Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I think you missed the main elephant in the room there.

Cleveland: Cleveland Clinic News & Info
So was the NFL until 2015. That term, the whole fundamental nature and idea of nonprofits, really needs mass revision.

Suburban Cleveland: Development and News
Gates Mills Towers has become... troubled? Damn, my sister, her husband and their first kid lived there; it was a wonderful place to live and visit. That really is sad, if true.

Cleveland: Cleveland Clinic News & Info
I don't think that's out of line. Medicine in the US is a business, and expenses (fixed and anticipated) are highly relevant to daily and future administrative operations.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
Cynical me is remembering back in '08 when the Health Corridor opened for business... on the same day PNC bought National City, and I remember thinking, boy, all this fanfare for a beautified road? Forget this nonsense, we've got real problems now. Cleveland booster me still isn't quite seeing the realistic value of this project, despite the usual buzz words along with this gem: "[it will]...strengthen regional cohesion, support economic development and enhance the quality of life.." From a three-mile road? sh*t, I think Cleveland booster me IS Cynical me with this project.

Damn that's a beautiful sight. Jobs, jobs, jobs.

What are you watching?
If you can watch Kong v Godzilla without fast forwarding virtually every single human scene, I admire you. The human characters in these kinds of films are usually bad archetypes, but they went all out on sh*t characters, writing and acting in this HORRIBLE MOVIE.

I entertained myself with multiple Berenstein/Berenstain moments on Momoa's facial hair. It seemed to change in every scene, including one time when he was fairly clean shaven. Or was he all along and I entered the abyss.

Dune was fairly watchable though it had the same issues with the Lynch film: constant mumbling, with hard-to-hear and understand dialogue at times. Maybe that kind of narration works better in books, not so much on HBO Max. The movie needed more Brolin and Momoa, fewer Zendaya visions. One thing is for sure: Lucas (or whoever actually wrote Star Wars) stole a ton of sh*t from the books. Also, and I don't know if it's just me, but there was some chemistry between the son and mother; for example the scene where they disrobe back-to-back. Who knows...

I've heard it's between 6-7,000 people there. About 6500 people.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
I'm not entirely sure what Bedrock's masterplan is - a "destination marketplace" is awfully vague, and we all know the Riverview extension is at best years away, but I don't think Tower City is hopeless. There are still 350,000 non downtown-residents, a 100,000+ daytime workforce, and maybe 15 million annual "tourists"/visitors (including but not limited to suburbanites) looking to kill time and spend money. There have been a million good ideas on this forum - outlet stores, variety of businesses and art galleries, farmers markets, exhibits, additional residences or hotel expansion like the Arcade, surplus of visible security, amusement park rides, co-working spaces, tech incubators - that have been repeated for years. My two cents - the mall needs a true anchor above all. Forget the small businesses at the moment; without that whale, the mall will continue to ebb and flow small businesses regardless of pretty presentations and repeated press releases.

I just rewatched White Knights. My god are Hines and Baryshnikov uniquely talented. Prove me wrong!

Doom Patrol hasn't really done it for me, but I'm finishing up season 3 now. When it's weird, it's good. When it's dramatic, it's good. But too little of both happen, and the show feels lifeless often. More Danny and Mr. Negative, fewer flashbacks and whining. What else... Succession episode 1 season 3 was incredible. I think I laughed at literally every word Greg said. And I've been rewatching Home Movies. 20 years later and I'm still cracking up:

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
Just to play devil's advocate and be a minor contrarian, it doesn't seem like there are noticeable ancillary neighborhood benefits to the Clinic's decades of projects. Even ignoring criticizing their legal tax avoidances, we don't really see an organic rise of retail, businesses, or housing nearby, with a few luxury rental exceptions. I'm not saying the Clinic has any ethical obligation to fund local start ups or subsidize working or middle class residentials. It's just that I never get that excited with these particular announcements. 50 years of expansions and Fairfax, Hough and Central are still pretty disinvested and rough no matter how many photos of local leaders and little kids posing with shovels. Just being a little scrooge here. Obviously these projects benefit the region with construction jobs, modernized buildings, and an expanding workforce. I just wish it had more visible local impact.

NFL: General News & Discussion
Pretty sure Dallas' adoration of Ezekiel Elliott proves your point. F that guy. Hell, Browns still kiss Jim Brown's ass every chance they get. Embarrassing.

Ah Village Square, DeGaetano's, Corky's and Malley's could use the help.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
One of the very few good things to come out of Frank's reign is, to my understanding, he was pretty fiscally responsible with the budget. It's good to have a rainy day fund, and the city didn't need to incur any debt to fund projects last year, which is pretty impressive all things considered. There are enough albatrosses - Medical Mart (or whatever the f it's called), Flats train, Browns stadium - that we (the city/county) are still wasting money on. It's better to be smarter about the next big investment, and Frank's unwillingness to pull the trigger is probably for the best.

What are you watching?
Doom Patrol has been a lot of fun, and it's always great seeing/hearing Brendan Frasier get work, especially since he had been blackballed for years. This show must have some budget though. Sure there are a few unintentional janky special effects - cough, the knife by Robotman's throat was pretty bad - but the show looks great as a mini movie production each episode. And for Robotman to be in so many scenes in what I assume is a suit with limited CG enhancements. That has got to be a pain for the actor/stuntman. Entertaining show. Beats the hell out of the CW (oh poor Flash, where and when did you go so wrong).

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
And to this day it's unclear the realistic benefits of this investment. Generations of publicly financed highways, freeways, junctions, exits, ramps, (deffered) maintenance, road widening, road painting, extensions, etc, have always arrived with promises of (opportunities of) economic development... and it's all sh*t. Platitudes of "new jobs" and "new identity" for this little freeway extension is insulting. I try to be a booster on city projects, but Jesus this one is just too hard to choke down. Apologies for the cynicism.

I was thinking of giving up Midnight Mass.... and then came the ending of episode 5. And I'm sucked right back in.

NFL: General News & Discussion
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/09/29/bears-announce-purchase-of-property-in-arlington-heights/ Bears announce purchase of property in Arlington Heights Let them leave Lori. No counter-offer for another money losing, tax-paid/incentivized, barely utilized, lakefront stadium. The bullsh*t ancillary service-industry benefits of these publicly financed albatrosses just don't exist to any noticeable level. No more subsidizing millionaires and billionaires for god's sake. Let the suburbs burn through cash this time.

What are you watching?
It's not like Succession where you can watch 5 episodes in a row without blinking, but overall I'm glad to have stuck with it. Also, I think I'll rewatch Cowboy Bebop. The casting of the movie is... questionable, but I've got a hunch the live action will be like Preacher and the Boys: a quality show with noticeable deviation from the source material.

What are you watching?
Boardwalk Empire has been a little slow at times, but ultimately a good series. Finishing up season 4 now. Guilt was fantastic but unfortunately only lasted 4 episodes. It's well worth a look. The Bookdocks has been a joy to rewatch despite season 4's noticeable drop in quality due to McBruder's lack of involvement. When is the reboot coming out? Is it even? Let's see... Doom Patrol is next on the list after I finish Boardwalk. And finally, I rewatched Matrix (mostly holds up), suffered through the sequel, and fast forwarded the third turd. My heart will break if Animatrix doesn't hold up. Just can't get excited about the new movie.

I started hybrid this week (home Wednesdays and Thursdays). It's frustrating but what can you do besides look for work elsewhere.
