Even if the poster didn't complain to management (and maybe he did - after all, he alludes to contacting the Plain Dealer about a follow up so he's clearly proactive), that shouldn't invalidate these his criticisms and I can't believe you two (well, more so jpop) are practically accusing him of irresponsibility. All he did was detail precisely what the problems were. His post doesn't have to spell out what he's done; it's simply an angry observation on what the problems are, which I, and probably other viewers, find helpful since I'm always curious what downtown living is like. I mean, I'd rather know what the apartment's problems are rather than nothing at all.

2008, a retrospective.
The year began badly and ended horribly. I think most of us can agree 2008 was awful for Ohio, America, and perhaps most of the world.

It was ridiculous on Saturday night and I wish I had taken a shot of that line. The prices there aren't all that bad either - not sure where else you can get a red bull for $2.

Went to Caddy Ranch on Saturday. Holy crap was that place big. When I left (around 12), the line was practically from Tower City to the door, no joke. There must have been 750-1000 people inside and out, which really livened up Public Square. I was also amazed how nice some of the bars were inside (though not so much the restaurant part), and the outdoor patio was really nice too. I I just hope this place was drawing in new people and not just absorbing some of the Warehouse regulars.

Cleveland: 2009 Mayoral Election
"It's hard to see any challenger on the horizon who can compete with those numbers in a city where 54 percent of the 438,000 residents are minorities." I may be mistaken here, but isn't that from the 2000 Census and that right now it's 67% minority?

They are in no position for expansion, not to mention I'm not crazy about OUR money now going to poorly paid Chinese workers. This is clearly not a short-term downturn as Mr. Wales states, and GM should be consolidating and contracting rather than spreading out their costs even more. I can't imagine China's sales' improvements as long lasting as they have had contraction the the fourth quarter and 2009 isn't looking so pretty EDIT: I should follow up that I really really hope I'm wrong

Oh for crying out loud.... GM Opens Eighth China Plant, Won't Add Further Capacity Soon By Tian Ying Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. opened its eighth vehicle plant in China and said it had no plans for adding further capacity amid slowing demand in Asia's biggest auto market. "This has been a big year in terms of expansion and it probably will keep us occupied for the foreseeable future,'' Kevin Wale, GM China's president, said by phone today. He spoke from the northeastern city of Shenyang after the opening of the carmaker's new 2.67 billion yuan ($390 million) plant. GM expects to boost China sales about 9 percent next year as it adds new models and an economic stimulus plan helps revive overall demand. Auto sales in China have declined in three of the past four months because of the global economic slowdown. GM, the biggest overseas automaker in China, is counting on emerging markets and U.S. aid to help it survive a plunge in North American sales. The Detroit-based automaker expects to sell as many as 1.2 million vehicles in China next year, Wale said on Dec. 5. And another thing, I am tired of people acting like because the unions did the nation a great service earlier this century, then to blame them for ANYTHING would invalidate the earlier good they've done. That's almost as dumb as that insulting 'you're either pro Iraq war or anti troops' mentality Whooops:) And I can't stand when people talk about how the autoworkers deserve to make a good salary, good benefits, yadda yadda as if they're the only ones. Guess what, a lot of EVERYONE ELSE WHO WORKS HARD deserves the same thing, only they're not getting it because they don't have the same pull as Big Auto or UAW.

"I know the Big Three filing Chapter 11 or godforbid Chapter 7 claims would spell the death of a lot of towns, perhaps even a significant portion of the midwest, but that's the price of capitalism. It sucks, it's perhaps even unfair, but it simply is." "To hell with capitalism then. What's the system there for, if not to create general prosperity? If it fails to do that, then use a different tool." Honestly, I hope that someone comes into the fields that some of you work in with employees making less money and benefits. Then we'll see what your opinions are on the matter. Till then, all I'm hearing is "let them eat cake"." My company has informed us, not surprisingly, that there will be no raises or bonuses this year, both of which were certainly anticipated 11 months ago. As such, my coworkers and I are essentially making less money, and you know what, I accept that because it's better than being laid off.

^^^So are you saying that because someone presently or in the past worked for the Big Three, then he is entitled to a bailout as opposed to people who've been layed off or struggled in EVERY other profession. Should Big Auto always be bailed because there are cities/towns that refused to diversify and instead put all their eggs in one basket and refused to branch out due to some old school, blue collar mentality that things will be the same, that manufacturing will return, etc??? Are those cities/towns more special than other cities/towns that have suffered due to this severe recession but aren't dependent on Big Auto??? I have blue and white collar friends left and right either being laid off or in serious jeapordy of losing their jobs, but because they don't work for the Big Three or in Wall Street, they are on their own. That's just insane.

I'm expressing enormous disappointment in the bailout because, at least from its description on cnn, it's not addressing any of the real problems. My god, the unions even refused to spell out any concessions UNTIL the loan was in place because they knew they would get bailed out (the threat of 20+% unemployment is very scary to politicians) and could maintain their bluff until the loans came through. Instead of playing the negative card - insulting the "Toyota Republicans" - or playing up some sense of patritoism - i.e. look at the good the unions did all those years ago - the UAW should have cemented compromises before the $17 billion loan as an act of good faith. These maddening legacy costs should have immediately been wiped out or at least suspended until companies become viable (as if in March 31, 2009, everyone's going to be driving a Buick). I know the Big Three filing Chapter 11 or godforbid Chapter 7 claims would spell the death of a lot of towns, perhaps even a significant portion of the midwest, but that's the price of capitalism. It sucks, it's perhaps even unfair, but it simply is. All that said, I am very proud of Ford's actions overall and I may consider a Taurus when I need a new car.

Pet Peeves!
Unnecessary political correctness For examples: Anyone who refers to him/herself as a person of color Anyone who is offended for being called a Jew but is okay with being called jewish Anyone who is offended with being called blind or deaf but instead wishes to be referred to as seeing or hearing impaired. That one in particular gets to me since I only have half my hearing. I've never referred to myself as hearing impaired or partially hearing impaired - I'm half deaf. End of story!
