Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
Realistically, the CSMD can't do anything other than push legislators to pass laws severely criminalizing bad parenting and being a disruptive student. And since that's never going to happen, all they can do is hope more stable people move to Cleveland and send the good kids to the schools.

Ubaldo is getting $5.75 million next year. Not bad for being the worst pitcher in the majors.

Rust Belt Revival Ideas, Predictions & Articles
To answer your question - yes. Absolutely. Beautified downtowns or isolated improved neighborhoods do not equal a city's revival, whatever that term even means. Depleting populations and middle income jobs have a far greater effect than restaurant openings or $300,000 condos. Perception will only get you so far.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
So when someone is acting like an animal, should we have to use other terms to describe it? Forget political correctness - the term fits what I saw in that video. I don't think people would object to something like calling Sandusky an animal or a monster. So why not here?
-
Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I'm pretty sure calling her an animal isn't quite as bad as her behavior and actions on the video. Of course other words that begin with a b or c are also quite accurate.

Good for RTA for filing charges against that animal! Hopefully the driver will be reinstated soon.

There's this young publisher/entrepreneur I know, an extremely successful local guy, millionaire by late adolescence, yadda yadda. I wouldn't say we're friends but are somewhat friendly, certainly civil. What he does almost every day is post a cliche about the pursuit of happiness and a good life. Something like, in caps, "A REAL MAN IS A GOOD HU-MAN," or "GOD DEMANDS LOVE, I DEMAND RESPECT," I mean, some laughable garbage like that. The line is usually a caption underneath some strange modelesque shot of this guy, your know, like where he's got his arms folded and staring seriously ahead. This stuff I dont mind. Sure it's hackneyed and somewhat egotistical, but what drives me nuts are the responses. He gets at least dozens of "Amen" or "You are so right" or "You are a beautiful man". It's a combination of sycophants and people who want to be in his good graces due to his wealth and celebrity, that's completely the vibe I get. Really what they're saying is I WANT TO BE IN YOUR CIRCLE or ultimately GIVE ME MONEY! kind of annoying overall, kind of funny too

I also can't stand the "wah, I'm depressed. I have no friends newsfeeds," followed by all these comments about how special the poster is and what not. It's not a plea for help really, just a lame need for validation, and is ultimately just attention-whoring.

I'd hate, hate, HATE to see a New York vs St Louis World Series, but this has been one of the most incredible playoffs I've ever seen.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
The man was attacked and he responded. Her actions could have jeapordized a lot of people's lives. I am NOT saying he's a hero, but she is in no way a victim. Just a roothless, ignorant piece of trash. This is why we have jury nullification, if this should go to criminal trial

Your demolished past - Your redeveloped past
Hell of a topic, KJP. I feel some eyes are gonna get watery at some point. I don't have any pictures on me, but here's a few: The Dairy Queen on Brainard/Mayfield. Before it was a Dairy Queen/Orange Julius, it used to be a tiny seasonal, summer-only Dairy Queen shack. I would walk with my parents down Brainard Rd on summer evenings, and see the mob of people, most of whom were getting out of Little League at Brainard Park, waiting in line or chilling outside this little DQ. Now it's just an ordinary, boring Dairy Queen diner, and has lost all of the magic from before it was rebuilt. Severance: Since my dad worked at the medical building across the street, I would be by his office a lot and, often bored, would kill entire afternoons at the mall. Now it's a complete piece of $hit of epic proportions but back then, even when it was more the "black mall", it still had a lot of heart and was a lot of fun for a kid. I never had any problems and always felt it was an okay place to hang, even though it had a very different clientle than say Beachwood Place. Russian Tea Room in Lyndhurst: Since my dad's patients were virtually all eastern European, he and I would occasionally go to the Tea Room, even though they really didn't want minors. I was very young when I went and don't remember much about it beyond it being very dark, ethnic, strange food options, and there being some unsavory, connected types there. The Russian Tea Room was empty for a number of years; now it's some kind of retail store (I was just walking around it a few weeks ago). Geauga Lake: I don't even want to go there; that one still hurts today. Cedar Center Bowing Alley (is that now a CVS?) and Eastgate Bowling Alley/video arcade (now a Costco): What the hell do kids do for birthday parties anymore? The Heights bowling alley was a lot of fun, and I went to a ton of parties at the Mayfield Heights one. Good times. Borders all over the city, especially La Palace: see Geauga Lake. Another slap to the face.

