  1. I don't think the poster is out of line whereas calling him disgusting and racist just like that is beneath you, KJP. I get what he's saying too and it is a fair, albeit simplified, comment on the complexities of having a hub there. If I resided in an expensive condo on w6, you can bet I'd have concerns with a hub across the street. Sure there would be pros, but you have to look at both sides. A walk along public square part ii at 3am over the summer may not be what I want with this investment.

There are reports now that Sandusky has been pumping out some of the kids to alums for a number of years.

Imagine the alum donations now and the next few years; I mean, the school is facing god knows how many tens (hundreds?) of millions in damage. What alum - hell, what student for that matter - would want to pay money to pay for their school's legal bills/damages now. (Though in all fairness, I do believe the university said something to the effect that they wouldn't use alum donations for any subsequent bills. Though if you believe that, I've got a beautiful bridge to sell). And who in gods name would want to go to a school that is so clearly brainwashed by this Paterno guy that the students actually rioted over his being fired. What the hell are they smoking out there? Christ, it's like all those North Koreans crying on the streets after the Great Leader died in the early 1990s - who are these morons and how many years of therapy will it take to undue this incomprehensible amount of brainwashing that must have occurred? My eldest nephew is looking at colleges for next year, and you can bet Penn (which he ironically visited several weeks ago) is off the table, at least according to my mom/his grandma. ALso, If I'm Nebraska, I say Saturday's game needs to be postponed; hell, if I'm the NCAA, I say there is no way Penn State should be involved in football for the rest of the season, perhaps even more years than that. The entire school needs to be punished for this incident for a very long time. And with this McQueary guy coaching now (by the way, what 28-year-old walks away from a 10-year-old being brutally raped - there is no reason this guy should be allowed anywhere near a football field, more or less minors). It doesn't matter if he is protected by whistleblower statutes or if he himself was molested and then relived the child's rape (a rumor floating around) or whatever garbage defenders of this clown are saying - the fact that he didn't do anything to save that 10-year-old makes him no better than the rapist or the scumbags who knew what was happening. Hell, his inaction was worse than Paterno's inaction since it was so immediate.

I understand the spirit of the mantra; I just don't buy it.

"Better 1,000 guilty men go free than one innocent soul be left to rot in jail for something he didn't do." I take it then you're for that Shalit deal in Israel? Personally, I've never bought that mantra.

