Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
Well, isn't that what those criminals/commissioners did when they bought this turkey in the first place. Not to mention Gilbert's "phase two" purchase

US Economy: News & Discussion
That's like surmising people would stop buying guns due to Sandy, when in reality gun sales accelerated after Friday. Or that we'd come together as a country after 9/11, whereas after a brief period of unity we're divided on 1860s levels.

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
Are there studies to back that up? I mean, I think of Minneapolis and all its underground tunnels between buildings, and yet there was still a retail and restaurant scene in the downtown when I visited. Also, is the consensus here that the Cleveland Clinic is responsible for hurting outside retail in University circle because of those skywalks above Euclid Av? There are 20 thousand workers, plus quite a few patients and families, there alone, and yet zero shops outside. It just seems to me you guys are inflating how much skywalks hurt or affect a city.

Chicago: Developments and News
And where on earth are all those street people coming from? There might be some projects on Division west of that, but nothing in theimmediate area. And it's the freaking Gold Coast of all places. My guess is some of the Wilson and Lawrence bums/mentally ill/street people/rehab center and halfway house residents/etc make the trip there, at least the ones who aren't wheelchair bound (cause there sure isa lot of that too) but still, what the hell is going down in/around that station? The only physical confrontation I've had in the city is with some unstable fellow who wouldn't stop harassing me and my roommate at night. And of course, it's not like there's an ounce of security anywhere.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Am I the only person here who really doesn't understand what all this fuss is about? Guys, it's just a McDonalds. It's not stifling Ohio City's progress, it's not bringing in undesirables, we're not losing some amazing historical landmark, there won't be a tsunami of noise, and it's not going to cause the great ecodisaster of the 21st century. It's not an after-hours hip hop club, it's not a Super Walmart, it's not Cthulhu; it's just a McDonalds. Sometimes you need a quick cheapo "burger" and fries.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
They're also doing construction on the new student union now, which you can see from the Art Museum. By the way, holy $hit does that massive atrium just COMPLETELY make the museum. It feels like a totally new place. Also, MOCA is a little lame inside and you don't get much bang for your buck. All you get is the fourth floor, with the second floor just having one exhibit. Eight bucks for maybe 25-30 minutes of walking. Eh.... Frankly, the coolest part of the museum, beyond the exterior, is the view of Uptown. Worth a look on a free day, but otherwise I don't see going back anytime soon.

Why are young people driving less?
Certainly the high costs of a new vehicle are a major factor, considering the lack of disposable income. What college grad can spend over $20g for a car when he's working part time in retail to pay off $50g in college/grad school debt.

Ohio & National Intercity Bus Discussion
The overnight Cleveland to Chicago megabus was FOUR HOURS LATE on Sunday night/Monday morning. A big FU to there being no communication to people waiting beyond pre-written twitter responses, a big FU for the compensation of $49 and a free round trip, and a huge FU to the Renessaince hotel for kicking us out of their side lobby, making us stand in the cold for HOURS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. A spectacular failure by everyone.

Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
Better to save the ones we can rather than allow the bad ones to ruin it for everybody (the status quo for many many many public schools). Of course charters aren't perfect, but at least it gives the stable kids a shot at a real education.
