  1. I've been driving a 94 Camry since 1998, and my parents had bought it in either '93 or '94. Yeah it's needed some work at times, and i'll probably buy a new vehicle around the 250,000 mark next year. But that's only out of necessity, not luxury. Whatever the appeal of buying the latest and greater car is, I just don't see it. Seems like a lot of these cars, at least the high end models and gas guzzlers, are a waste of money and negative investment
  2. I'm not saying to quit eating foods with carbohydrates. It's just that you can get enough of them from healthy stuff like fruits, veggies, milk, and certain grains, yet I see a lot of people way overindulging on them, especially with booze, bread, noodles, and desserts. I know that I got considerably more cut when I cut out breads, alcohol, desserts, and to a lesser degree noodles. Of course I'll occasionally break that fast but only as a rare luxury or reward. I've heard mixed things about late night eating. I guess it comes down to your metabolism and what you're specifically eating at night. For me, I feel a little bloated and fat after having a large meal at night - it's easy to gorge when you're half asleep and starving - and so I try just to stay in bed or at least eat stuff like cottage cheese in limited amounts
  3. I lift pretty seriously (plus swim, box and dance some), and I can tell you guys that working out means absolutely nothing if you're not dieting right. That means cutting down on carbs (I quit booze and bread earlier this year), trans fats, eating lighter meals, and for gods sake don't pig out at night. I always see people killing themselves on treadmills and ellipticals day in day out with no progress, and I just know that they're not eating right. Again, without dieting, you're never going to get cut or see any substantial results. Also, 6 days in the gym isn't counter productive if you're working on different muscle groups or doing different workouts all together. I like to do something, really anything, at least once a day so that I'm sweating or getting a good heartbeat, and as long as you're isolating your muscles and changing up the workouts, 6 days is not overkill.

I've got that series on my iPhone (thank god for drinkmalk.com). The problem is there are just too many awesome series out there!

Also, I just finished up the Dresden Files. Very fun series.

The TSA is not imposing these pat-downs to combat terrorism; rather, it is a misguided attempt to be overly sensitive to Muslims and people with Arab descent. From the perspective of the TSA and perhaps society in general these days, it's often better to ignore reality and pragmatism so that no single group can be offended without others being pissed too. Better everyone is needless angry, right. TSA agents are not patting little kids or grannies in wheelchairs because of any legitimate fear of bombs; rather, it's the never ending concern that Muslims, super liberals, and other hypersensitive people will start chanting Racist or Bigot or Profiling if we start using common sense. And because that fear of being perceived a racist/bigot is so strong, well, we have these stupid and unnecessary procedures. We are not safer for it by any means - it's just a waste of time and proof that our country is blind to reality all too often.

Body cavities are presumably next, even the TSA rep said they're not in the cards right now Personally, I am boycotting the airlines (megabus and driving take me to where I need to go - Im sort of a 400 miles kind of guy) and I refuse to be molested for the sake of political correctness.
  8. Funny thing about the Pinnacle bulding - I went to a Halloween party at one of the upper suites in '09 there, and the host actually hired prostitutes! People were also doing blow in the bathroom of what had to be a $750g condo! Crazy scene, as i've never been to a party like that.
  9. Well, the crap economy has screwed up plans to hire my company's contractors fulltime (though there are some nice labor savings), and we're delaying plans to find office space (doing the whole work from home/free wifi venues still). Plus business is extremely erratic - some very good weeks, some weeks of $0 - so I guess I'm in the category of f this economy. However, there are some theoretical benefits to this bad economy that we are seeing. No jobs equals more kids in school, which is our bread and butter. Plus some international newspapers are outsourcing their work to us since they need to cut labor costs drastically. So there are some advantages to this depression and we are maybe 4 or 5 clients away from realizing them
  10. It's a cool shot of downtown - interesting angle. I almost didn't recognize it

Destroyer, Prey, Reacher, and Alex Cross series
  12. As of now, University Circle has a kind of momentum that is rare and remarkable when you consider the fact that we are a poor city in the middle of a long suffering rust belt in the middle of a global depression. It just doesn't make any sense to move the Children's museum from it's well situated area to the Flats. Despite the city's love of the word 'district', we only really have two true ones: Theater and Arts. The others are really just districts in name only. Why support moving one of the staples of our arts district (my term for UC) to the Flats which has a more adult allure right now and the foreseeable future. Why play musical chairs because of (let's be honest guys) doubtful project for an aquarium? Why support stepping on UC's momentum? Keep the museums nice and close to each other. Keep UC a complete destination for museum hopping for people who want to hang around there all day.

