make them feel better about their city? Pure laziness is evident. Changing it? My guess is that change will come from lots of different entities making small and large contributions, and I was happy to see much of this happening on my last visit. Actually our perception was Cleveland never looked so good. I also noticed a change in many of the locals as well. People everywhere were more passionate about their city and neighborhood which I think is huge. In past visits it would seem that many locals would have their civic blinders on and we would get the "You like it here?" look, this time it was very different. I am also realistic about Cleveland and know the city faces many problems which can't be ignored and I don't even pretend to know how to go about fixing them but I think a Cleveland full of passionate and confident people is a major step to changing perceptions and thankfully I see that happening. Cleveland has so many wonderful things to build on, assets that other cities would just die to have, and this helps tremendously. Some are being used wisely like the Orchestra and CMA to name a few and some like the lake shore are just starting to be tapped. The perception issue is frustrating but I think it is changing and we have good reason to be optimistic along with being realistic. In the meantime we can not let people have a green pass to make crazy comments and I will continue to get in their faces, hey it's one small way to make change.

You're clearly not getting my point. Did I say ANYTHING about someone having to LIVE in a city to make accurate or even somewhat intelligent statments? NO! Read my post again please before you comment. When someone outright admits they are not familiar with a city but then goes on to blurt out completely outrageous statments is when I say they are in no position to have valid comments. The bulk of Cleveland's negative perception is perpetuated by people who have not the slightest idea of what Cleveland is all about because they have little or no experience with the city.
  16. This is one of those ratings/surveys that actually got it right. Cleveland deserves to be very high on those lists without a doubt. Cleveland is an amazing place to visit and people need to recognize it.

Actually as an "Outsider" I can't believe any of you are letting this comment by this Edale person even merit these responses. Just from the first sentence "I admit I am not overly familiar with Cleveland" should just about sum it up about this person. Ok so your not familiar but you're going to go ahead and state that most of Cleveland is run down and abandoned? Excuse me but I live in San Francisco and just came back from a week long trip to Cleveland and it's anything but run down and I would take Cleveland any day in a head to head match against Cincinnati in any capacity, and I have been to BOTH towns. So yeah you are totally and completely off base. You must be completely oblivious or insanely insecure about your own Town and I would assume it could be both, not that I am overly familiar with you or anything.

TMH....You have to realize the people who make these remarks about Cleveland are coming from a purely ignorant place and typically are easy to shoot down. Although I haven't lived in Cleveland since I was a child I am a fierce advocate and have the ability to get in anyone's face and make them regret ragging on the Cleve and have done it many times. Although the one come back that really seems to work is whenever they say something bad about the Cleve I always ask "So where are you from?" and no matter where they are from I am always able to say "And you think you have the right to say something bad about Cleveland?" And then I just throw my head back with laughter and they immediately shut the F up. Works every time.
  19. Any pictures to share? Also when will the public art and bus shelters be installed?
  20. I really don't get this. Seems really short sighted considering the tide of organizations is to move and invest in the core of cities, especially where they have long time roots.
  21. 3231 your right some of the movie was shot in Toronto but many of the street scenes where the museum is were shot in Cleveland on that street. I know the school scenes and others were in Toronto.
  22. That building looks hella boring.
  23. I did try to search for any updates on the construction of the RTA station on E 120th St but could not find anything that is recent. Does anyone know if this is progressing and when work would start?
  24. Scav never said you should be muzzled but to tell you the truth being an architect doesn't, IMHO, give you or any other architect any more insight or bragging rights. When it comes to this specific subject I just don't know how anyone can really make these kind of calls until the building is finished and you have actually experienced what the function of the building is for and I think in this case it's to witness amazing art and not the architecture, although if they both happen together it's not a bad thing for sure.
  25. Almost too ridiculous to even compare or talk about, Scav put down the pipe. The CMA is not even close to being finished but you can make those type of judgement calls? Please.
