Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
So the second method was what I should have done, since there were no turnstiles or fair readers. And since I didn't activate them and just bought the cards, theoretically I could have been fined? I've never heard of such a process.

What does it mean to activate them? If the machine gave that instruction, I must have missed it. I'm used to taking green or blue to Tower City and vice versa, in which they have the turnstiles. Also, the Tower City clerk had no idea where the 67 shuttle drop off/pick up were. That was a fun 6am search when I had initially arrived.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Is the red line free now? I took it 3 times last week (Little Italy to Hopkins, then vice versa when my flight was cancelled; then Little Italy to Hopkins the next day), bought 2 single ride passes at LI, and there was no indication of how or where the cards would/should have been collected or scanned.

Succession is probably the best thing out currently. I need season three NOW. Or a Tom and Greg web series in the interim. White Lotus is very watchable too. Some unexpected visuals you don't see ordinarily, but still well done.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
https://www.cleveland.com/news/2021/09/no-rapid-to-browns-stadium-rta-suspends-waterfront-line-service-indefinitely.html No Rapid to Browns stadium; RTA suspends Waterfront Line service indefinitely So, as I had asked in June (somewhat rhetorically), what happens to the East 9th station that connects to the Amtrak lines. Meaning, how the F do people get from the Amtrak to ground level other than climbing the goddamn hill next to the station. The station was locked from the inside AGAIN Friday morning, which means the options of getting to Tower City were (1) walking up the hill (which be fun in bad weather) or (2) walking on the freeway until you get to W3. Please tell me I'm missing something incredibly obvious.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
Nothing wrong with supporting or opposing a candidate, but your reaction is very visceral, and you don't seem to be criticizing the other candidates with anywhere the same vitriol. Reed is a legitimately awful person. Kucinich is a complete joke and political failure. Jones openly hates women. Williams and Kelley do have that career politician shadow, but I don't have issues with either ultimately. Have you had personal experiences with the guy?

East Cleveland: News & Discussion
East Cleveland's enormous challenges do not simply stop at its borders. The sh*ttier it gets, the more Glenville, Collinwood, Euclid, Richmond Heights and Cleveland Heights are infected by blight, crime, disinvestments, tax base flight, etc. A restructuring, aka dissolution, of its government and increased funding for fire, police, utilities, some road repair, etc, can only help the region.

Lord, they've got nothing better to do than be aggrieved.

Cleveland: I-X Center
Has IX center historically poached events from downtown? I can't imagine the old convention center ever had monster truck shows or indoor amusement parks.

What are you watching?
I just watched the Watchmen series in two days. For the most part it was great, especially the Hooded Justice episode. Regina King was fantastic, the Dr. Manhattan twist clever, Jeremy Irons' arc was insane but fun, and I love the Looking Glass mask. ' The ending was a bit meh... they probably should have gone the Doomsday Clock route rather than Inception. Still, a well done series that was very satisfying.

Whatcha Reading?
I'm on the most recent Decker book by David Baldacci. It's an easy-reading, popcorn series about a former Cleveland Brown (for one play), then cop, then homeless, and now FBI agent who has perfect memory. I just can't get into the Puller series as much. Baldacci doesn't exactly shift his writing style, which I like in Decker, but the character Puller and his ensemble are just not that interesting. This one feels like a lesser version of Reacher. I also vaguely remember reading a few of Baldacci's Camel Club books too. At least the first. I don't think I liked them to be frank, but they're worth another shot.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
I don't think the candidates avoided in protest of the term "gun violence". They probably just didn't care enough to attend. Also, of all the candidates, Reed is abundantly the biggest liability to the city due to his constant criminal behavior. I've got no patience for scum like him, and I don't see why the city/voters keep giving this fool a pass. He's dangerous, selfish, a legitimate bad person. The candidates all basically have the same leftish platform and the same challenges. And realistically, neighborhoods will not be any safer and businesses will likely not expand or move downtown because Kelly, Williams, or the guy who hates women are mayor. I can't forsee any of them talking to a Google or, hell, sole practitioner. They're mostly career politicians and just want that public check. However, a mayor is also an ambassador to the city. He/she represents optimism, enthusiasm, awareness -- and frankly optics are important. It helps a young, good looking black man with a JD/MBA and financial background wants to be mayor. It's refreshing. It also gives people flashbacks to Obama's rise after Ryan got caught going to the French f-k clubs. Optics excite and motivate people to vote, to stay, and even to invest. This guy can talk to biotech and crypto firms whereas I seriously doubt the others will have that ability. And Bibb actually showed up when no one else did. That's 90 percent of the battle right there.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
At least he showed up. And listened. That's a hell of a lot more than you can say for Dennis, Reed, and the other duds running.
-
Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
Obvious shades of "Is Obama a citizen"? "Why won't he show his birth certificate?" And so forth and so on here. And Justin Bibb RECEIVED a JD/MBA from Case which means that he EARNED them. As for whether or not he passed a state bar or practiced law, he doesn't appear licensed in Ohio -- which means he's like hundreds of thousands of other attorneys who utilize their JD's outside of law. And as for financial disclosure omissions, it's disappointing but I wouldn't consider discrediting.

How come I've never seen Silicon Valley before? This show is fantastic. Good seeing Gabe as a nice guy too. It reminds me of Party Down just a little.

Cleveland Mayoral Race 2021
White has about as much credibility as Nate Gray and Jimmy Dimora. He might be remembered fondly since Cleveland was considered the Comeback City during his reign, but he was as much a criminal as those other scumbags.

Dear God was Tenet awful. Boring, unwatchable, unlikable characters, actors mumbling with poor/no ADR, exceptionally confusing. Even the score was crap. Maybe there's a decent movie somewhere with a better edit, but this was a MESS. I couldn't make it past 90 minutes.

What are you watching?
This is a soft reboot, in which it is technically a sequel to the original but basically starts over. There are only about 4 or 5 returning characters. Stylistically, I'd say this is more a sequel to the Birds of Prey movie, which I didn't hate but got bored halfway through. The first Suicide Squad was an enormous success, though a critical flop. If the studio ever releases an Ayers cut, well, it certainly can't be much worse. The introductions are done in the first 10 or 15 minutes. It really sucks that the film is a bomb. I can't oversell how enjoyable the movie is, especially if you like Troma films.

What are you watching?
I love the original and am looking forward to this... but it does feel like most audiences will avoid. They certainly did for the last Blade Runner, and that was pre-covid and concurrent streaming. That 170 million budget plus marketing costs are going to be a problem.
-
What are you watching?
The Suicide Squad was incredible, and it really is disappointing how poorly it's performing in the box office, concurrent streaming release notwithstanding. The movie deserves so much more. Dune is doomed.

Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
I believe the ROI is about $0 minus $285 million dollars. Quite the deal.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Staffing is definitely a huge issue everywhere, and the issue isn't going away. Anecdotally I've heard restaurants are often exaggerating the alleged $15/hr baseline (without guaranteed hours, it's not much an incentive), and existing staff are so swamped they aren't getting pre-Covid tips due to, understandably, delayed table service.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
What's to address? The city, country really, has long ago decided this behavior is acceptable, and refuses to entertain any policies that could make a true difference. It sucks, but that's the choice our leaders and communities have made.

Whatcha Reading?
I've really been into the Decker series by Baldacci. They are perfect read-for-an-hour-in-the-gym-hot-tub books, which is actually what I've been doing.