There are some flash games where you can kill that damn dog too.
  14. Not sure why people are getting a chip on their shoulder about this. It's laughable that the museum would move out there, and we all know it.
  15. Before and after seeing Billy Elliot last night, I definitely saw a lot of Cleveland love inside and outside the theater.
  16. Damn, one share of BH is over $120,000. I'll listen to this guy over anyone
  17. Just a couple brief, late reviews. A friend and I went to the Silver Spartan Diner at Case on Saturday. We got seats immediately, the waitress was incredibly friendly, and the food was okay. I mean, let's be honest, it was diner food - we're not looking for a 5 star meal or anything. The coffee was free and despite the restaurant getting busier as the late morning progressed, the waitress was always around with a full pot. Damn good service and we tipped her very well! Last Tuesday or Wednesday, I hit up Algebra in Little Italy. It's a very cool, Coventry-ish coffee shop and the food is pretty good too. I had some kind of hummus dish and a strange pepper coconut coffee that was absolutely revolting until I poured enough sugar, honey, and creamer to minute the taste. It's not the restaurant's fault - just not my kind of drink. Finally, last Tuesday I had a quick lunch at these Chinese buffet place on E12. Not the best food or service, but okay for what it was.
  18. Well, at least now we'll be spared the would-be inevitable George Forbes & Friends press conference on the racist policies of the RTA.
  19. I figure it must have been recent. I was out there maybe three weeks ago and it was open.
  20. And thank you, KJP. You're probably 90% of the reason I changed my mind about the trainline.
  21. Yeah.
  22. Well, as long as we're posting personal stories, here's the letter I sent a few days ago. Note - I have completely changed my tune about the train over the past 6 months and am now a major proponent. Dear Governor Kasich: As a 28-year-old small business owner located in a Cleveland suburb, I would to express my utter disappointment in your refusing federal funds for the train line. I personally have a number of clients at OSU and UC, and I regularly drive out to see some of my larger clients first hand. For a long time, I was encouraged and excited about this train line, which would have allowed me the opportunity to save on gas, wear-and-tear, general stress, and I would have been able to work on the trains going to see my clients. All of these factors would benefit my business in so many ways. And this was when the trainline was rumored to run at an average 39mph including stops, whereas of course now that number has gone up quite a bit. To be blunt, Ohio is a very unattractive place to work. Blame it on the weather, the union strongholds, the remarkable amount of corruption, the multitude of taxes, racial divides (and hatred all too often), dwindling property values, never-ending brain drain, aging population, and a general lack of momentum, Ohio may not have a real future. I'm from here because my family is here, but my friends have mostly moved to other states, and there are a million people like me. I stuck it out because I believe things can improve, and one of those reasons is innovation, that the state can take the necessary risks for financial improvement. Such as the advancement of a train-line that connects the three major cities. Now the project is more or less a dead horse, and this is just wrong. Governor, you have to give people like me a reason to stay, and I don't see how sending $400 million already earmarked funds to New York is going to do that. Additionally, you should not have asked for the money to be reallocated because I'm sure you've read the bill and you knew exactly that the money was locked up. It was an obvious political ploy and not worthy of you. Small business owners in their twenties - we're the future of the state, well, at least we have to be, and you have to make us want to stay. You can only cut taxes and spending so much (and by the way, I'm far more concerned with the unacceptable military spending and farm subsidizations that so many Republicans just accept), and that doesn't seem to always work - look at Indiana as an example of how tax cuts are not everything. For me to stay here, the state has to do right by me, and if you look at what's happening in Cleveland, you'll see nothing but failure on a local and state level. Of course some good things are happening here and there, most notably in University Circle, but by and large, there is no reason to stay. People don't want to be here and they're leaving in droves. Governor, people like trains, people want trains, and people will use trains. At least I will. Please do the right thing for your state.
  23. The gelato place by Joe Beth is also closed now.
  24. This is just unbelievable. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/11/post_392.html RTA board tables proposed crackdown on juvenile fare violators "CLEVELAND, Ohio -- RTA's board voted this morning to table, and effectively kill, a proposal to crack down on juveniles who ride rapid-transit lines without paying. RTA Board Chairman George Dixon said he worried that the policy would land disproportionately on young, black males." It seems like race is always on the tip of everyone's tongues in this city, even when it has not a damn thing to do with the issue. This Dixon guy is an idiot.
  25. The 39 mph estimate really was damaging - good point. I also think, at least with people in Northeast Ohio, that the RTA has also stigmatized large, taxpaid public transportation projects. We already have one of those trainlines to nowhere (the Flats/E9) line that's occasional Browns games use cannot possibly be worth the millions it cost to make. Fair or not and for reasons all over the RTA forum on UO, people in NEO loathe the RTA and, from what I've seen and heard directly, by extension are very suspicious of areawide public transportation in general.
