urban and suburban Ohio isn't exactly la la land either.
  2. Woof. People make some good money. I must be doing something wrong. And someone should tell Joey a home like that would cost $4-$6 million in New York, $2-$3 million in Boston.
  3. Cosgrove has done a lot of great things for the region and saved an uncountable number of lives in Vietnam, Mass, Cleveland Clinic, and cardiothoracics. Never mind his involvement in the Cleveland Clinic's global expansion. It's a pretty benign, rah rah article. Let him say his piece.
  4. Disagree. Trains are not shelters, and neither civilian passengers nor RTA crews are caretakers. We should not be forced to stand among bedbugs, piss, s-hit, ejaculate, and deranged behavior just because society failed some people or they failed themselves. No one should be sleeping on seats either. RTA is not a hotel and those who violate its rules need to be expelled.
  5. A bit off topic, but one thing that is annoying and an easy fix is hopping on the middle train at Tower City heading east. It's always unclear if you're on the blue or green line, as I've had a few situations where the outside color changes once I'm inside, and all of a sudden I'm heading to Van Aken instead of Green unknowingly. How hard is it for the conductor to announce CLEARLY which train you're actually on and the destination.
  6. I disagree. For instance the Chicago metra requires passengers showing their passes. I've taken it many times and have never seen a conflict. It's just about enforcement.
  7. Quite a few cities have been experimenting with free transit. I just don't see what the harm would be if RTA does. Perhaps 9 months is extreme. How about 6? 3?
  8. But the homeless, mentally ill and criminals aren't paying the fare already. I don't know if it being totally free would turn the trains into an electric homeless shelter, so that's why a pilot program would be interesting. Kansas City buses and street cars have been free since 2020 - I'm curious what they've found. Plus Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Boston and other cities (maybe Akron?) have some free public transport days. Hell, Luxembourg is 100% free. Yeah yeah, I know, apples and oranges, more like apples and pumpkins.

The Pitt is pretty good. And now I'm marathoning ER. Season 1 and 2 were tremendous. On 3 now, though I don't know how far I'll get when the original cast leaves.
  10. Passenger fares only account for 10-15% of RTA's operating budget. It's such a small amount I say eliminate fare collection and look for extra moneys from the business community or other sources. Hey Jones Day, do you want attorneys and paras to come in more often? Well, now they can't complain about travel costs. Call it a 9-month experiment and see if use goes up and behaviors improve, or things get worse. It's not like homeless, mentally ill, and thugs will start using it MORE if it's free since many avoid payment already, but I could see a growing number of normal people using it, and we'll get a better balance of normals/degenerates. And hire security for the red line for f's sake. I shouldn't have to smell like a tobacco or crack chimney when I get off.
  11. Automatic passenger counters, surveys, fare collection data, and manual counts. At least according to Gemini.
  12. In ten degrees with a windchill near 0, no less. At least someone's using it.
  13. You make good points.
  14. We asked the mayor, “If the Browns leave, does the City get a big payout of many hundreds of millions?” I believe zero through f-k off dollars was the correct response.
  15. MPACT is or was seeking a public/private partnership. https://heightsobserver.org/read/2025/01/31/development-partner-outlines-process-for-revitalizing-severance#:~:text=MPact aims to redevelop the,Namdar Realty Group%2C Severance's owner. Well... better late than never.

    Evil is, evil does.
  18. Might be time to let this one go back to nature. Failed indoor mall, failed outdoor mall, limited community resources, oversaturation of existing suburban retail, changing spending patterns, slumlord owner, decades of crime (mall riots, WalMart riots, movie theater riots, etc) not forgotten, labor and supply cost escalations, debatable commercial tenant and resident demand, and so on. New housing, if that ever happens, can go elsewhere. Let it go Cleveland Heights. All the feel good surveys and "crowdsourcing" won't revive the blight. There are other neighborhoods that need attention.
  19. $422 million bond contributions from Brookpark? Orcutt better be auditing finance classes when taking a breather from Amber's Cabaret and Crazy Horse. For a city with 18,000 people, if Brookpark can pay $422 million, they can pay the $1.2 billion plus overruns plus 30 years of maintenance plus highway improvements -- and be done with it.
  20. La dee da, la dee dum, reddit says NFL is potentially offering Browns a draft in exchange for the domed stadium. F that.
  21. " It’s working at the public financing, and that will happen over the next four and a half months." Damnit, Jimmy's nose just poked through my computer screen and knocked over my coffee. He's expecting to resolve this by July? Laughable. It isn't happening, criminal.

And conservatives thought desegregating sports was immoral because they perceived black people as having unfair genetic advantages from the good ol' hard labor days. Stomach cancer is too good for those manaics.
  23. Imagine some Haslam sycophant actually getting excited over the sterile AI art. Give me a minute on Gemini and I'll vomit something comparable.
  24. 46 of 52 Superbowls have been in warm climate regions; I would argue weather is very much a deciding factor. I can't speak on the NBA All Star game dynamics, just that the Superbowl is in a league of its own, and weeklong outdoor events/ attractions are a major part of the festivities. Taking city booster pride out, would you rather go to a February Superbowl in Cleveland or Vegas/Miami/LA/etc
  25. After the Jacksonville debacle, the NFL was pretty adamant they'd never go through that nightmare again. The lack of hotel rooms is a deal-breaker in all cities. Full stop. That aside, Detroit had two Superbowls, Minnesota two, Indianapolis one, New Jersey one. The remaning 46 Superbowls have been in warm cities. Does anyone expect Brookpark to be number 7 for cold? Superbowl weekend starts on Monday and goes into hyperdrive Thursdays, which include indoor and outdoor venues. Miami was in the 70s last Thursday, NOLA 70s, Tampa upper 60s-70s, LA and San Diego upper 50s, Cleveland was in the upper 20s. Outdoor glitz is part of Superbowl week, and that's just not an option in Brookpark/Cleveland. Or any cold city 88% of the time. Who knows what will end up happening with this Brookpark stadium (fiction), but logically it is highly unlikely it'll host a Superbowl in our lifetimes.
