Very true. I believe Greene was at a dental appointment at the medical building there.

New York City: Developments and News
I find this to be incredibly insensitive. Imagine if we built a mosque at the Pentagon (yeah there is a tiny cultural center one, but I'm talking about a 100 million dollar project)? Or at the Shanksville crash site? Can you imagine if a German cultural museums were built in the early 1950s by the concentration camp sites? ... What if we had built an American heritage museum in Nagasaki or Hiroshima 9 years after the atom bomb? How about a Japanese Shinto shrine right dead center of Nanking in the early 1950s (I'm referring to the Rape of Nanking here btw)? Not to mention the concerns with terrorist organizations funding this mosque through various channels directly or indirectly. Not to mention the repeated anti-American rhetoric and propaganda that goes on in many many MANY of the mosques within our borders. Not to mention this Feisal Abdul Rauf character and his questionable international ties, opinions on 9/11Hamas/Hezbollah/anti Western World philosophies... Sometimes common sense has to be a factor in decision-making, and this mosque is just a slap in the face to most non-Muslims in America, certainly New Yorkers. It's not necessary for cultural relations and this is not the time. Mr. Toby Ziegler got it right: TOBY - Well... How about when we, instead of blowing Iraq back to the seventh century for harbouring te...rrorists and trying to develop nuclear weapons, we just imposed economic sanctions and were reviled by the Arab world for not giving them a global charge card and a free trade treaty? How about when we pushed Israel to give up land for peace? TOBY - How about when we sent American soldiers to protect Saudi Arabia, and the Arab world told us we were desecrating their holy land? We'll ignore the fact that we were invited. How about two weeks ago, in the State of the Union when the President praised the Islamic people as faithful and hardworking only to be denounced in the Arab press as knowing nothing about Islam? But none of that is the point. TOBY- I don't remember having to explain to Italians that our problem wasn't with them, but with Mussolini! Why does the U.S. have to take every Arab country out for an ice cream cone? They'll like us when we win! TOBY - Thousands of madrassahs teaching children nothing, nothing, nothing but the Koran and to hate America. Who do we see about that? Do I want to preach America? Judeo-Christianity? No. If their religion forbids them from playing the trumpet, so be it. But I want those kids to... look at a globe. Be exposed to social sciences, history. Some literature. I'll like us when we win.

I was at the one in Strongsville a few months ago. Though expensive, it really can hit the spot.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Hey, I'm glad you guys are fine with our winters, though this is starting to be a silly discussion that's not really worth getting heated over. I'm just saying that I, and undoubtedly a lot of people, don't feel the same way

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
The winters are pretty awful here and we get a ton of gray, depressing days, plus the bad weather seems to go on half a year. I understand the need to defend Cleveland for some things, but the weather, in particular the winter, is really indefensible.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Stupid, unethical and outright illegal use of tax revenue certainly harms the taxpayers and city as a whole for a lot of obvious reasons, not to mention overall morale and business climate desirability.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
C'mon dude, you know that posting a video like that is (a) a slight to Clevelanders and thus (b) inappropriate for this specific forum. There have to be half a dozen other forums where a video like this better sits. It's an historic football moment and pretty funny but not at all relevant for this forum; it does not match the "I Love Cleveland" theme whatsoever. Use your head a little.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
I don't think we can separate county and city when talking about corruption. I seriously doubt there would ever be a list for worst counties in the country; rather, the term 'city' should be used loosely here. For example, I don't think you can separate Dimora, Hogan, and Jones from the city. The Cuyahoga County corruption IS Cleveland corruption. And regarding City Hall, while I haven't heard anything about Frank or Jane per se that suggests they themselves are crooks (Mike is a very different story but I don't want to go too far back), there are plenty of articles about city hall corruption, be it direct or indirect: http://clevelandmagazinepolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/city-hall-corruption-scandal-grows-feds.html City Hall corruption scandal grows: feds charge more inspectors No, it's not some little offshoot of the county investigation. Cleveland City Hall has its own corruption probe on its hands -- an FBI sting of the city's building and housing department, complete with lots of video and audio surveillance and an undercover agent posing as a New York businessman. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/04/cleveland_city_council_preside_2.html Cleveland City Council President Martin J. Sweeney says money from contractor was campaign contributions CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland City Council President Martin J. Sweeney says the money he received from a prospective city contractor -- and mentioned in a telephone conversation tapped by federal corruption investigators -- was campaign donations. http://www.cleveland.com/cityhall/index.ssf/2010/03/city_of_cleveland_fires_commun.html Cleveland fires manager of city's mortgage-assistance program, disciplines her bosses CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The city of Cleveland has fired the manager of a federally funded mortgage-assistance program for improperly trying to give herself a city loan and has suspended her two bosses for failing to intervene.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
While i agree that the political corruption stigma is subjective, you cannot deny the incredible and growing amount of reported and anecdotal amount of graft and scumbaggery that exists on every major level of public employment - auditors, county engineers, harbors, waterworks, education, public safety, judicial system, energy commission, public utilities, board of health, etc. Similar malevolence exists in other cities no doubt, but at this level? Eventually the national media will have to take notice of this epidemic, and in all honesty we Clevelanders dont really give this problem the attention it deserves

