Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Ah, the ol' highway parking lot excuse. Eureka, that must be it. It certainly isn't a combination of dramatic demographic changes, lack of visible mall security, and emboldened/enabled generational criminal behavior. Nope, I-271 has done it again.

The director's real life breakdown is pretty apparent in that last episode. Plus the show ran out of budget, I believe. Try Trigun, Escaflowne, Helsing, Attack on Titan, Outlaw Star, Berzerk, and of course Cowboy BeBop. Those are all pretty consistent. The parallel anime movies are damn good too.

US Economy: News & Discussion
Well here's some suggested lunacy: Deutsche Bank Research: Tax home workers 'to help those who cannot' - BBC News https://www.bbc.com/news/business-54876526 That would be as foolish as the government paying remote workers for lessening pollution by avoiding commute travel.

Penny Dreadful - what an abrupt ending. They spend all this time world and character building, and for what? A pretty boring and anti-climatic final fight scene too.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
"Ohio gets featured a lot in political coverage as a traditional bellwether state, and it seems to be a good microcosm for the current plagues of the US: The coronavirus is raging, the opioid crisis has cut deep, racism is rampant, and many industries have disappeared overseas, all of which paints a pretty bleak picture of the state from the outside." Jesus what an opener. I'm surprised they didn't mention Anthony Sowell, Tamir Rice, and the river catching on fire in the same breath.

Sigh... and I really wanted to like Haunting of Bly House. Good performances aren't enough sometimes. It just wasn't that interesting and certainly not scary.

I tried giving Away a chance and couldn't get past episode 2. Maybe it picks up, maybe I wasn't in the right mood, but it was booooooooring. Meanwhile Bates Motel season 1 is a hell of a ride. Sort of a modern re-imagination of David Russell's "Spanking the Monkey" but with more murder.

I was up until 2 in the morning watching all of season 1 of Cobra Kai. I've got to split up season 2 this weekend; I'm too old to be marathoning shows like that. It's so good. Cartoonish. A parallel reality. So much craziness about a little karate studio in the Valley. And with all that, there's still an interesting storyline about fathers. The kid with the mohawk steals the show. He's probably the best actor on the show, or maybe just has the best character arc, despite being a side character. And I just finished season two. Holy sh*t is this show amazing. Stingray is one of the funniest characters on tv, and the episode 10 fight was fantastic. Season three in January!!

MLB: General News & Discussion
Between a potential Chicago series, the Indians having the best pitching in baseball, Beiber and Bauer as CyYoung front runners, and that the season actually finishing - it's been a pleasant surprise.

Cleveland: Hough: Development and News
Of course I'm not suggesting anyone be excluded but rather, realistically, a diverse neighborhood should be the focus. For any neighborhood that's suffered tremendous disinvestment, infrastructure neglect, crime, population loss, etc. We need to get away from segregated neighborhoods.

Cleveland: Hough: Development and News
Neighborhoods need a variety of new occupants to reboot, and the black middle class relocating to Hough is on par with those with Hungarian descent moving back to Buckeye. Just as Jews aren't moving back to Glenville or Polish to Fleet, black middle has little reason for Hough when they can afford a better life for them and their families. I think you need to look at other groups to fill current neighborhood voids. Immigrants, Asians, LGBT, Hispanic, etc, "urban pioneers", artists, college students, Cleveland boosters - that's the variety neighborhoods require for success. Black middle can't do it alone. And for god sake's the east side needs a good cigar lounge. But I digress.

Cleveland: Historic Photos
I would say the anti-bus crowd is not the same as the anti-street car crowd (if such a thing exists).
-
Cleveland: Hough: Development and News
Probably to make the area appear safer for those with disposable income. Hough needs some economic and racial diversity in a big way, and that means new residents and businesses.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
"highest and best use”... they forgot to write "any". At this point I just say rezone the bastard and turn it into a shelter. It's over.

Suburban Cleveland: Development and News
I feel the Whole Foods example is different since they, to my understanding, did not intend on staying in Village Square permanently. I do miss that Starbucks. The newish one by Eaton is so intentionally and obviously uncomfortable.

Orange Village: Pinecrest
My sister is a big fan of the Whole Foods there. ...I do miss the one by Corky's.

Best to take a step back and avoid market news. This is just a sell off; tech is still up an enormous amount from Jan 1.

I've been marathoning all of the Dankmus videos on youtube. Very funny and reminiscent of autotune the news.

Lucifer is a pretty watchable show. Very light, basically Castle 2.0. I will say, "Off the Record" in season 3 was exceptional, the ending in particular.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I don't know if permanent remote is a mistake - the lack of a commute is completely life-changing, and internal networking is what you make of it, whether by WebEx or near a water cooler - but I don't think there will be a true nationwide shift to remote if things normalize at the end of the year/early next year.

Cleveland: Historic Photos
There's something so cool about port photos in general. Nature meets industry. Love it.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Bums/pandhandlers/banger-types gravitate to bodegas since those are basically the only businesses in town, and there is constant foot traffic whom they can harass/menace. It's not the fault of the store owner that the neighborhood and occupants are so adversarial.

Housing Market & Trends
Some perks are deflation protection, intangibles like ownership pride/peace of mind, protection against market fluctuations, and increased monthly cash flow.

Cleveland: Downtown: Gateway District: Development and News
Yeah, my sisters sure had a lot of fun in the 80s and 90s. The Flats was something else and with a fantastic, organic national reputation.
