  1. Calling the US an advanced nation is getting to be more and more a stretch these days.

Yah, I found a cheap one that's done the job. No glass percolating in my stomach lining, though I am more careful with cleaning and handling it.
  3. The irrationality of leadership of so many companies, including my own, mirrors that of non- and anti-vaxxers. This rush, rush, rush back to the office is maddening. We have to wear masks and are not permitted in-person meetings. So then wtf is the point of being there, since it's physically uncomfortable, thus far there is no proof of vax cards or negative tests (only the honor system folks!), and there is no "team building, yay we're a family" activity and collaboration. We had a 3.5 hour virtual holiday party on Friday. I died on the inside many times. And that was after 20 minutes. Absolutely shameful.

I swear to god watching The Expanse is like time travel. Just burned through the first two episodes of the new season, and I don't think I even blinked once.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10310701/Morgan-Stanley-boss-says-WRONG-order-staff-office.html "Morgan Stanley boss says he was WRONG to order staff back to the office or face pay cuts over the summer and warns Omicron means work from home rules could continue until 2023" Personally I think he and his ilk are just ticked off there's less opportunity to bully and sexually harass the interns and younger staff.

Last Night in Soho is an exceptionally unpleasant movie and movie experience. I highly recommend passing. After two episodes of Arcane, I.... think I like it. The animation and voice work is fantastic, and it's a unique world. I also finished the live action Cowboy Bebop. Boy did they swing and miss with Vicious; not a fan. He and Julie get wayyyyyyyyyy too much screen time as well. However, I did love the polarizing Ed cameo at the end. Talk about a faithful adaptation with that performance. F is for Family season 5 was fantastic too; I'll miss the series.
  8. Grey days are harsh. Depressing. Unhealthy. And clearly weather is a factor for a lot of people of varying ages. I wouldn't undersell it.

At least get rid of that ghost runner nonsense for god's sake.

No sexual predators on the team for god's sake.

"Mashups that shouldn't work but do" on YouTube has some clever music combos. Plus one can never go wrong with Kavinsky and Wolf Alice.
  12. Damn that's a downer. You're right of course, but jeez, I'm going to need to watch something fun on youtube now.
  13. It's a miracle Marika stayed in the Buckeye, then Shaker, area as long as she did. After being pistol whipped and shot, she must have gone through a lot of trauma. Nevermind the fact the store had suffered multiple armed robberies within a few years. Can't blame them for wanting to go somewhere a bit calmer.

Oregon middle school closes over safety concerns, student 'socialization' issues from year of virtual learning https://www.yahoo.com/news/oregon-middle-school-closes-over-190709037.html A lot of kids have gone feral this year.
  15. Wouldn't that be balanced by less trash from commercial properties though? Also, a ten percent growth in the next five years for a large city would be pretty damn impressive.
  16. Interesting. So when cities talk about their local populations, do they include people in jails, prisons, detention facilities? I'd always assumed they do i.e. Cleveland's downtown population includes those jailed at the Justice Center and Fairfax counts those jailed at the Juvenile Detention Center. If so, then the census metrics seem to oppose local ones.
  17. I'm not arguing it's historic by preservationists' standards, just that it was, to me, still a beautiful building that lasted decades, and it's a shame to see it going for more parking lot. This sh*t doesn't happen in Western Europe
  18. At least they're not calling it the Opportunity District. God knows the city has a fetish for that word.
  19. I remember belonging to the Afternoons with the Arts program in the late 90s, and we saw multiple performances there. One of the shows was 12 Angry Men, which featured the curmudgeon who voiced Piglet on the Winnie the Poo cartoons. Bit of a random memory there. Although it's been over twenty year since being inside, I'm sad to see yet another historic building disappear in exchange for pavement. Yet another fun Cleveland memory and attraction that future generations won't ever experience.

I've seen David Lynch films that make more sense than the Berzerk sequel from 2016. How does this exist in the same universe as the 1997 version?? And the cgi monsters are repetitive and boring. Now the pregnant(?) anthropomorphic egg... that I can get behind.

Gov. Hochul urges NYC employers to bring workers back to the office https://abc7ny.com/kathy-hochul-manhattan-officer-workers-survey-partnership-of-new-york/11221574/ If people miss the good ol' days of traveling long commutes, delaying chores/errands for evenings and weekends, dealing with annoying coworkers and management in person, attending meetings in which you can't double-task, spending small fortunes on clothes and accessories, increasing potential exposures to COVID variants, etc, then let them go back on their own volition. But for the governor to overtly urge employers to compel their employees to be re-burdened with all that nonsense is very tone deaf. "They're missing the vitality, the energy and the innovation that is spurred by the connections of human beings" What a bunch of horsesh*t. We can't go backwards. Might as well invest in horse buggies and coal mines.
  22. Damn, now there are a few names I haven't heard in a while. Damon Wells and his family just couldn't get a break; a terrible situation that the community made worse on every level.

Work remote after COVID? Nearly 50% of US workers would take a pay cut for it, survey says. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2021/11/11/workplace-survey-remote-pay-cut-covid/6367601001/ Count me in one one of those nearly 50%. I'm not sure exactly how much a paycut would be doable. I can't imagine anything over 15 percent would be acceptable, but I would consider it. Going back in person three days a week has been USELESS. There are no in-person meetings, no perks/free food/happy hours, our rolling hybrid means it's pretty dead in general, everyone's in a mask, and, frankly, no one is happy about being there. Hurray for commutes and validating our expensive commercial real estate, Mr. CEO. I've expanded my job hunt to hybrid in addition to full remote, but the goal is still the latter.
  24. I wonder why there isn't. There aren't that many airlines when you think about it; certainly it wouldn't be that difficult to collaborate and ban these animals.
  25. One of the few issues that probably unite the right and left is how miserable flying is, and some human-animals such as the latest miscreant make unpleasant situations horrific. https://www.yahoo.com/news/woman-punches-her-son-steals-002852646.html Woman punches her son and steals passenger’s cookies on flight from Texas, FAA says How on earth haven't we imposed permanent bans on these lunatics? Sure there are legal limits to criminal culpability and fines (frankly, we can lock them up and throw away the key for all I care), but certainly airlines have the discretion for permanent or multi-year bans. What's the hold up?
