Cleveland Browns Discussion
No injunction against this freak from playing game one? Ridiculous.

I don't know if there are other wrestling fans on urbanohio, but my god Bill Bhatti is full of sh*t. A "wrestling journalist" who is clearly a compulsive liar. A carny's carny. I'm listening to this fool on Konnan/Disco Inferno's podcast, and it's clearly lie after exaggeration after half-truth after lie. Repeat and rinse.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
UGHHHHHH It always feels like from game one, the Twins are just a little ahead. And when did the White Sox become a 500+ team?

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I read that on fan nation, but have to imagine the general reaction to the predator wouldn't be that different if he started against Tampa the week prior.

US Economy: News & Discussion
Job numbers good = market falls/flat because investors worry the Fed is confident we can absorb even higher rates. Job numbers good = market goes up because there is more economic confidence and spending ability. No rhyme or reason to it. Good news is bad news, and vice versa.

First place in a few hours? Let's go Tigers.

Sigh... it's not even worth getting mad about or discussing further. As we've seen over and over, sometime the bad guys win.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Criminals and derelicts unnerving and at times terrorizing public transportation passengers is really a national issue. If the MTAs and CTAs can't/won't handle or acknowledge these issues, even with their enormous budgets, I don't see RTA having much hope.

Cleveland: Mayor Justin Bibb
To be "Frank," we don't hear much about Bibb these days. Not a lot in the news.

That game was wild. And against Boston no less - I swear we've won like 9.2 percent of games against them the last 15 years.

The Future of America and Its Cities
Of all the arbitrary lists, this one seems a bit out there. How redfin is qualifying "thinking of leaving" does not seem particularly scientific or convincing. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/07/24/redfin-homebuyers-want-to-leave-san-francisco-los-angeles-new-york.html "Marr noted that a lack of affordability is a tougher sell for cities than ever before, with the rise of remote work across large swaths of the country." First things first - full remote is not common, even among big tech or finance. I wish it were, but that isn't the case. Second, Sacramento, Tampa, Miami and of all places SAN DIEGO are among the inflow. Since when did they get affordable? The fact is housing is brutal in all cities ranging from the New Yorks and LAs to the St. Louises and Baltimores. Save for Detroit, those top ten cities where people are allegedly looking to leave will be fine, as they have diverse economies, well-regarded global reputations, strong universities, massive tourism levels, middle and higher end income residents, etc. There are large challenges, in particular with crime for some and cost of living for all, no doubt. But you could make the same argument for the Miamis and Dallases of the country too.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Clearly we need another 18-month study to determine whether or not the lakefront should be utilized or remain a giant inaccessible concrete park.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Very doubtful. Look at all the work and expense that was done in Public Square, and it's clearly not any more an attraction than it was prior to the renovation. Not really. Of course that all depends if Bedrock remembers this area exists and puts on quality shows and programming consistently.

Maybe a nice bar with couches there and above would have made more sense.

What are you watching?
Boys season 3 was so good. While Homelander is a hell of a character and the actor tremendous, I still enjoyed Soldier Boy the most. Indeed, what if Captain America were a c-unt (let's see if anyone here gets that reference). And the Black Noir storyline was far more interesting than his comic book counterpart. The weakest part was probably the AOC character storyline felt very muted and forgotten, insignificant.

The UK version of Ghosts is charming. Light. Fun. Easy to marathon.

Gas Prices
For many, the alleged "positive workplace culture" > paying more at the pump daily for unnecessary commutes. I guess people can look for side hustles to help make up the difference. Sleep, hobbies and spending time with family/friends are overrated.

Well... it looks a little better in video than photos.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
You're not kidding. Going downtown, especially to Tower City during holidays, was so exciting as as kid. Absolutely magic. There was nothing like it, and you could spend a full day there without being bored. My family and I certainly would on December 31st year after year. I don't think the Ratners ever forgave Cleveland for its failure. Seems like Boston, New Jersey, New York, and Denver got the lionshare of all future projects thereafter.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
The great days of Tower City (or the Avenue, I could never keep the two straight) are long gone. Bedrock is under the illusion (delusion?) that this kind of set-up can lead to a variety of events and promotions. Hell, maybe they're right and there's some sort of master plan that this little park pays a part. My cynical guess - they don't have sh*t and are looking to see what sticks. To be fair that fountain was pretty the sad the last few years; I don't even recall the water being on when I'd walk by. Kind of a concrete circular park with metal exposed and only memories that remain. Damn I miss 90s Cleveland for all kinds of reasons. Everything has just sucked the last 20 years, with a few successful blips here and there, and Tower City is one of those casualties.

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
Larchmere could use better connectivity to Shaker Square. There's something about taking a left on Moreland that makes nervous. Almost as odd as the Coventry/Fairmount convergence from hell. I get nervous just thinking about that damn intersection. As for Shaker Square itself, is it doing that poorly? I do miss Fire and Balaton (and Joseph Books, for that matter), but I was under the impression occupancy was pretty high and the Saturday farmers markets have good crowds. I guess a few buildings on S. Moreland are distressed, but let's not kid ourselves, that's fairly common on the east side and seems like a separate issue.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Security outside the casino would be helpful as well, at least at night. I've killed time there waiting for the late night Greyhounds, Amtraks and once-upon-a-time Megabuses, and it was not particularly pleasant. One or two people strolling in a uniform make all the difference.

Look for the silver lining, at least they're not calling it "transformative". God knows how many times that f'ing word is used.

Housing Market & Trends
There's a lot of interesting analysis here, none of which I disagree, but I think most people, regardless of income level, are not looking for a SFH as an investor. They just need somewhere stable to live and, god willing, make most of it back (if not more) at some point. It's not an investment as is investing in equities, though no one is stopping homeowners from becoming educated in the field. People need to live somewhere at the end of the day, and they, with a million exceptions, should be able to recapture a lot of the upkeep costs. That's why it should be encouraged. Why it's always a little disappointing when new construction turns out to be rentals, not condos. Why these out-of-state Blackrocks or foreign investors are incredibly damaging to society with their enormous portfolios and unethical rental increases/lack of maintenance. Homeownership is a healthy balance to those practices, especially to those with limited funds and are the most vulnerable.
