J.J. McCarthy would be a miracle, but even 1st or 2nd draft picks would be an achievement.

ESPN radio hypothesized J.J. McCarthy. Potentially solves some problems with both teams, especially if the Vikings re-sign Darnold. And Mary is an idiot.
  3. I don't know much about sports betting or traditional gambling, but it's such a seedy and sad industry. I went to a casino last weekend and saw a bunch of tired, seemingly lowish income, and generally old people playing slots, cards, and watching games. There's only one Vegas; the rest is just degrees of s**t. I don't think Ohio, or most regions frankly, can count on sports gambling, really gambling in general, as being some constant revenue incubator long term. And would State be responible for paying for stadium boondoggles with other funds if the tax moneys fell beneath projections? Also, doubling taxes isn't exactly encouraging for an increasingly bloated and desperate market. You're better off with a bookie or offshore apps at some point.
  4. And Cincinnati probably gets dibs on initial funds. Whatever scraps Jimmy would get are negligible. But at least DeWine can tell his voters and MAGA daddies he tried. And/or it's part of Jimmy's "I tried and now we have to leave" 2025 gaslighting campaign, starting this Fall.

Hey Justin Tucker, Jimmy and Dee are on line two.

No going back with that statement. Maybe Browns will get a first and second?

Oh I think we know that answer.
  8. "This project could infuse more than $3 billion into our regional economy." HAH!
  9. I didn't know that. It does seem like hospitals and provider care in the suburbs aren't particularly served well by RTA, and the University Circle branches have more garages than actual medical centers. But hey, you learn something new every day
  10. Really? I'd assume the opposite.
  11. His comments seem fairly benign, non-committal.
  12. Those are good points, and I can see how uncertainty and instability would generally favor the incumbent city. But there are so many moving parts. It's basically February 2025. Jimmy still wants a dome in his lifetime and control of adjacent property. Neither happens downtown. Both he and the city/county are in cross litgations that could take years for resolution. I'd love to see what the Jones Day bill is already. Early five figures? Mid? Browns stadium currently needs tens of millions of dollars in deferred repairs/maintenance, a waste of money for only 24ish home games and a few pre-seasons before the lease expires in early 2028. A new stadium takes three years to build. Highway/utiliies improvements are an enormous and costly process that haven't even been addressed. Could a new stadium in Brookpark even be permitted without those expansions? I feel that process takes years from concept to ribbon cutting. If these issues are unresolved in 2028, the team will have to play somewhere. I highly doubt the parties work out some year-to-year lameduck arrangement. Didn't work with the A's, won't here. What's done needs to be done. Plus, San Antonio, Toronto or London have access to funds and incentives beyond NEO's economic realities. I don't see how this ends well for Cleveland Browns fans.
  13. Sounds like an interstate relocation is inevitable instead. Local can't fund a $461 million renovation in these conditions.
  14. Sigh... Bills, Lions, ya killed me. Tampa was always a long shot, but Cleveland would have supported the hell out of them.

They should detail what they would actually do in case ICE stormtroopers show up to harass or kidnap Hispanic kids. Is there local coordination with PD? With parents? Would the school consider funding armed security? Are there evacuations planned?
  16. It's a stretch to call the Health Line a disaster, but the idea that BRT is anything more than a bus is laughable. In Cleveland it's just a slightly polished number 6 with some dedicated lanes. To be fair, BRT is generally underwhelming in the US, at least in Chicago, Pittsburgh and Cleveland (from my own experiences). Anecdotally, I hear Houston and Atlanta are garbage too, while Indianapolis is serviceable. BRT is just a marketing term even when it has signal priorities, people can enter through the middle door, etc. Might as well call them AI empowered vehicles.
  17. A region, in which suburb fiefdoms are not constantly battling each other for jobs, population, and funding, is in a far better position to compete with other markets. Otherwise, as we've seen, it's just a race to the bottom, as suburbs poach from and cannibalize their neighbors while the region stagnates and suffers. Who knows if Moan would have stayed if there was less/no fragmentation. But the region would have certainly been a much stronger financial position to keep them. Every dollar spent in utilities and roads for yet ANOTHER locally poached business and population is a dollar that could have gone to an incentive package.
  18. I wasn't able to attend - damn - but can attest the crime problem and/or perception remains an enormous obstacle. Both my parents (mid 80s) and local friend (early 40s) all made comments about it when I mentioned attending, and they're as liberal and pro-Cleveland as it gets. To be fair I get it too. Parking behind the theater when it's dark isn't the most welcoming experience, and all the outdoor events and short/long term tenants in the world won't matter with its lack of lighting and visible security patrols. Cameras mean nothing when someone is being harassed or worse while opening their car door.
  19. They may care, but the Cedar/Green store is maybe 75% self-checkout now. It's pretty disheartening to see, and not helpful for employee job security. Miles Market, on the other hand, seems to have virtually no self-checkout (maybe at the last aisle?) Then again they have a ton of threatening messages against their employees for the customers to read. Go figure that business model out.
  20. Ooo, looks interesting. I'll be there (weather permitting).
  21. Jury is still out on Cleveland Cliffs. That maniac might be trying to extort local subsidies to stay and using that unhinged performance as leverage.

-8 degrees in -19 windchill in Beachwood. At least it's sunny.
  23. It's all connected to Jimmy's hail mary contract with the serial rapist. If things had worked out and the Browns a legitimate contender with a franchise quarterback, they'd be starting construction in Brookpark later this year with billions in gifts from the city, five counties and state. Especially if we had a Bowl appearance by the rapist's third year. Jimmy swung big, missed bigger, and now it's an impossible mess.
  24. Jimmy wants a dome in his lifetime. And not when he's declining but while there are some good years still. At BEST he's getting one, somewhere, when he's 73, and the clock keeps ticking. I don't see how it happens by the lakefront unless there are some major behind-the-scenes discussions. And we all know that most likely isn't happening.
  25. You sure about the visiting jocks tax? I thought the courts ruled it unconstitutional in '15.