Compared to the Chenorbyl we have there now, even a Bob Evans is an upgrade

All things considered, I can't complain.
  9. if Nashville tenants bail, they gotta go somewhere!
  10. A few weeks ago I needed to get a round trip from Chicago to Cleveland on the day of. Now I get that you're gonna get screwed when you are getting tickets 12 hrs before no matter where you are, but expedia listed the cheapest cost at just under $700. Thank god for the megabus
  11. There are a number of reasons why Clevelanders have such low self-esteem. Just a few off the top of my head: Also...in the interest of not having to read someone(s) go through each point and challenge it, let's just say these are the perceptions that I believe many Clevelanders share. This isn't absolute fact, just opinion. So let's just save the whiny, overly defensive retorts for now. Something as simple as the phrase "mistake on the lake" has unfortunately stuck to Cleveland like glue. Cleveland has tried to promote other nicknames but they haven't been as catchy as the negative one. Sometimes words make a difference. The city has a lousy perception from those who haven't visited or lived here. I'm talking about every goddamn article about Cleveland, even if positive, always having to talk about its problems before getting to the good stuff. They all begin negatively no matter what - it's incredible! It would be like if every article about New York City would reference 9/11 in the first paragraph, no matter what the content. All of the momentum from the 80s and 90s, in which Cleveland became nationally known as the comeback city, just seemed to disappear in the 2000s. Things were getting better with new buildings, stadiums and museums, the once-in-a-lifetime-party venue of the country, an overall cleaner city, Major League and the Drew Carey Show, both of which kind of pushed the root-for-the-underdog mentality people had---and then it all just seemed to die. I think we saw the momentum die and it hurt a lot. Racial relations are pretty disastrous in this city, let's not kid ourselves. This isn't Atlanta. Jobs/local economy. The continual eroding of once great, then middle class, now struggling neighborhoods throughout the city and inner ring suburbs hurts a lot as well. Just driving downtown from the Eastside and seeing all the desolate areas is heartbreaking. Sports and weather and unbelievably corrupt political forces and epicenter of mortgage holocaust and failed projects and the exodus of young professionals and terrible newspaper...well, once you add up all those things, and I understand that you might not agree with all these complaints, but there's enough to understand why civic pride is lacking in the city. Finally, there is a complete absence of leadership. There just isn't. It's not Mayor Jackson, it's not the Ratners or the Mandels, it's not any of the remaining big businesses or wealthy families, none of the PD writers, none of the school deans...we just don't have anyone to follow. Not really. You can bet your a$$ that affects civic pride as well.
  12. most beautiful sight of Cleveland these days is right at Euclid and Mayfield
  13. So the Barnes & Noble is just a college bookstore? I have to admit, I'm not exactly surprised but definitely a little disappointed.
  14. ^^The preview could have used more Hulk but I am PUMPED!
  15. From a cleveland.com commenter: "If this thing works, it will just wind up at Yankee Stadium." Now that is the quote of the day!
  16. Any of the make public square look presentable plans
  17. ^what he said.
  18. Long term though, you need to fill that resume up if you want to find work again. I would say that, from an employer's perspective, the stigma of being unemployed is greater than that of working in a fast food restaurant. At least in McDonalds or a farm or wherever you're working, paying taxes, being productive, interacting with people, being responsible, and demonstrating that you're a person of maturity and character instead of a being a "I'm too good for this line of work. I don't get out of bed for less than $40,000 a year'' kind of person. Who would want to hire someone like that?
  19. The fact that there are people on this board that are anything less than outraged by the recent news of the Medical Mart is shocking. This educational platform was not the arrangement that was agreed upon early on, and this change is hardly a slight deviation. Considering Hagan of all people is now questioning the legitimacy of the project, and he was easily the Med Mart's number one supporter and pusher, we should very much be troubled and unnerved and outraged by the MMPI's duplicity. There are a lot of projects in Cleveland over the past twenty years that were publicly financed with fantastic visions of resulting economic booms and multiplier effects and gentrification and retail and restaurants popping up everywhere. But let's face it, Gateway isn't Wrigleyville; Flats line is a bigger scam than the Detroit people mover; Rock & Roll stadium is not remotely the draw we were assured; Browns stadium sits empty 350 days a year with virtually nothing of note around it; Euclid Corridor is still in its infancy but you can definitely argue both ways about it being a success or a bomb so far; yadda yadda. My point: we keep getting these promises with our tax dollars, they never ever seem to come to fruition, and we should be upset instead of justifying everything i.e. oh, the Flats will run to capacity when the current project is finished, or we would have lost the Indians and Cavs if not for the Gateway District. But that justification is getting old, and with the Med Mart, it's really alarming to see both the project, which was somewhat unclear to begin with, radically altering without informing the public (thank god for the PD here) and second, that there are people saying these changes are no big deal when they absolutely are. This is our money for god's sake! Reading some of these comments, it's like an abused wife looking for reasons to stay in the marriage instead of just flat out saying 'We got screwed and we need renumeration'. Sometimes you have to acknowledge that we got f&*&$d
  20. 3 examples. Friend 1 graduates from a decent college on 04, gets into zero law schools. He works a couple dead end temp jobs for 2 years, takes the GRE, takes it again, goes to OSU for a master in English, moves back to Cleveland, substitutes for a year in several schools, gets a one year lectureship at CCC. And now he is a full time assistant professor on tenure track making $60g if he works summers Friend 2 graduates from Eastern Mich in 04, spends a year at kalamazoo law, transfers to case his final 2 yrs, works at bed bath for a year, then the city of detroit law dpt, then a crappy bankruptcy firm, and now he is hitting 70g at a good employment law firm in Lansing. And then there is me. Case grad in 07, document review and part time clerkships till 09, start editing company out of desperation, then get offer in tiny immigration firm in 2011. And next week I am scheduling several interviews/networling at bigger firms, still running editing company too. You just can't ever ever ever give up. It does all add up, even the 'lesser' jobs.
  21. That's a poor mentality to have. A job is a job no matter what the wage. Livable or not, it's available and if you're unemployed, then you take it if you can. No one is stopping you from trying to find something better
  22. I am pretty sure no one wants that save for those criminals themselves