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
Another cheery list to start the weekend. I know people say these lists don't matter but they're still hurtful and depressing and it's hard to argue with the criterion: "high taxes, lousy weather, political corruption and lousy sports teams." The political corruption here cannot be trumped: one of Feagler's guests talked about an FBI friend of his telling him that there is not one single other city like Cleveland with the kind of corruption at every single damn level. Chicago and Newark may be bad, but Cleveland is at a level of its own, according to this guy. We talk a lot about crimes, racial tensions, unemployment, awful schools, taxes insanity, but it's really those scumbags that work for the city and county that have raped Cleveland more than anything else. It all starts with them, and everyone in the area has suffered as a result. Getting off that rant, the most shocking thing on the list is that El Centro has unemployment levels of over 27 percent (the site has a link). You can probably double that in terms of underemployment - that's just shocking and third world country levels. http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/cleveland-ranks-%232-on-%27worst-places-to-live%27-list Cleveland ranks #2 on 'worst places to live' list CLEVELAND - According to one survey, Cleveland is among some of the "worst places to live" in the U.S. Cleveland came in second place on the list--Detroit, Mich. was a close third. First on the list was El Centro, Calif. According to U.S. Census records, roughly 2,600 people left Cleveland in 2009, the largest numerical drop among America's major cities.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
I'm surprised to hear Barnes & Noble is putting a store there, especially now that they're trying to find a buyer. Expansion is probably not the most prudent thing to do, and I wouldn't be surprised if they bail.

Cleveland: Whiskey Island Coast Guard Station Redevelopment
I cannot answer that; however, I will say that I was playing volleyball that Sunday afternoon (before the leagues came in at 4) and noticed a lot of people - families in particular - walking to the abandoned station (where I presume the festival was taking place). From my vantage point, it was hard to tell how many people were there, but there was a consistent stream of people walking by the courts to get there and it seemed the later it got, the more showed up.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Just by chance, I sat next to Romeo Crennel at Flemings in Woodmere last week. We both had bar menu food (pretty good quality for only $6) and the restaurant has these fantastic chips they make every morning. Romeo was a pretty cool guy and the food was outstanding - I had a yummy tuna platter and cheeseburger with blackened bacon. Not sure what Romeo had - we just exchanged some minor pleasantries, and he was there with friends, so I didn't bug him outside of saying hi and joking about the chips. A really nice experience all in all.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I just had dinner at Taste, which is a nice restaurant in the Cedar/Lee neighborhood in Cleveland Heights. The food is really good, especially their burgers and fries; however, it is a little pricey, especially for the portion sizes. $16 is a little steep for the burger and fries, however fancy they're doctored up, and this is the second cheapest entree they have. I noticed pretty good happy prices as well, and the ambiance is great! Very nice staff too And there you have it:)

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
I understand there is a movie being filmed today and tomorrow that involves salsa dancing. I actually salsa dance with the movie's choreographer and one of the extras - I think filming is downtown on East 50something? It's definitely an independent film, and I have no idea what the movie is about, exactly where it's being shot, or if it's being filmed in Cleveland entirely, but there is something going on...somewhere and it involves a lot of dancing.

Cleveland: Young & urban neighborhoods
Little Italy for all the aforementioned reasons and then some: cheap as hell, absolutely phenomenal location (you can visit your parents in 20 minutes on the East or hit up Lakewood in 20 minutes on the West), outstanding restaurants, nothing but young people and cool old school Italians, extremely low crime rates (lowest in all Cleveland neighborhoods perhaps?), Healthline, rapid, University Circle attractions, 5 minutes from Coventry, 15 from downtown, pretty cementary nearby, and once again Cheap Cheap Cheap.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Just to add to the negativity a little, I admit Hopkins is pretty embarrassing when compared to other airports due to poor architectural and aesthetic designs. That said, it's great they are embracing healthier food choices and other concession investments. This article is a pleasant surprise and this is a good step to improving the facilities in total.

I meant the club owners should have dress codes on their own. Perhaps they could collude and ensure that everyone maintains a strict dress code, which will have a huge deterring effect on fights. You never see guys in slacks beating on each other. And if you enforce curfew laws, that should take care of some of the problems on the street itself.
