  1. ^ Regarding your former point, I, and someone else on these forums, had emailed Robert N. Brown, Director of Cleveland City Planning Commission about our concerns, and he sent us some bush league, POINTLESS, and virtually identical response which reads more like a form than an actual caring message. So that's at least $10 bucks you owe... I attached his response (juts copy and pasted from a few pages ago) 'Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the future of Euclid Avenue in Midtown. The City continues to support the vision of Euclid Avenue in Midtown as a place for mixed-use development, with offices, housing and retail, in a pedestrian-oriented/ transit-oriented development. We are confident that the recently proposed uses can be designed and sited in a manner that will contribute to realizing this vision for Euclid Avenue. We will continue working to pursue development that is in accordance with the plan and the zoning for Midtown. Please feel free to get back to me if you have further comments. Again, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.' Robert N. I can't stand people who laugh obnoxiously and inappropriately. I went to my niece's play today and there was this old guy who wouldn't shut up. He laughed at everything (like every minute for an hour) and did so loudly, so much that it actually disrupted the play(s) at times. And the most bizarre part was that he turned out to be one of the counselors. He should have know better.
  3. I'm probably going to repeat what some of the posters have already said, but my problem with subsidized housing is that they seem have a disproportionate amount of problems than other properties. And it would just be nice to have a really nice area without any fears of that kind of disruption, which I had believed was the point of the Euclid Avenue Project. When I think mixed use neighborhoods, which was what this project was supposed to encourage, I do NOT think of housing projects. I would never move my fledgling business into an area where my employees and I would have, in addition to other stresses, to worry about our neighbors. A lot of money went into this project, and it was supposed to cater to the middle and upper class for once. Of course lots of nice people live in Section 8 housing and lots of jerks live in private residence. But let's be realisitic. A lot of these criminals, certainly a disproportionate, get to go home to their subsidized housing at the end of the day. I just want somewhere classy and safe that doesn't have to cater to the poor. Just ONE place. I want the OLD Euclid Avenue, the kind I was not around to experience, and subsidized housing is the opposite that. I mean, look at the dump on West 25th - I have friends in that area that tell me all kinds of horror stories about that building and its residents, and I'm just tired of it. It seems like a lot of Cleveland caters primarily to those who need subsidized housing, and I just wanted Euclid Avenue to be something different:( Maybe it will, but this is a terrible terrible start, and since the project was mostly federally funded, I wish someone in DC would take notice and perhaps do something about it i.e. "Dear Cleveland, we didn't spend all that money for this. Regards, Hillary" Something like that.
  4. Subsidized housing is far more troubling than mental hospitals. That's my real fear.
  5. I disagree. Sometimes a little feel good fluff goes a long way
  6. .....Editor Susan Goldberg of the Plain Dealer call to say that the attempt to lure resident out of Cleveland by an “over aggressive” salesperson was sent to only one mayor – in Rocky River and has been stopped. Ms. Goldberg said that it was an “error in judgment” and that the PD yesterday apologized to Mayor Frank Jackson of Cleveland. Goldberg said that this had been “nipped in the bud” and “not part of the philosophy or strategy” of the Plain Dealer....... What else are they supposed to after the fact? A mistake happened and they rectified it. It's essentially a retraction and I don't see what else they can do beyond the 'they should have never done it in the first place', which isn't really an option at this point.
  7. I'll play devil's advocate and say you guys are overreacting a little. I understand the harmful implications of these kinds of ads and overall negative slant, but people here are being a little too sensitive and dramatic. The PD f'd up, they acknowledged it, they are making amends, and that's that. Harping on this kind of stuff isn't helpful and just further builds this overall negative vibe. Has anyone here even read these actual articles in their primary forms or was the cleveland.com blurb where we first heard of it?

Nice topic. Hmmmm Diamond Men's Club (a strip club in the Flats) has some absolutely delicious food during weekday happy hours and it's free! Free parking, free cover, 2 dollar domestics, and really good free food during something like 5-7.
  9. The Michael Vick sentence was beyond ludicrous. 23 months for dog fighting? Wasn't Stallworth in jail for 18 days?

Though I haven't done this since the early 2000s, I used to go with my family to Tower City on New Years Eve every year. Great times; very beautiful interior
  11. The market is over 9000!
  12. I don't see anything evolved about those scumbags' sentences. They are in no way proportionate to the crimes and in four years that one guy is going to be out and committing who knows what against innocent people. The problem with the law and sentencing is that it is completely short sighted. We give the bad guys the benefits of the doubt after they leave prison (unless you're a sex offender) and are then somehow surprised with recidivism rates??? Also, the constitution is completely broken right now and since there are so many different, contradicting approaches (some do literal translations, some see it as an evolving doctrine, some look to the founder's intentions), there is undoubtedly no consensus. Personally, I couldn't care less what a bunch of 250 year old men meant or intended since life is very different now than then. In my opinion, we have to use common sense above everything else, even at the expense of due process, which means that if I put a knife to someone's throat (along with other crimes), it's worth a hell of a lot more than 4 years.
  13. It is sad that our society, at least the one's who make the decisions, believes that protecting rights of the guilty is more important than that of the innocent. We put drug dealers and users away for god knows how many years while real criminals often get relatively easier sentences.
  14. It's a cool idea, but I don't see that happening .4 miles is a long distance for some people.
  15. East 4th
  16. I don't want to give any legitimacy to bs rumors, but was there some kind of violent racial incident at Little Italy a few weeks back? A friend of mine said he read on cleveland.com (I looked and couldn't find any verification) that some LI residents brutally attacked a young black man and then his white friend who came to break it up. Has anyone heard anything like this? This kind of stuff is usually easy to find on the PD, here, cleveland.com, the news, but I haven't heard ANY corroborations.
  17. Some of those comments on cleveland.com....wow. But there are some legitimate concerns, most obvious and somewhat easy/realistic to fix is with drivers double tasking (cell phone use should not only be prohibited but also punishable by suspension and then eventual firings) and letting people on for free. But man, then there's that 18 million budget deficit. I don't have any solutions for that, at least nothing immediate.

If you're also in the market for a new phone as well, I believe the new Sony Ericksons have 12.1 megapixel cameras
  19. I accept Ohio's image as being somewhat negative (based on economy, weather, jobs leaving, young people leaving, taxes, crime, yadda yadda). I just don't understand why it always has to be referred, even in positive articles like this.
  20. "Like most folks who heard the news, I was dumbstruck. Ohio? " I'm sick of shit*y comments like that. Completely unnecessary and hurtful
  21. Yep.
  22. Hitting Shooters with my girl and a few friends on Friday! Wish there were more places like that in the Flats like in the old days
  23. I got a VERY similar same email response from Bob Brown as did Oldmanladyluck 'Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the future of Euclid Avenue in Midtown. 24. ^I wouldn't go that far, but it is certainly far more harmful than beneficial to the city. Who would want to start a small business nextdoor to a psychiatric hospital? Who would want to build middle class residences across the street from facilities like that?
