  1. Damn, what is going on with recent ex-Indians pitchers? Something in the water here? If Kluber is next, I'm going to be heartbroken. Guess we ended up dodging at least two bullets now.
  2. The Severance WalMart was no picnic either. Neither was the IHOP at certain hours. The Baker Square there never had any incidents. People just don't get angry at bakeries. Cigar shops too.

Well, Under the Banner of Heaven does not exactly promote Mormonism/the LDS movement. Christ, are we sure they're not just a well-dressed cult? And that's just the "moderates"; in middle of the series we start to meet the extremists, whom the moderates seem to somewhat condone. What an odd show.
  4. If I may, Who the f would go to a paint museum? Or is this an ongoing joke that I completely whiffed on?
  5. Yeah, I don't think these are the kinds of shops most posters on urbanohio.com visit. But at least someone is taking a chance in Tower City/Avenue since conventional retailers have long abandoned ship. I honestly think there is no true master plan, and Bedrock is as befuddled as the Ratners were resentful. Sure the collapsing economy isnt helping, but the mall was dogs**t even when economic conditions were stronger. We've seen plenty of plans for Blockchain Tech Hub, Vision for the Valley, partnership with Chain Reaction, etc, and it's 2023 and the mall is still dogs**t. It's so hard being bearish.
  6. Well, that's a downer. Can't wait to see the new parking lot in 3 months.
  7. I have no idea if there's any tangible value to these kind of symposiums, but I'll give Bibb the benefit of the doubt. He's an ambassador to the city and needs to be visible in DC and with leaders of high caliber cities/regions.
  8. And Rock Bottom closed in Chicago last week. And Ebisu Sushi closed last year in San Diego. And Greenpoint closed recently in Brooklyn. And APL closed in LA last year. s**t happens. Restaurants have turnover. Downtowns survive.

I absolutely loved Fargo seasons 1-3. Four was strange though. It wasn't boring by any means, and I'm glad I watched it (just finished last night), but they seemed to pack in far too many storylines. SPOILERS Killing Rabbi in the middle of the series was odd since he was arguably the hero. I guess they were subverting expectations or whatever the cliche - but I wanted a showdown with him and Rushmore. And I'm not understanding why they half-assed the supernatural stuff. SPOILERS from the spaceship in season 2, to the Twin Peaks stuff in 3, to the ghost in 4, I just don't think those elements helped the show. Not Olyphant's best work either. Usually he kills it, but not in Fargo. And Rock's youngest son was just dreadful.
  10. $15 for a ticket seems very reasonable, especially for a competitive team. Double especially with dynamic pricing scams. These days concessions are for higher income or poor budget types.
  11. "“As we surveyed our fans, we continuously heard feedback that aligned with the success we saw with the Corner Bar – a focus on more social spaces and compelling fan experiences in the ballpark offering unique ways to enjoy a game." I'm pretty sure most fans just want to watch the game in relative peace, especially when with families. Compelling fan experiences? Get the f out of here. Now for a Ballpark Village like in St. Louis, much more applicable.

I thought the team owners keep the revenue from what I mentioned above. Also, I believe the league pays for the playoffs, not team owners except for bonuses/incentives.

My guess: Winning teams build up goodwill that translate to higher tickets and concession prices, sponsor packages, merch sales, and eventually that unicorn shiny city/county subsidized billion-dollar stadium.
  14. "But in 2017, in response to homeland security concerns that surfaced after the renovation of the square, the city installed the concrete barriers along Superior Avenue..." Now raise your hand if you believe THAT bulls**t? Send Frank the bill for 5 years of this nonsense.
  15. It's pretty complicated. There are far too many locals in the city who faux feel like immigrants threaten to displace them in some way and instead clamor for leadership to, as Frank Jackson said, "take care of their own" first. So it isn't like the city and its "leaders" are making good faith efforts for true population growth. In addition I can't imagine there are that many Ukranians left in neighborhoods like Slavic Village or Tremont, so that global community from earlier generations just doesn't exist. As for the suburbs, the east side ex-Soviets are by and large full-on MAGA. It sucks, it's sad, it's very ironic, but like Frank said, it is what it is. So you're not seeing a lot of welcoming arms from our Russian and Belarussian neigbors in Mayfield Heights, Orange, some of the other Heights.
  16. Gotta admit that is one good looking building.

So here we have Baker, now 2-1 on the Rams, having a solid end to his and their bad season. Then we see him step in front of the reporter to make sure those idiots didn't hurt her while they were arguing/fighting. The polar opposite of the unrepentant criminal the Browns hired. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/nfl-suspends-broncos-randy-gregory-rams-oday-aboushi-after-postgame-fight-following-blowout-rams-win-210015098.html

I don't mind the contract being guaranteed as a matter of principle - frankly, all NFL contracts should be guaranteed since players have a lifetime of pain and medical expenses unique to other sports (except boxers). Never understood the non-guaranteed arguments at their core. Baseball and hockey solely have guaranteed contracts; football and basketball do not. Hmmm, I wonder why.

What a fun day for the fans who attended.

As of March 2022, only 6 owners were not billionaires, with the poorest worth half a billion. Bear market aside, it seems most if not all teams can afford higher payrolls, even if they don't quite achieve Dodgers or Mets levels. I know owners use the arbitrary "different size markets" as an excuse, but at the end of the day, a lot would rather moneyball a season. For example the Dolans are worth $5 bill but couldn't afford Lindor? Or evidently any of the Cy Young award winners we keep trading or not re-signing for 15 years. Sure...

Including luxury tax, Mets payroll is about half a billion next year. Something has got to change with the MLB. This is ridiculous.
  23. Must Not Be Cynical Must Be Positive ... boy it's challenging with this albatross. I mean project.
  24. Maybe. Personally I'd use the bus/train more often, visit different neighborhoods and suburbs, and ultimately spend my money in different businesses if local and commuter public transit were free. I certainly did when I paid for a monthly pre-tax pass pre-covid, but with hybrid work, it doesn't seem worthwhile. Bet others would too. The more people, the safer they become, so more people hop on, the systems grow even safer, and so forth. Frequency is an issue, probably second to security/security perceptions, and non-city folk would howl at resource reallocation or car-related fees. Maybe I'd distract them with the Hunter files, while I use heavy political capital to pass adequate public transport bills. If Johnson can pass the Civil Rights Act, anything is possible.
  25. Highways and freeways don't have tolls frequently; neither should public transportation. They're all public goods.
