  4. I used to work at Cleveland Clinic Innovations in the old, tiny building. This place looks like it's 5 times the size.
  5. Reading the cleveland.com comments, you'd think we were winless this year. They're pissed off at the offense? What? Do they not know how to read baseball statistics? We're among the top teams in a ton of offensive areas. Also, at least on cleveland.com, it seems the negative nancies have moved on from berating the owners, manager, and players, as they've done in years past, to now berating the fans for not showing up. It's not "Sell the team, Dolans" anymore; now, it's "No wonder we're small market. 14,000 fans for a first place team?" Man, it's always something with them.
  6. So is chris perez 2-1 or 3-1.
  7. 3-1 Indians. I've got 5 bucks on the game with my nephew, 10 if they win by that score
  8. Good to see perez looking confidant again
  9. I think another reason attendance is bad is that fans might be embarrassed to be fair weather. And, by the way, there's nothing wrong with being a fair weather fan - I'm not sure why that phrase is so negative...but it is. Maybe 'embarassed' isn't the right word exactly, but the reluctance may stem from not wanting to be one of those guys who jumps ship back and forth - it's easier to choose one side and stay there.
  10. The attendance is bad for a few reasons: -It's been a pretty cold April. -Fans still aren't sure if this team is the real deal and don't want to invest their time and emotions into a team that may inevitably collapse (not my opinion, I think they're going to the World Series, just talking about peoples' perceptions). -Despite the team's success, fans are still furious with the Dolans and Shapiro and want to demonstrate it by not showing up. -The awful economy and high gas prices affect spending money on luxuries like Indians games. -Cleveland sports fans might be a bit burnt out at this point. After the Cavs and Browns disastrous seasons, it's hard for some to get into the Indians. -The first game was a major downer, even with the comeback. Down 14 runs in the first few innings takes a lot out of the team's sails, even with its 10 run comeback -The team has been crap the last few years anyway and a lot of these guys are relatively new to the team, so there isn't much player loyalty outside of Grady, Haff, Asdrubal and Carmona Some combo of these reasons is probably why attendance has been so rough.

honestly, it was just a guess:)

I think gas station owners buy gas in bulk at a set price, so they need to wait until their tanks are empty.

  16. Yes, mobile version working again!!!!! Whatever changes you guys end up making, please don't lose the mobile URL or at least offer a different URL.
  17. heatohio, you are right on the money. Our country is pretty rotten for those reasons and more. I will disagree with your explanation for our high crime rate - it has more to do with a socially accepted ignorance and incompetence that many people make intentionally. Otherwise, yeah, we really are the laughing stock of the world these days, in particular with our so-called educational systems.

It should come down to the job. Both cities have the charms and downfalls, but the job is the most important thing. So if you have better networking connections to one over the other, then that should be your choice.

HHS, I don't see your point. Yes this is what happens when every component of our economy depends on oil. That sucks. We all hate it. Well, maybe not oil tycoons and investors, but everyone else. But that doesn't change the fact that we have a kind of symbiotic/parasitic relationship with oil and gas. We can't just cut ourselves off it; otherwise, we die (and I'm not even being that metaphorical). We need to be weaned off it over a period of time (think how heroin addicts are treated with methadone), with other alternatives introduced. And what's happening with the price of gas and oil is not being weaned off - it's an outright shock to the system that is f'ing up our fragile country more than it can handle. What do you think is going to happen to the price of food or medication of gas should hit $6? How do you think that would affect employment and housing or our country in the longterm? Who is going to eat at a restaurant that requires driving more than a few miles? Who is going to donate money to charities if every dime we have is going to gas? We cannot afford yet another punch to the gut - this country has just had too many lately.

There is nothing to love about what's happening to the price of gas. It's not like tomorrow there's going to be an electric trainline in front of your door, or everyone is moving back to the downtown and inner cities, or private and public investors will start making serious efforts to seek out alternatives. Instead, it's just going to help further our economic depression for the near future, which, who knows, may extend far longer as a result. Discretionary spending will continue going down, people's morale will fall even further, the price of food will continue to escalate, everyone's wallets will get smaller, and nothing will change for the better. Perhaps more people will take public transportation as a result, but that's not remotely good enough compared to how much we are, and will be, suffering.
  22. It has nothing to do with making the city healthier. The smoking ban has been implemented because Cleveland's so-called leaders are too afraid (or perhaps too spiteful) to address the real issues plaguing our city; instead, they'd rather focus their attentions on something that, along with the trans fats ban, really doesn't mean jacksh!t on any major level. Kind of like how some Republicans like to focus on flagburning or Obama's birth certificate, which are silly but often effective distractions from other issues they don't want to be involved in. This whole issue is a waste of time and effort.
  23. I knew someone who lived in a house, really a quite beautful one, off w65 pretty close to battery park. I think the house cost her $50,000 after you take into account various tax credits and home incentive buyer programs she used. But you're telling me $225k is the average, even with new construction? I hope they're selling, cause I don't know anyone who can afford that in that area, especially with nice, far cheaper places a block or two away.
  24. I saw the interview with the passenger-not that sympathetic. That drudge report footage of the transgender woman being assaulted is about as scary and depressing as anything I've ever seen online.
  25. I had Gabinet, even managed to squeeze out a CALI. He was a fine professor, but I didn't really view him as any better or worse than most other professors. From my perspective, he more or less just regurgitated cases pretty much in line with previous semester's outlines. Maybe he was a tad more intimidating than other professors. Certainly not nearly as bad/rough/scary as Business Associations with what's-his-face. Older guy. Scary guy. Scariest guy. Can't think of his name off the top of my head, but man oh man, you better Pass/No credit that class. Now taking international law with Scharf. THAT was a heck of a class. That plus counter-terrorism with Guiora were my favorites.
