Down 12 percent. WHAT A YEAR SO FAR. Tech (my poor Netflix) plus Noah's ARK fund = I've been doing a lot of mediation the last month.

Cleveland: Retail News
I get the frustration about Cleveland's anemic retail, but just a few thoughts. First, downtown Detroit may be getting a Gucci boutique this summer, but there currently isn't a Gucci in all of Michigan outside of Sommerset Mall in Troy. Second, and let me phrase this delicately, Gucci of 2022 isn't Gucci of 1982, and the clientele has... changed dramatically. Sure something is generally better than nothing, but that particular brand's reputation has completely 180'd.

I miss the 6 and 9/9x. They seemed to do the job quite well. The 32x too.

Nutshell: Autistic, non-binary,and/or transgender rapist creates a subreddit called r/antiwork some years ago. The subreddit's tone changes and popularity skyrockets in the last 6 months as a reflection of the Great Resignation, which don't quite align with the aforementioned creator's goals for the forum. Scumbag Jessie Waters of Fox News interviews subreddit creator/head moderator in order to subtly mock and deligitimize the subreddit, which is mostly comprised of liberals, semi-socialsts, and others who acknowledge a broken labor system. In other words, the libtard enemy. Despite subscribers earlier polling against an interview, moderators ignore concensus and acquiesce to head moderator/creator to accept the Fox News invite. The interview is a trainwreck on every conceivable level, much to the glee of traitors and conservatives alike. The antiwork creator, who is also the unfireable head moderator due to reddit's archaic rules, comes across ABYSMALLY, and makes all r/antiwork subscribers look lazy, immature, idiotic, etc. Subsequent damage control goes badly on the r/antiwork subreddit, with the creator/head moderator playing transphobia and other false cards in response to legit criticism. Within hours, the moderators shut the popular forum down. And then TBideon enjoys multiple cocktails. Happy Wednesday folks! Onto episode 5 of Archive 81!!!!

r/workreform about to see a significant increase in membership. Probably r/MayDayStrike too.

So long r/antiwork. You will be missed. Amazing how all it takes is one power-hungry dumbass, and a remarkable subreddit dies.

Remote Work
https://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/2021/11/23/office-friendship/ The Death of the Office Friendship I'm a fanatic when it comes to working remotely, and really believe it brings about a far better lifestyle. But the article makes some fair points. People often make friends (real friends, drinking buddies, work friends, etc) at work, especially when new to a city. For these transplants in particular, it takes real effort to join an intermural sport, go to a paint/alcohol event, or figure out a hobby to meet people. However, making friends with work colleagues, especially in your 20s and 30s, is a much more natural process. And you make friends through friends, thereby expanding your community and sense of belonging. It's a lot easier going to a happy hour together at 5 rather than leaving your apartment and heading to a pub by yourself. Beyond that, work is a natural way of meeting romantic partners, perhaps at the office, perhaps at an event with your colleagues in which you mingle with peers from other companies. Meeting someone to date, if not marry, gets harder as you get older, and for a lot of people, I can see working remotely really having a damaging effect. I'm not saying you should sh*t where you eat, but it is a resource of which you might meet someone. Certainly healthier than swiping left. Food for thought. I'm still a fan of fulltime remote, especially for those with families, but can appreciate these consequences.

The final season of Expanse is baaaaaaaad.

What are you watching?
Season 5 of Search Party has been surreal crap so far. Unless things get dramatically better (mid-episode 3), they should have ended at season 4. Peacemaker was fun. Righteous Gemstones coming up tonight. Edit: All done with Search Party. What a truly horrible, abomination that absurdist sh*t of a final season. On every level it was terrible and disappointing, and the producers/creators/actors/writers should be ashamed.

Cleveland: Mayor Justin Bibb
The scandals are SWEEPING the nation. What will be in store for that poor city. Mayor Rivera sworn in twice, at 12:01 a.m., then publicly at 3 p.m. (providencejournal.com) https://www.providencejournal.com/story/news/politics/2021/01/04/central-falls-ri-first-latina-mayor-maria-rivera-sworn-in/4129660001/

Cleveland: Mayor Justin Bibb
"So he held a fake ceremony on January 8. Now, while some may consider that fraud, the harm caused was not personal loss of individuals, but it was damaging to the image of the city that the mayor needs two ceremonies for his ego. He could have had this celebration event today--no problem. But to re-enact like a civil-war battle his inauguration and pretend its real and legal is inappropriate at the minimum, maybe illegal at worst". Oh how will Cleveland ever survive this invented scandal.

I'm watching Tiger King on Netflix. My takeaway: America should have stayed a British colony.

The Wheel of Time pilot isn't doing it for me at all: "She'd piss in your mouth and tell you it was raining". Yeah, let's use that line. And the new Expanse episode doesn't come for three full days. These are dark times indeed.

Aliens? The truth is out there!
I'd say it would be worse today because of the proliferation of firearms and explosives among the God and Guns nutters. "And God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. They shall rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the cattle, the whole earth, and all the creeping things that creep on earth.” ET visiting would directly contradict Genesis, and there would be mass conflict: suicide bombings, militia mobilizations, martyrdom, panic, markets crashing, fear, anger, suspicion and paranoia of neighbors and governments, etc, would be the desperate response from the nutters. The response to the War of the Worlds radio show was the closest thing we've seen to how we'd respond to supposedly legit alien contact (well, invasion), and the population didn't exactly act well. Imagine that on a global scale. Plus there would be legit concerns from the more rational types, in particular with unknown infections (either receiving or giving), so unless the ETs convincingly addressed that, we might have an inadvertent (or intentional, who knows) smallpox'ish blanket situation. There is probably intelligent sentient life out there, drake equation notwithstanding. Hell, I can imagine there is sentient life on Earth that co-exist in different dimensions that our brains can't comprehend. But as for ETs from the stars, why would they even want to visit our planet, unless there was a need for water and perhaps to understand the evolution of biologies.

Mayor Wu is going to be a tremendous mayor and will make for a true national leader someday. Boston got very lucky with this future president. edit: yep, I'm a big Elizabeth Warren mark.
