US Economy: News & Discussion
Interest rates returning to December 2007 levels. November CPI was "only" 7.1% so perhaps the Fed is making the right moves.

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/12/14/binance-ceo-cz-deposits-coming-back-in-but-bumpy-road-ahead.html Binance CEO says deposits are ‘coming back in’ but sees ‘bumpy’ road ahead for the crypto firm I trust Zhao as much as I do Bankman-Fried. Which is about as much as Musk and even Trump. Does this industry have ANY regulation?

NFL: General News & Discussion
Nostalgiac for the days when the Browns didn't have a serial sex offender starting quarterback, and the owners/players/fans didn't have to invent excuses to themselves and their families. Some fathers those people are... I do hope Baker has a successful career. Clearly Carolina did not go well, but Thursday was a good start. And I do hope our starting line eventually finds their moral compass with every play that involves Cleveland's current Weinstein/Cosby. The sooner I hear about a preventable compound fracture, the sooner I may start supporting the team.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Hey, I'm still awaiting the Ferrari dealership in Public Square. That aside, I can't believe anyone with a straight face believes we need bollards. They remind me of sound barriers surrounding freeways nationwide: cosmetically hideous, terribly constructed, overly priced, completely unnecessary. Bollards are bollocks.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Bibb should remove them tomorrow and send Frank the bill for 7 years of this nonsense. These barriers are more useless than TSA - at least that security theater is rooted in an actual terrorist incident. Frank just ordered these stupid things out of spite. $3.4 million. Are you f*cking me?? Al Qaeda is not blowing up Terminal Tower, Justin. It never was.

US Economy: News & Discussion
If a company is too big to fail or needs to be bailed out in some capacity, then it should be partially or fully nationalized. Biden should have done so for the railroads rather than making a strike illegal, just as Trump with companies accepting PPP loans, just as Obama with Big Auto, just as W with the banks. You want our money, we own your company. End of story! All four men blew it even if three had the best of intentions. God forbid America acts like an actual developed country once in a while.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower at Erieview & Galleria Renovation
Hey, I'm all about being cynical and sarcastic. But there is reason for optimism, as there's actual momentum to an existing and interested tenant as opposed to the Haslem/Stark/Gilbert pie-in-the-sky abstract plans. I seriously doubt the developer just made up the W's interest. Combine that with the desperate need to re-purpose the Galleria - with Winking Lizard moving, all that's left is the YMCA and Hungarian museum - and it's cause for some cheer.

Cleveland is getting a W? Fan-f'ing-tastic!

2.5'ish years for a Wawa? Are they trying to unlock the secrets of the universe before?

Cleveland: Retail News
Beachwood Place has shifted to alternative brands in multiple spaces, and it didn't seem there were many vacancies over the holidays. Maybe Tower City's piecemeal approach wasn't the right one - lesson learned - and the Avenue should be shuttered until a legitimate master plan is devised. Jesus, it's like the lakefront discussions. Burke. RTA. Flats. Warehouse Disrict. City Population. We have had the same exact conversations since this website's inception. The 90s really were a tipping point in many ways, and the Ratners gave us a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I think that failure has had very longterm effects, especially with retailer investment.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Step one: public financing. Might as well have turned off PowerPoint then.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Well, it looks nice. Pretty graphics. Very idyllic. But I'm not sure it's worth digesting. Not to be cynical, but we have seen so many of these presentations and have gotten burned most times. Pages of discussions and optimism for months, years even, generally followed by nothing. Maybe cities/developers should hold off on such presentations until they land financing, committed tenants, land rights, and a realistic timetable.

On book 2 of the Poppy Wars trilogy. It's a good hot tub read.

That doesn't sound like a Microsoft or Apple starting a Midwest hub in Tower City. Balloons. Bully.

This time minus the blockchain hub graphics.

Well, he's had 7 months to come with something. ANYTHING.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
As much as people are Cleveland boosters on this site, I don't think anyone really thought this project was going to be a success, at least from a development perspective. The forgotten triangle has a new road connecting 490 to University Circle. Whoopie. Don't think the coffee shop, microbrewery, and women walking dogs at night population is heading there anytime soon.

Oh, I must learn more about soccer being a sport for the bourgeoisie.

2022 FIFA World Cup
Reminds me of Uday Hussein forcing Iraqi players to kick a cement ball when they lost, and that was the least of their punishments. Really, Iran should be banished from the World Cup.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
My magic ball says: First Energy Stadium: no plans until the Browns leave in 10ish years after the city/county refuses to be blackmailed by Jimmy and Dee for a fully subsidized "competitive" stadium. These no plans are followed by more no plans unless you count the stadium rotting away with city leaders being "eager at the opportunity" for development. Burke: no plans until the end of time. Perhaps even beyond that.

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/23/heres-the-apology-letter-sam-bankman-fried-sent-to-ftx-employees.html Here’s the apology letter Sam Bankman-Fried sent to FTX employees: ‘When sh---y things happen to us, we all tend to make irrational decisions’ I get these things take time, but why aren't this freak and his cohorts in chains already? We have extradition with Bahamas, though they're compromised and may not play ball. Fine, let's embargo those c-nts until we make it back with interest. And when he eventually relocates to Buenos Aires, then our government should send over some mercenaries, throw a hood over his and the collaborators' heads Munich style, kidnap the Madoff-wannabees, toss them into the boiler room of a ship, and waterboard them until they're back in the US. Would be a good episode 10 to the eventual Netflix series.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Decades and decades of plans, all of which must be collecting mountains of dust by now. Why is this any different? It's so hard not being cynical.

Bit bullish on Humboldt Park and Little Village there.

9th Circuit had a few decisions basically immunizing celebrity spokesmen. I would love for that to be challenged and all those scumbags - Tom, Giselle, Curry, David - be prosecuted. f*ck them. Meanwhile Bankman-Fried is probably heading to Argentina with some of his goofs. It would be great if some crypto-fraud bounty hunters grabbed them at the beach somewhere, Muniched the criminals back to the States.
