Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Yeah, but at least ridership numbers technically double as a result of these transfers. You win some, you lose some.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
^^Do cold climate cities usually provide indoor facilities for major connections? I always just thought you get off one bus, wait outside unless you're fortunate enough to have an insulated stop, then transfer onto the upcoming bus. Obviously it would be nice if there were a warm facility for riders, but is this the norm?

US Economy: News & Discussion
Even with seasonal employment boosts, that's pretty good, esepcially with the private sector numbers. A nice way to end the week.

Sears / Kmart News
^I'm not saying you're wrong, but there's nothing new about this kind of behavior. And until we get some massive, unrealistic federal regulations pertaining to this sort of corporate blackmail, I don't see much else we, Ohio, can do but behave like everyone else.

The Dating Thread
An area by Chicago's Gold Coast that is notorious for rich old guys hitting on young (18 or over, of course) girls in expensive restaurants and bars. It's almost like a reality show.

The Dating Thread
Lots of girls go on a few dates for free meals/drinks. Hell, I know some who go to the Viagra Triangle who compete with each other over 'how many drinks will a guy buy me' every weekend. Let's face it. If you're an attractive single (if that even matters) lady, you can get a lot of freebies in life.

Sears / Kmart News
^Those are very very good problems to have, however. I suppose you look at what other cities and towns have done in similar situations and try to mirror the successful ones. Of course I'm sure a deal of this magnitude will go over factors like "cost" to local communities well in advance of signing the dotted line.

Sears / Kmart News
But we're not losing $400 mill, despite the word 'spending'. If we give them certain tax breaks, we're not spending anything; they're just not giving us anything, which wouldn't be any different if they were not to come at all. Now I'm not saying all $400 million will be like that, and obviously Ohio would have to fork some major cash up, but the negativey on this particular Sears board is just bizzare. I don't know if it's an anti-Kasich thing or we're just not used to jobs in masse potentially coming to Ohio, but it's very disheartening to see this kind of reaction.

Sears / Kmart News
What on earth are you guys complaining about? This isn't a situation where he's just going to give Sears $400 million cash; rather, it will likely be some combo of tax breaks, credits, abatements, and other incentives if it happens at all. At the least let's wait until we hear the specifics of how Kasich proposes to bring Sears to Ohio before going off the rocker and bashing him. This is a GOOD thing if it comes to Ohio in terms of 6000 jobs or so, ancillary employment, larger tax base, morale and other intangibles for having a Fort 500, yadda yadda. Let's not kid ourselves, if this were Strickland making such overtures, some of you guys would be singing a different tune. Quick thing : in terms of being opposed to states bribing companies to play musical chairs, Ohio could take some vague high road and refuse to deal. But when other states are playing the game, you have few options .... It's a better alternative than the 'well, we stuck to our principles but where the heck did our jobs go? approach.

No reference to Cleveland but you can bet the Med Mart guys are reading articles like this with interest. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/11/29/us-hospitals-idUSTRE7AS2ZI20111129 "Analysis: Hospitals target pricey medical devices for savings"+

Student group trip to Cleveland - suggestions?
I'd call up Great Lakes Brewery, explain who you are, and see if you can use or rent their second floor for an evening; it's a great venue and important location for Cleveland, not to mention the best beer in the country. They might even be able to help find a speaker to talk about the region, perhaps the history of Ohio City. Another thought would be to have the kids watch that recent Danny Greene film, then visit the Collinwood and downtown (hell, even Lyndhurst where he died) neighborhoods the movie profiled.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I actually had a few of those on Saturday before I went to Ohio City. I've never had it before - definitely a smooth drink, very similar to Christmas Ale in taste too.

Cleveland: MOCA
how in god's name are they putting up that building so fast. when you think of how long other projects took/are taking - perk park, euclid corridor, whatever that building is on e9/euclid, and so on (and yeah, i understand those are all very different projects with varying complexities), it's just astounding.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Anyone else do some major damage at Great Lakes this weekend with Christmas Ale (I was at the outdoor patio on Friday for 4 hours...Saturday night had to stay inside there since it got a bit chilly). Holy god I'm still feeling it.

I was there last summer for an alumni networking theory. Pretty cool venue and an open bar is an open bar. Didn't try the food though.

Sears / Kmart News
It's just a prisoner's dilemma. If you don't play the game, someone else will and you end up losing. The game sucks but our choices are limited. And KJP, no need to take offense to what I was saying - my comment was directed to the overall tone of the last few pages of this board, not you specifically.

Sears / Kmart News
Sounds like sour grapes that they didn't come to Ohio. If they had, or better yet Cleveland, you guys would be singing a different tune.

Best way to travel in the winter..
I have nothing new to add except to say if you can kill half a day, the trainride really is a neat, visual, comfortable experience , and it is only a bit more expensive than flying.

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
Well, let's not kid ourselves. The Shedd Aquarium is enormous (at one time it was the biggest aquarium in the world) and a major tourist draw on a global level - I'm surprised a family membership is that cheap actually
-
Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
$88 if your two kids are over 12 years old. Average price or no that's a lot of bank for 90 minutes of fish. And it will affect multiple visits.

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
$22 seems very high to me. You go on a date and you're paying $44? Bring the family, say a spouse and two kids, and you're at $76? It should be priced where you can go casually. There is no reason that museum, like the Rock and Roll HOC for that matter, should cost as much as the Newseum

Penn State Scandal
The football program is likely what brings in an astronomically disproportionate amount of money from alums, merchandising, ancillary stuff (game day influxes of restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, shopping, not to mention intangibles). If it suffers or no longer exists, then the other programs will as well.