Some crazy scumbag got what she deserved. Sure the driver acted very unprofessionally, but he was being attacked by an animal and responded.

That or Morbidbook. I keep seeing newsfeeds of people asking their FB friends to keep someone in their prayers. Even worse is when someone is practically documenting the immediate before and after death of a loved one. They're nuts - stop posting all this personal $hit. It's like a cry for sympathy and is a total downer.

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel ran for US Senate.
Bruce really is a great guy. He took me out for deli twice when I was looking for legal work in Cleveland and networking, plus he gave me several names to call. He's the real deal. Now Josh....well, I don't care for him on a personal level and certainly don't buy his campaigning. Obviously his overt (can't think of the right word) Judaism plays a major part in Beachwood (and other east side suburbs), but that just means a lot of voters are focusing on the wrong thing.

Someone on cleveland.com mentioned turning it into an outlet mall. That's a heck of an idea.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
The one great thing about this year's team is this cleveland.com meme, with one of the posters (MyTribe), a clear booster of the team, repeatedly harping about Santana and Cabrera needing to switch in the lineup, which is one of the main reasons the Indians' season was so horrible. Apparently this guy keeps repeating how much the season suffered because Cabrera wasn't hitting clean up and Santana was, so much that other posters (99% of whom are far more negative than this guy) turned it into a bit of a meme. I'm not really giving it justice here, but it's really funny.

Ohio & National Intercity Bus Discussion
I took the Megabus last Thursday leaving Chicago for Cleveland at 11:30pm. It's such an experience being among the hundreds of people rushing around Union Station, trying to figure out which bus is their's, especially as the buses don't tell you until 5-10 minutes before they leave. It is such a disorganized experience, but kind of humorous too. You just smile, shake your head, and jog to the next bus down Canal ("Ooo, I heard a rumor THIS is the Cleveland bus"....ten minutes later.... "Oh crap, St. Louis)." The ride itself was hillarious. The bus was incredibly warm when we finally got going, so much that my roommate went to the bathroom to change into shorts. Well...no good. The bus was so bouncy (did it even have shocks?) that he manacled his hand and gave up before there was too much blood loss. Upstairs (we were on the second level of the bus), he says enough is enough and just drops his pants in front of everyone, tighty whiteys and all, to change into shorts. It was dark, sure, but everyone knew what he was doing, and it got a few laughs. A couple hours of crap sleep later, the bus takes a quick rest stop break, and apparently some passengers tell the driver it's too damn hot. So for the rest of the ride, we're all blue in the face from the air conditioning running like it's being chased. Good god was that an unpleasant four hours. Fast forward to Sunday night/Monday morning at 12:45am, we get to the Public Square stop fifteen minutes before departure. And we wait. And wait. And wait. OVER A F$$$ING HOUR. Calling Megabus was useless at that hour (frustrating as hell is the understatement of the year, with its bull#hit precorded answers that have NOTHING to do with delays), and it was chilly willy. A cab showed up around quarter till 2, and the cabbie told one of the people waiting that he heard the bus would be here in ten minutes. What? How the hell did he know? Well, he was somewhat right, as the bus showed up a little after 2. No apology, no acknowledgement, but by then we were too tired/relieved to get angry. The driver didn't even take half of our registration numbers. I mean, it's not like anyone was going to sneak on by then. We got to Chicago in less than 6 hours, even with a rather long Toledo stop. The driver must have been breaking speed barriers. Gotta love the Megabus:)
