  1. Hey Cleveland, stop shrinking! Wow, it worked. This Richard Florida is onto something:)
  2. As a graduate of Case's law school in '07, let me be blunt--and yes, pretty negative. The school is a scam as the supposed employment and salary results are completely misleading, unrepresentative, and even potentially fraudulent. Several of my un/underemployed peers have begun preliminaries for a civil action against the school (which I don't see as going anywhere, but still, to even look into such a claim...) Some of the administration is truly incompetent, with one individual well known for being a true nightmare for students and faculty alike. If you went to the law school in the last 10 or 15 years, you know EXACTLY who I am talking about. This rough guy (and his psycho secretary) is pretty much the Cleveland Water Department embodied in one individual, and his still working there is a reason a number of alums refuse to even think about almuni donations. The cost of the school is far too high considering the mind-boggling number of adjuncts who are doing the job of professors, not to mention the disastrous employment and salary numbers. If you are not in the top 10 or 20 percent, you might as well not exist to the career center. I'm talking about noticeable indifference and recycled advice/packets that benefit a fraction of a fraction of students who aren't in the top of the class. So life isn't easy and you have to do things on your own - fine, nothing is guaranteed. But the career center should then be considered an unnecessary expense and disbanded, based on their ineffectiveness. At least one of my professors - again, if you're a student in the last 5 or 10 years you might know who I'm talking about - had a thing for directly coming on students in the other Case graduate programs and inviting them to his home (he was smart enough to stay away from his Case students). Whether or not that violates school policy is irrelevant; it's simply unethical and gross, not to mention his having a wife and kid...doesn't help. In all fairness, he no longer works there, so at least someone finally got a clue. The inability to retain professors and deans is just shocking, and probably speaks to considerable background and administrative turmoil. I cannot imagine their turnover is comparable to other schools. The medical school is fantastic; undergraduate is very good; business school above average; and other graduate programs excellent. But the law school is really a black eye, as I'm sure fairly recent grads would attest.
  3. No, google earth has it right. Key Tower was taken down for minor renovations last week, but they'll put it up again in a few days. I think Cleveland Scene reported it briefly.

In response to the title of the thread, I will say that the rising fuel prices have affected my going out to restaurants, specifically in E4, Tremont and Chagrin Falls (with the occasional exception). It's just hard to warrant driving around and trying new restaurants, which tend to be a bit pricey in the first place - at least for someone who is happy with a can of tuna and maybe some veggies on the side - when I have to fill up every 4 or 5 days. It's like a psychological, perhaps even irrational, fear of driving and spending even more money if I don't really have to, at least with gas at this level, and I have been visiting restaurants far less frequently in the last few months than the last few years.
  5. Not crazy about the bases loaded opportunities we've blown the last few games.
  6. LaPorta scoring on that balk....I can't remember the last time I saw something like that on a key play. This whole series - weird, but fun
  7. Hey, what time is the garage sale? I was going to be in that area this weekend, might be fun:)
  8. Bit of a wild one tonight, but Carrasco looked solid, the bullpen was good, even with a jam or two, and Grady and LaPorta looked damn good. And with Colorado's loss, we are now (tied) the BEST TEAM IN THE MLB!!!!!!!!
  9. Thanks for those 70s/80s shots - SO COOL! Beauty in grime
  10. I'll have to check out Jeni's later this week. Thanks for the update.
  11. Kansas series is gonna be exciting
  12. So who is our new fifth man?
  13. I can only hope it matches the elegance and asthetics of the gorgeous Severance outdoor mall nearby.
  14. Haffner !
  15. Masterful!
  16. That's what she said!
  17. I did laugh at this comment: "Maybe she can move to Cleveland and run for city council, maybe even mayor...."

Very true. The GOP has really been indoctrinated by the idiots - the ultra religious (though not really religious considering how vile so many are. Jesus himself would be ashamed with his so-called followers), the selfish (government spending is bad with the exception of MY entitlement handout), the delusional (suck up to the rich since they might be of that crowd someday. Oh sure.), the irrational (damn you liberals and Obama for destroying my 1950s perception of what America should be), the ignorant (wah, illegal immigration is destroying our country. Clearly we need more money spent at the border), the hypocrites (wah, where are all the American businesses. Oh well, off to Wall-Mart), and ultimately the stupid (Obama is a socialist, no wait, communist, no wait, elitist, no wait, fascist). The good Republicans are too afraid to attack their own, and so we get this radically increasing rise of GOP-etards. It's a damn shame too:(

Why do I feel Kasich is one of those guys who doesn't have the problem with the ethics of an employer getting a huge bonus for firing his staff. He really is a loathsome person - war on teachers/cops/firefighters/middle class, needlessly jeopardizing our casinos while hiring TWO consulting groups for a total of $800/hr to do god knows what for as long as they want, foolishly eliminating the 3C project despite oil and gas's accelerating increases, being fairly undiplomatic in a world where that's just not acceptable, ties to Lehman brothers and Wall Street goons who have contributed to this global decline, hiring friends at ludicrous wages while chastising other public workers and unions, history of improper campaign solicitations.....jesus, the list just goes on and on.

http://morristsai.com/2011/03/cleveland-leader-john-kasich-d.html Cleveland Leader: John Kasich Defends Increasing Salaries of His Top Staff " S trickland's Chief of Staff John Haseley makes $122,990/year but Kasich's incoming Chief of Staff Beth Hansen is going to receive $170,000. This is more money than every cabinet member but 3, more than the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, more than the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Attorney General, Treasurer, Auditor, Speaker and Senate President! For his long-time friend and the second half of his two man office at Lehman, John Kasich made up a brand new position: Special Assistant to the Governor. And a brand new salary as well: $145,000."

Of course I would really like our governor to give his cabinet substantial raises while attacking teachers and police officers for high pay. Clearly that will remedy our state's financial woes.

I'd like to see wider highways with more lanes, along with continual effective anti-drug laws
  23. I actually don't mind yesterday's loss. Carmona's performance more than made up for the lack of hitting.

    Good luck with that, Marsh
