  1. Telling anecdotes or reporting crimes is one thing. Fair game. But this constant "why would anyone ever go downtown" repetition is getting old and feeling troll'ish. The same tirade, in conjunction with literally every post being negative, isn't constructive and contrasts the spirit of the website, even in a Crime forum.
  2. Because HR's and other business departments are known for oversensationalizing crimes? Hell, if anything they underreport matters to provide the illusion of safety inside and outside an office. As do cities.

Out of curiousity I've been watching some Mr. Beast videos. They're terrible. Boring. Visually unappealing. He's neither charismatic nor funny. His friends even less so, and the guy seems to pick on them (due to insecurity?) while they just laugh it off. A bit CKY/Viva La Bam'ish in that regard, minus the charm. I don't get the appeal. Now Caleb Pressley, his stuff is absolute gold, for example the Marshmellow and Kevin Gates interviews.
  4. Mass shootings are uncommon in downtown Cleveland, most downtowns frankly, and the panhandlers, as a whole, seem fewer in number compared to many other cities. At least in my experience. The recent attack was horrific but atypical at that scale. As for your comments about the glee workers have for suburban relocations, I'm sure there are wildly different reactions and no consensus. I do agree lawlessness is condoned and excused away. But that's not unique to Cleveland. America is pretty screwed up and ignorant when it comes to thug violence.

Beats extreme colds, but still abysmal weather.
  6. Fargo is one of the most stress free cities? I must have been watching a different show.
  7. Flying is an absolute nightmare, with these deregulated monstrosities making wrong decision after wrong decision -- and THIS is where they're directing their attention? American Airlines canceled a teenager's 'skiplagging' ticket after realizing he wasn't planning to board the connecting flight to New York: report (yahoo.com) https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/american-airlines-canceled-teenagers-skiplagging-072104882.html "But Parsons said the gate agent in Florida was doubtful of his son's final destination after seeing his North Carolina driver's license. The agent suspected the teenager wouldn't continue flying to New York City, per the report." The agent had nothing better to do than magically predict the kid was deviating from the travel plan?

The last 6 months I've been doing a lot of reading at the gym hot tub on a cheap kindle. It's a perfect way to wind down. Recently, I gave the Broken Earth book a shot and read 72% of it before giving up. The series has a lot of hype and awards... but just couldn't get into it. The basic premise of these humans, some with abilities, some normal, living on a planet that constantly has cataclysmic "seasons" is very interesting, but at the end of the day, I just didn't feel it. Perhaps I'll revisit it another time. Currently I'm racing through Dead of Night by Nora Roberts (under the J.D. Robb moniker). It's charming, fun, easy. Let's see... Deception Point and Digital Fortress were okay. Surrender, New York made me angry, and I gave up after reading just a little of it. Caleb Carr created this wonderful, untouched universe in the Alienist and Angel of Darkness -- and that's it. Full stop. I didn't want to read a contemporary book with references to Dr. Kriezler. I wanted to read another book set in late 19th century New York with all those fleshed out characters - Kreizler, Sara, Stevie, Marcus and Lucas, Roosevelt, and watch their adventures with real life figures. Surrender, New York was certainly not that. Also, I reread most of Stephen King's novellas. The Long Walk is still my favorite.

For a second I thought you said that was a Heinens joke, and I did not get it.
  10. Jesus what a season. But first place is first place. Jesus what a division.
  11. Which beach did you go to? I was up in Hollywood most of the afternoon.

Well, here's to hoping Threads kills Twitter once and for all. Any lender dumb or unethical enough to give Musk and his MAGA friends even a penny for the investment deserves what little they'll get post bankruptcy. And then let Threads die its own slow death. Humanity just isn't advanced enough for largescale social media.
  13. The paradox of tolerance.
  14. That's ridiculous victim-blaming nonsense akin to the schmucks suing Kia and Hyundai for a lack of immobilizer systems. It's just always someone else's fault, isn't it. I couldn't help but rape her your honor, for I have a sex addiction and society caused this and maybe racism and blah blah blah. Opportunistic contrarian assholes, emboldened by enablers and excuse-makers, share the blame solely.
  15. “These pay increases are about superficiality and about opportunistic politicians who are just trying to make a name for themselves..." Who gave this asshole a computer? $19 an hour isn't even $40,000 a year after taxes, and he's complaining? God forbid he pays his workers rather than taxpayers via supplemental Medicaid and SSI subsidies. And my hunch is West Hollywood isn't exactly a cheap place. No different than the conservative loons screaming about how businesses would collapse without child labor 100 years ago.

A slim fit suit works for all occasions.
  17. Yeah, I really miss that empty lot from July 2007.
  18. Uptown has a long, long, LONG way to go. Plenty of problems mostly east of Broadway, regardless of the occasional Wilson/Sheridan glass building or drag brunch. Irivng Park is fine. Gangs have been pushed west in Logan Square and Avondale. Good for them, bad for Hermosa and the west Belmont neighborhoods. Pilsen has got plenty of gunfire west of Ashland. And these "gentrified" areas still get abused plenty by their not-so-friendly neighbors south (and to a lesser degree west). Just look at the annual anarchy after Pride and the night after - not exactly a gay-friendly crowd after 5pm. The city has seen better days.

Wait... Harry Kim gets chastised for f-king an alien on Star Trek Voyager??? Who in God's name okayed that storyline and its contradictions to every interspecies romance preceding and subsequent.

Bankruptcies for me, not for thee. Billionaire assholes alllowed to skip rent and vendor payments to no consequence. Hundreds of billions in PPP "loans" gone into the ether. Not a big deal. Trillions disappeared into the military ether over the years. Don't worry about it. But students getting a modicum of breathing room from predatory interest rates -- the Supreme Court sexual predators and other deplorables put their foot down finally.
  21. 39-42 and a half a game back. It's been a pretty quiet ride.
  22. Well, that's certainly something that happened.
  23. Why can't they be encouraged/instructed to use phones at home then? Seems like an easy fix.
  24. It's simply Republicans punishing people for lockdowns and COVID vaccines. That'll show those lazy, woke libards! All they know is vindictiveness.
