Well, that's how the railroads were made originally. Can't beat the classics.

Rust Belt Revival Ideas, Predictions & Articles
Frankly, we need Asians, Indians and Arabs to move to the Rust Belt en masse. I'm talking multiple millions. Relieve all immigration complications in exchange for some considerations. Most problems would be solved within a generation.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Oh red line, you broke my heart yesterday. The train plus the shuttle from Little Italy to Hopkins took almost 90 minutes yesterday in part due to the shuttle at Puritas to the airport. Track repair happens, but evidently I didn't dig deeply into the mobile site to see the news. RTA or the city needs at least one representative at the Puritas and other in-between stations telling people where to go for a shuttle, or that there even is a shuttle. The driver just stopped at Puritas, mumbled something unintelligibly, and we all got out. She should have been warning us constantly on the intercom we would not go past Puritas, and buses were waiting outside. Adequate communication is the bare minimum, and they failed. Merely physically leaving the train and finding the street at the Puritas station was like nagivating an Escher painting. If you've been on that stop, you know what I mean. And while shi-t happens, the loud gutterpunk methhead couple screaming at each other at the shuttle stop was aggravating, and the aggravation was getting contagious. I'm not blaming RTA for those loons, but it was unwelcome with passengers already stressed. At least there was a bus waiting for us, though it did wait 10 or 15 minutes to open its doors and leave shortly after (the website says they leave every 30 minutes, so it could have been worse). I guess the driver didn't want to hear those freaks either. To cap off a perfect trip, the driver accidentally drove to one of the Hopkins garages and somewhat got stuck in a weird angle. He and another passenger were discussing how to u-turn the vehicle, since it was quite confusing how one would navigate the bus from the lot's entrance. We've all been there, parking a car in a bad angle and unable to conceptualize how to straighten it without bumping something on the side or behind. After a few minutes of watching this helplessness, a passenger and I asked the driver to open the door, which thankfully he did, and we walked the rest of the way, which wasn't too bad, while the driver awaited a second driver to arrive and help him back out. Fun trip. Maybe it's time to start taking an Uber instead and eat the $30 or $40, whaver it is. There was a time when hotels would shuttle people directly - I've got to look into that option too. Also, the website really needs alerts on the front page: one shouldn't have to dig through multiple pages to find them. Big blaring letters on the front page is easy and helpful. And a heads up: Shuttles from Tower City to 55th start today for all three lines and go until July 8th. Whoopie.

Reddit
Wow, the mobile site is pretty rough too. I've been using Reddit is Fun for years with no issue. And now that it's going away, I've really been trying with the new app the last few days. But this official app is virtually unusable. Nothing wrong with incorporating ads, which I believe the third party apps bypassed, but it's just so ugly and hard to enjoy. All the outcry is justified.

US Economy: News & Discussion
I was all hyped and bullish like you wouldn't believe on Monday with the annoucement of the Vision Pro. During the presentation I was having holy s-hit moments throughout: This is the Internet 2.0 we've been awaiting. Entirely new industries with proper VR and AR implementations and development. Legitimate use for the Metaverse, let's call it the Cookverse going forward. Endless corporate and consumer possibilities. The beginning of the end of physical computers, theaters, tvs, and even cell phones. Global changing. Iphone 2007 all over again. The sun rises and won't set. The Indians win 163 games out of 162. Life becomes real Star Trek, not the Paramount nightmares! Great Lakes starts selling Christmas Ale in October and abandons their crappy IPA! I've dialed it back to reality since, but damn was that an exciting day, and it will have enormous global impacts -- just on a slower timetable than I was imagining at the time.

Office romances have obvious drawbacks, but office friendships can be beneficial, especially for those who are younger and/or new to a city, in particular for introverts or those with few friends and hobbies. You just gotta get out there to meet people, and a happy hour after work sure beats going home and playing it safe swiping on your phone.

It's like the ghost of Browns Christmas future, with the photos, dignitaries, speeches, fanfare, and other participants in the scam. Only thing missing is a statue of a serial woman beater and photo of a serial sex abuser.

10 million job openings (of varying quality and legitimacy), 300,000+ private sector jobs, significant rebound in the markets, consumer spending up, Russia/Ukraine conflict quieting (relatively), Midde Eastern conflicts quieting (relatively), debt ceiling negotiations finalized... Isn't now the right - well, let's call it least worst - time to raise interest rates?
-
US Economy: News & Discussion
The job and financial markets seemingly can support another increase in interest rates. Let's bump it another .5 points, since 4.7% inflation and god knows what COLA is still rough. Apple can hit $3 trillion next year instead of next week.

I don't know if that's true or not, or how transferable the skills are to peer industries, but gaming is enormous and growing. Video games design and development, game art, animation, etc, are certainly legit majors and programs. Or are you saying playing video games is in itself a major in colleges? Not saying you're wrong, but I'm not seeing any evidence of that after a 10 minute google search.

One death is a tragedy, a million a statistic. Quotes rock. Doesn't change the reality that we're allowing vulnerable, barely adult people to be preyed upon while the great geniuses can discharge debt. It's immoral and unhelpful to a healthy economic ecosystem.

Working where though? Ohio's minimum wage of $10.10 and federal minimum of $7.25 isn't going to help anyone trying to save for school or figure out their life.

One thing is for sure: student loans being nondischargable is utter bulls**t. It's okay to ruin impressionable 18-year-olds with 6-figure debt and compounded interest, but Trump can file four business bankruptces and still be worth 100s of millions? Something is terribly broken with the system. Me thinks it begins with an R and ends in traitors.

I don't know about all that, but the commercial real estate bomb is scary as hell. There really isn't an answer for filling millions of office and retail propeties across the country, especially in downtowns, unless RTO becomes mandatory and retail spending habits reverse. I'm talking to my broker next week about shorting some REITs since we will be seeing more and more emptying buildings - let's just call them vertical dead malls - as existing leases continue to expire.
